i was hoping someone would be able to help me? i am unable to find my grandfathers birth certificate.
his name is Thomas Boden and he lived in Longton staffordshire.
he was born 23/12/1923 which is also stated on his death certificate (District Code 7371E Registration Number E61F Entry Number 257) and married elizabeth brayford in july 1947. he was in the marines and was sent to prison near poole during the war for going AWOL.
i was wondering if i wouldnt find his certificate as he was registered after the new year (making that 1924) but i can't see the records in depth to check the date.
i also sent off for his certificate from a BMD website and they said they wouldn't find him!!
any help you could give me would be great thank you.

.thanks for all your help, yes i have seen those other two thomas' in sedgefield and newcastle, but without knowing that he was born there i can;t tell if they are the right ones!! i have tried to send off for his certificate again, but put "year of registration" as 1924 they year after the was born as he was born so late in the year (29/09/2007) so here's hoping its him.

If anyone else has any "boden"s in theres tree which might be useful for me, i would be very grateful. thank you again for all your help

Rebekah,

all you can see on the web are the birth registrations and they are shwon in quarters ........ so you will not be able to see in depth before you roder.

It is possible that he would have been registered in the following quarter, as you ahve 6 weeks to register a birth.

Marriage and death registrations are also only shown in quarters.

Hi Rebekah

There are 2 Thomas Boden records for the first quarter of 1924.

Mothers maiden name Robson, Newcastle T 10b 275

Mothers maiden name Williams,Sedgefield 10a 343

Could he have be registered under another name?

Sorry deleted my reply in error but I see that Linda has found the same two,

Can be viewed on Ancestry by finding 1924 qtr 1 for Annie Boden then clicking on next image

Do you know his mother's maiden name??

I ahve found a Thomas E Boden, but he was egistered in the March quarter 1922, registered at King's Norton. King's Norton does not appear to include Longton in its area.

Thomas E Boden, b. 1922 mmn was Wigley.

On the Complete Index for March quarter 1924 there are two:-

Thomas Boden mmn Williams registered Sedgefield

Thomas Boden mmn Robson registered Newcastle T.

Could his date of birth be wrong? The date on the death certificate is only as accurate as the person giving the information, it isn't checked against anything.
