A will written by the previous generation would be very handy, wouldn't it? National Archives do not list any, but that is not to say that there are none - perhaps there is a will proved in a lower court?

The proceedings of the Old Bailey have a theft from an Abiat Smetzer in 1808 (I picked this up via Google). His wife is Susannah, so he may have changed his name later to James? Alternatively, since your James would only be 21 in 1808, these may possibly be the parents?

What is the connection?


Are James and John related, and where does Charles fit in. Smetzer being a not very comon name, i would have thought so but can`t find any connection.

James SMETZER (abt1787) married Susanah Willats (abt 1787) in Middlesex. I have also found a John Smetzer (abt1785) born Middlesex.


James is my gg-grandfather and i have most of his decendants down to about 1900.

I would like to find out if John and James are related, who the parents were, and were there any siblings,

Out of all the Smetzer`s I have found in the censes, 1871, 1881, 1891, most of them are in my tree, except for John and his decendants. Charles H Smetzer and his decendants,

All smetzer`s I have found are in Middlesex, London, and Kent, but a can`t connect them all up.

Can any one help.
