Hi Can any-one help, My Grandfather was born in 1894 and was called Henry Charles Chapman, he died in 1984 aged 90yrs, we dont know anything about his Parents or siblings and this is the only part of our family tree we have not done. Any information would be grateful, Regards Eric

have you tried the 1901 census if you know the area he came from? As he would be only about 6 at the time, chances are he lived with his mum and dad and siblings.

His birth cert will give full details of his parents


If you could say where he was born, it would be helpful

Hello Eric,

I had a quick look on ancestry for you but the list of Henry Chapman's born about the time you are looking for is quite big.

Do you have any idea where he MAY have been born? That might narrow down the search a bit.

I found these birth entries on FreeBMD which might help:-

Have you looked for a birth on FreeBMD?

It may be you will have to look in 1893 for his birth as well.

What I would suggest is that you find his marriage certificate and find out the name of his father, which will be entered there. That will help enormously with finding him on the 1901 Census.

Do you know his date of marriage, area, and spouse name?
