Hi
I wonder if anyone can help with a bit of advice.
I have just obtained a marriage certificate for my grt grandparents, however other than this marriage i have for them, Lena Ratcliff (my grt grandmother) doesnt seem to exist!!
On the marriage certificate she is down as living at (from what i can make out) 5 Derby Rd.
I wonder if anyone can inform me whether the electoral roll existed in 1923 and if so whether they could look for a Lena Radcliff for me.
On the marriage cert she is listed as being 30yrs old, which would make her born abt 1893, unfortunately i dont know where she was born as i cannot find a birth for her, she was married in Watford, Hertfordshire.
Thanks in advance.
Ian

Have you looked under Selina/Selena.

There is this birth as a possible:-

Name: Dorothy Selina Radcliff
Year of Registration: 1891
Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
District: Chesterfield
County: Derbyshire
Volume: 7b
Page: 693

In 1923 I don't think she would be on an electoral roll (but not certain).

There is this birth too, with "e" on the surname:-

Name: Lena Radcliffe
Year of Registration: 1894
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
District: Preston
County: Lancashire
Volume: 8e
Page: 558

SORRY - just realised I spelt the surname with a "d" in the middle.

There is this birth:-

Name: Lena Ratcliff
Year of Registration: 1894
Quarter of Registration: Apr-May-Jun
District: Manchester (1837-1924)
County: Lancashire
Volume: 8d
Page: 235

Hi Kath
Thanks for your help, i havent tried differences in the christian name as you suggest because her name was Lena, which the marriage cert confirms also.

Also her surname was RaTcliff not RaDcliff, but i guess it is a possibility, i shall keep it in mind, thanks again

I've updated my last reply Ian, with a birth for a Lena Ratcliff. You used both spellings in your original post.

That one looks more possible, thank you, although i didnt think she was from Lancashire!! Thought she might be from round Herts way but then saying that her husband although born in Herts his family in 1901 were in Middlesex then by 1920's he was back in Herts again with Lena!!
Thanks

It was the only birth for that name that came up on FreeBMD, but of course there may be more on the full index. Does the marriage certificate give a father's name, as you could use that as a checking point if ordering any birth certificates.

Yes the marriage cert says her father was George Ratcliff, although i cannot find her on a 1901 census with these parents!! lol
Thanks
