Margaret Report 20 Sep 2007 20:04

Ellen (possibly Eleanor) was born in Ireland ca 1831 and, it is rumoured, eloped to Scotland/England with James Henry Byrne (b. ca 1826. They had 7 children - Letitia, Lucinda, Frances, Jennifer, Eleanor and Maria and one boy Henry (Harry). James joined the Army and some time after Harry's birth (1866) he was posted to Fort York, Toronto - the whole family joined him in Canada and as far as we know all settled there. It is believed that Ellen's mother was sister to a bishop (? Meath) who made her his adopted daughter after the death of her parents. Do any Craigs out there claim a connection with a 19th century Irish (Church of England) bishop ?
