It could be she wasn't born a Crossland but her mother married one later.

Jen,

They are 7 pounds. It lists age, father's name and occuption, witnesses. Mother isn't listed. If you're lucky, you might have relatives as witnesses.

Hi all and thanks for the replies.... I am thinking about getting a marriage certificate.... are they expensive? Is that the only way I can look at the information? I too saw the Crossland maiden name on the records on here. I didn't know that meant her mum wasn't married.... but yes, what else could it be. DOH!
What other details are on a marrieage cert? Do you get parents names of the bride and groom? or does it just refer to the couple?
Thanks again for all the time you have been kind enough to take looking for these things for me. Kind regards, Jen

Jennifer,

You might need to order the marriage cert to get her age.

He death record says she was Irene Anne born Nov 20th 1920. Hopefully the Nov. 20th part is correct.

I have looked on the Complete Index for all quarters 1919, 1920 and 1921, and there is no Irene Crossland at all.

I have to go, but I'll look back tomorrow to see if anyone else has been able to find anything.

I'm really fishing in the dark here.

I think it is going to need someone to look quarter by quarter year by year on the Complete Index on ancestry.

There is this Irene Crossland born in 1918 on freebmd, but born in Sheffield, and it looks as though her mother was not married.

Births Mar 1918 (84%)

Crossland Irene Crossland Sheffield 9c 1006

Hi Sylvia, Thanks for getting back to me.
I believe Irene was born in Hull. I am not 100% on that, but she married there and all of her children appear to have been born there. Sorry I don't know more. All the best, jen

I jsut looked on freebmd, which is a free site that is gradually listing all the births marriages and deaths since registrtion started in Septemebr 1837 (www.freebmd.org), and there are quite a lote of Irene Crosslands born between 1900 and 1925.

Have you any idea where she was born???

Jennifer,

first, the records on tisi site are not complete. In addiiton, you should NOT pay extra to use any of them (ie, over and above your subscription) as those records are often available elsewhere for free! OR you casn ask for help from those of us who are so very willing to help,

Second, the birth date listed on death records is very likely to be wrong ............... it depends on what the person reporting the death knows, and how truthful the dead person has been!

Thanks to Bernice, I am slowley piecing together the threads of my past... However I found my grandmother Irene Burt, nee Crossland died in Hailsham in 1969. On this record it states her birth year as 1920. I have looked on the records on this site and I can't find her anywhere. Am i doing something wrong? or is it possible that the birth date listed on the death records are not accurate.
Sorry to be a pain and keep asking stuff but I really am very new to this.
Thanks for looking, Kind regards, Jen
