Hello all. I'm trying to find out about my fathers family. Including my father. He died when i was only 6 in 1976 and not a lot of the family seems to know too much about him or his family etc..
I typed in his birth date in the bmd and it came up with his birth being in 1916. ??? Some of his paperwork (army papers ) say he was born in 1919.. Ive just looked at a marriage certificate i have for him and my mum and it says on there that he is 34.. ??? the marriage is in 1956 !!!! . Could the records actually be wrong? the bmd AND the marriage cert ? So far according to this ive got 3 possible ages for him lol.. Helpppp.. ;o) The one thing i do seem to have found is that he has a brother (previously unknown to me ) and a sister and ive found their birth dates. (approx) The birth date ive always been told is 19th October 1919 and his name is george william davies.. Any ideas ? xXx

The index for his death (aasuming it is the right one) does give Q4 1956 George William DAVIES Southend/S 9 2851 and a birth date of 19 Oct 1916.
This may be a transcription error or the informant may have kown exactly what day he was born but not his age in years. Who was the informant? What does it say on his death certificate?
He may have lied when he got married - especially if his wife was much younger.
You say you have his brother and sister - so what was their mothers maiden name?

Thankyou all.. He was born in birmingham. and as bryan said his birth date according to his death records are 1916.He died in southend.. My older sister and my mum and nan had said he was born in 1919. his army papers say 1919 too. According to his birth records he was born in 1919. His mothers name appears to have been Healey. (ellen) ... which is what sue found. ^^... His wife.. My mum was 21 when they married in 1956.. And i think ive found his brother .. samuel davies.. born birmingham 1916.. and his sister violet irene davies born birmingham 1921 (mmn healer on hers !) ...

He's in the birth index at the right time for the birthdate you have:-

George W. Davies, mother's maiden name Healey
Dec. qtr. 1919, Birmingham, 6d, 611.

I'm not sure what you mean about typing in his birthdate and coming up with 1916 - which site did you do this on?

There are three George W. Davies births registered in the December qtr. of 1916, but none of them in Birmingham, so I think you can be pretty sure that the 1919 birth is his - especially as the mother's maiden name is correct - whoever registered the death probably just got the year of birth wrong - I have loads of death certificates where the age is wrong for the deceased.

That clears that up then Kathleen. So they could have got the birth date wrong on his death certificate. For a while there i was thinking it could be a different man. Then i would be back at square one again. Thanks again to everyone for looking. xXx
