1881 Occupation Sub Med Serv?

Hi Pam,
Been checking looks like she was a nurse of some sort.....but still don't know what the sub....refers to.
The Med serv..... medical servant

l just did a reply to your answer and it vanished after l posted it!!
l just noticed on my rellie's census it has herbalist then on brackets sub med serv
He was male and living in Stockport then under Cheshire at the time of the census
lt has to be some sort of medical job l agree curiosity got the better of me as it does

I would imagine that the enumerator had to go through the cesus returns, putting the different occupations into different categories (or sub-divisions), so anyone with a medical occupation, like "herbalist" or "dispenser of medicine" which also has the same written on top of it, would be put into the Sub-division of Medical Servant or Medical Service, and this is what it will mean.
