Steph you are a star! How come I couldn't find it on Ancestry? Thank you so much (and all you other good people).

The age certainly fits. Well done, Steph.

Thanks Reg, it looks as though I am going to have to dig a bit deeper....

He would have been in his 40's when WW1 started.........so it's unlikely that he was involved....though not impossible.

I gather that you haven't actually searched the full bmd records......which involves looking at the images quarter by quarter............correct me if I'm wrong, and say which images you have viewed..........

It's possible that he lived to see WW2.............

Thank you all for replying - his last child was born in Barking, Essex. I searched on Ancestry giving his name with various spellings and date of birth. If he died in the war where would I look for his death registration?

Can you say for which years you have looked at the images..........no point in anyone duplicating the search

What year was his father and son's death ? What region was he living in when last child was born. Sue

How far onwards have you looked?

Could he have died during the war? If so his death wouldn't be in ordinary registrations.

I have been looking for the death of James Leighton Kelsey born 20/9/1869 in Poplar but I cannot find his death. I have tried various spellings of the surname with no luck. His father and his son - both James Leighton Kelsey - have been straightforward but he is proving illusive. He fathered his last child in 1914 so his death would be sometime after this. Any reason why he cannot be found? Thank you kind people.
