Hi Heidi, Any help would be greatly appreciated... I don't think the way of living has changed much throughout, they just did an extremely good job of hiding things.. Great though.. The gossip in those days must have been ripe..... How would I search my Grandfather Albert Ebenezer George, I know he died in a mental instituition between 1949-1953... I know he was not married to my Grandmother etc... But i do recall her telling me years ago that they used to use belts that all the patients had to wear i.e red (very ill) and the different colours to show if they was dangerous... The bizarre thing about my mum was when i spoke to my father my mum was definately "Bronwen George" when they got married.. My nan was not the kind of person who would take time to change their names (deed poll) etc... Mel

Hi Heidi

Thanks so much for your help and the above is possible.. I hope it is correct, problem I have my mother was born in 1948 and registered Bronwen M McCarthy "Jones" Vaynor District. But my mother's maiden name was "George". Unknown to whether they "Deed Polled" her name to george but the funny thing is I have found a Bronwen George born in 1922 with the mothers maiden name "Jones".. The bizarre thing is apparently my mother's father was married to someone else!!! But had 3 girls with my Grandmother.. He died in a Mental Hospital approx 1950-52. Amazing what you can find out about your family..... Regards Melanie
