Cannot find Marriage Certificate.

Thank you for your input.
We had thoughts along those lines and I suspect you are right.
Because we remember her as a really good lady, perhaps we were ignoring the reality.

when you can't find a marriage certificate and you know there was a previous marriage, it's quite possible there was no second marriage as first wife still alive. No easy divorce in those days.

My grandmother Emily Mary Ann Russell/ Nee Cripps married William Charles Russell, but no certificate appears anywhere as far as I know. She was born in 1885 and William was born in 1875.
We have a marriage certificate that he married in 1895 to Eliza Fossett, no further info on her. The death certificate for 1901 re Eliza is not her?

Any help?
