My Great Grandmother died after i was born. All i know is that she was blind and lived in a small place named Llithfaen in North Wales. She had my grandmother Gwyneth Jones and i believe her sister Mary. My grandmother is buried just outside of a place called tremadog in North Wales. I know she died after 1971 but i cannot find anything in either margaret jones or margaret lloyd. I have got my grandmothers marriage certificate and no father is named. On her birth details it says mothers maiden name as jones.

Any help, tips or ideas will be gratefully appreciated.

Hi Gwyneth -- can you flesh out the details a bit?

Your grandmother was Gwyneth Jones, born -- when? where? When and where did your grandmother marry? (Does her marriage certificate state her age?)

Your great-grandmother was -- Margaret Jones? Any idea how old she was when she died, or when she was born? Any chance, that is, that she would have been in the 1901 census? Possible, if she had a great-granddaughter born 1971, if she and the next two generations weren't too young when they had children!

Where does the name Lloyd come in? Did your gr-grmother Margaret Jones eventually marry a Lloyd? If so, do you know his first name? So far, the FreeBMD transcriptions up to 1918 show two Margaret Jones-s marrying a Lloyd in Caernarvonshire:

Name: Margaret Jones + Hugh Lloyd
Year of Registration: 1918
Quarter of Registration: Jul-Aug-Sep
Spouse's Surname: Lloyd
District: Llanrwst
County: Caernarvonshire, Denbighshire
Volume: 11b
Page: 538

Name: Margaret J Jones + David Lloyd
Year of Registration: 1912
Quarter of Registration: Oct-Nov-Dec
Spouse's Surname: Lloyd
District: Ffestiniog
County: Caernarvonshire, Merionethshire
Volume: 11b
Page: 709

If she did marry, and you wait for FreeBMD to advance (or scour the GRO images yourself for Margaret Jones-s who married Lloyds, and then check the images for the Lloyds to get the first name, assuming you know it ...), you should be able to get her father's name from that.

It is Gwyneth who had sister Mary, i.e. Mary's mother was Margaret? -- again, born when? where? Was Mary Lloyd or Jones? Do you know anything about her marriage?

The censuses have a few Jones-s born in Llithfaen and in Tremadog. If your Margaret came from one of those places, they could be hers.

If you know where she is buried, can you contact the church / administration of the cemetery to request info? i.e. date of death, and anything else they have. (Ordinarily, her DOB would be on her headstone.) Getting her correct DOB seems to be essential for finding anything else.

My grandmother gwyneth jones was born 1929 in pwhelli north wales. she married idwal adams 15 august 1945 adn died jan 1967. On my grandmothers marriage certificate there is no mention of her fathers details.

My great grandmother was margaret jones (at this moment i have no details as yet.) All i have at the moment is she is buried in a graveyard in a place outside tremadoc north wales.

I believe she married a william lloyd after my grandmother was born. She is buried with a william lloyd and named as margaret lloyd.
