When Posting a Request.....please

ProfilePosted byOptionsPost Date

When posting a request please only post on one board at a time.

There have been several today posted on more than one board and it only means that people are wasting time searching for things that have already been found for the same request on a different board.

I know there are a lot of new members and everyone has to learn, but there is nothing worse than spending half an hour looking for something, only to find that the answer was found ages ago on a different board.

Kathleen,

This problem is starting to annoy me.

Members who do lookups will look at both boards so will see a request for help so there is no need to duplicate a request.

You are right Maureen. There have been loads today.

I don't often get annoyed, but today I am a bit, as we could be doing other look-ups rather than repeat searches that have already been done.

Moan over, LOL

If I notice a duplication, I always add a note to the thread.........the trouble is that so many people get huffy about it.........they can't see a problem.

Needless to say, they are not the people whose time and effort are being wasted, as they are not the ones who do lookups................

Hi Reg,

I've added replies on the threads today saying they are duplicated and still people keep on adding to both threads.

Sometimes I think I'll give this site a miss..........but then I always think twice and log back on again, LOL.

What on earth would I do with my time without it????

Oh, I just have to add to this one. I'm so angry right now that steam is coming out of my ears!
I have just wasted a good deal of time duplicating what somebody else was doing on another board.
Surely people must realize that if they post on 2 boards, people are going to duplicate the research.
Aarghh! I'm mad!!!

Have you noticed that it's only those of us who do look-ups who are posting on this thread.

No one yet has come on and said..."Oh sorry, didn't realise, but I won't do it again".

That's o.k. Glyn,

At least you're brave enough to own up, and you now realise that it can be such a waste of other people's time.

I forgive you, LOL.

OK, I reluctantly forgive Glyn, too.
It takes a brave soul to admit wrongdoing.
Consider your wrist slapped, Glyn.

Hello friends, from someone who has just recently started contributing to the finding here -- I just love mucking about in other people's families. ;)

Take a look at Julie's thread "I give up" in Trying To Find:

http://www.genesreunited DOT co.uk/boards.asp?wci=thread&tk=949854

(I don't understand the convention for posting urls here -- can anyone explain the problem??)

I and at least a couple of others have attempted to contact GR about this problem, i.e. that nobody has a clue where to post what and what to post where (which then leads to the duplications you justly complain of).

Time for an email campaign, I think, calling for a reorg of these forums so that each one is very clearly identified as what it's for and how/what to post in it.
