I wouldn't take it for granted that because the brother-in-law is called Owen that this is Mary's maiden name.

At that time the term brother-in-law could also mean step-brother, so you would need to check. David Owen could be Mary's brother, OR he could be Thomas's step brother.

Just something to think about.

Thanks everyone - It seems the above is all correct !!!

I thought it was just me strugling and i have a little welsh in me !!!

Ironically even the name of the farm my grandfather was born in turned out to be spelt incorretly on the OS maps!

I walked for 3and a half hours to it as it was so remote and then the OS map said it was something else ! I was mighty relieved to meet a 78 year old farmer on the way back who told me i was right and turned out he went to scholl with my dad and had never left the area !!!

If anyone can help further i would be grateful.

Thanks Again

I have to quit, just can't decide which one he is on the 1841 census. The fact that they round down the ages of everone over 15 to the nearest 5, the fact that they don't show relationships and then, those Welsh names!!

Could this be them in 1851?
Gotta admit, this Canadian is having a heck of a time with these Welsh names!

Spouse's Name: Mary
Gender: Male
Where born: Llanfachreth, Merionethshire, Wales

Mary Griffith 24 , wife

Since bro-in-law david Owen is single it must mean that Mary's maiden name was Owen.

My father Thomas Jones was born at Pen Nebo Bontddu in 1931

His parents were William Jones 1908-1961 and Rosina Griffith 1908 - 1936

Rosina died when my father was only 5 and William remarried. I have information on all Williams siblings as two of them are still alive age 90 + 101 and have helped me going back the Jones line.

However my father would like to know more of Rosina's side.

I have her Parents Thomas Griffith(s) b1859 a gold miner and Elizabeth Griffith(s)b1866 in the 1901 census at Pen Nebo Bontddu with her sibblings John, Ann, Dora, Ellis, and Richard.

Now i believe Thomas b1859 father was again THOMAS Griffith(s) b1814c and died sometime between 1871 & 1891 census. I think THOMAS b1814 married Mary b1827c (maiden name unknown) but from there on in and back i draw a blank as i m new and getting to grips with all this.

If you can fill in any blanks and take me further back i would be made up and so would my dad.

ps We found out Rosina is buried in Caerdeon cemetry near Bontddu

Thanks
