Hi Everyone

I thought I would pass on this bit of good news to anyone who hopes to visit The Scottish Records Office in Edinburgh. I was at the Fife Family History Fair last Saturday and there was a site for the Scotlandspeople website. Next March (or maybe April according to the lady on the stall) the new ScotlandsPeople Centre will be opening and they are reducing their price for a full day's search from £17 down to £10. They are also giving 2 hours FREE searching on a first come basis which is great! Unfortunately you cannot book the 2 hours just turn up and hope to get a place.

Hope this is of use to anyone searching for Scottiah rellies

Hey Diana

Thats great news! Means i'll be able to go a lot more often if its only going to be £10!

I'm hoping to attend the fair they are doing in Edinburgh at the beginning of next month. Did you learn anything new/interesting?

Hi Mhairi

It was the first time I had been to a Family History Fair and I had a great time. They had 6 talks which were really interesting. They were

Why Scotland went for the Union of the Parliaments
Scottish family history sources at NAS
Family History Sources at NA at Kew.
Iriish Family History Sources
How the Scots tongue has changed since the Union.
Popularising history in the Media (Nick Barratt from WDYTYA)

The talks were only 30 minutes long and were all very interesting. Unfortunately it didn't leave much time to look round the stalls. I also kept meeting people I knew (so I was chatting instead of looking at everything) as I live in Fife anyway!

When is the one in Edinburgh? I would love to go to that as my hubby is from Edinburgh and his family tree is a nightmare to research!! I need all the help I can get!

Hey Diana

I think its the site and not your computer! I keep getting error messages and getting cut off.

The one in Edinburgh is on the 6th of October,i think, and is being held at the Assembly rooms in George Street.

If you give me a minute i'll go and find the link.

lol just realised your over on SFT as well :)

The Edinburgh one isnt a family history fair as such, more of a libraries thing though they do have two talks on, one of which i'm sure you'll have heard

The link is

If i'd of known earlier that it wasnt a fair as such, i would have made an effort to get to the Fife one.

Glad you enjoyed yourself

Hi Mhairi

I thought it was just me! I keep writing a reply and then the website error page comes up.I thought i would just get the good news out to everyone hence why I was on SFT too.

Anyway thanks for the link. I shall have a look at it and decide whether to go or not. My hubby is out with his scouts that day so it would be nice to get a day in Edinburgh

See you on SFT- I'll try and let you know if I hear of any more FH Fairs near us ( I am presuming you live in the Edinburgh area )

Happy hunting
