Hi George I am a Hartwell and during my research of the Gloucestershire,Worcestershire and South Warwickshire area's many Hartwell names appeared in North Warwickshire and South Staffs.area's whose county boundaries link that will be why the marriage took place and probably the mix up because of boundaries, it is the same down here with four counties overlapping.Cheers Colin

Newcastle under Lyne is near Staffordshire and if she was born in Darlaston the reg district would have been Wolverhampton. I had this problem with my great grandfather who was born in Darlaston.E

Sarahs family are still in Newcastle in 1851 census.
It could be that the marriage record did not get transferred to central files. What you could try is to contact the register office at Newcastle direct and ask them to search their own records for the marriage.

I have been trying over the past thirty years to find the marriage of my great grand parents John Palmer and His wife sarah (Lee).
They appear in the 1851 Census John Palmer is 29, Sarah is 26, then James age 4, Thomas age 2, Bridget age 1.
Sarah was born in Newcastle upon Lyme Staffordshire so I looked in that direction but nothing, so I tried Warwickshire and nothing there, I suppose there could be a mistake in the recording For eg one of John and Sarahs Daughters Margaret, born 1856 she married a George Hartwell and they had a daughter Elizabeth Bridget he then was killed in an accident. Margret remarried an Albert Moore in 1891 but the records show that Albert Moore married Elizabeth Hartwell, yet in the 1901 Census Albert Moore is the Head with Margaret the wife and Elizabeth Hartwell the step daughter. I Emailed the Warickshire GRO and asked if they would check for me and they did, the result was that it was Margaret who married Albert Moore so I guess mistakes Happen.
I would be so greatful if somebody could point me in the right direction.

Regards

Geroge Palmer
