Looking for my husband's mother's family: Whatleys based in the Isle of Wight in the 1900's and before, particularly the Newport and Freshwater areas. Any help would be appreciated -I am especially short of info on a possible uncle, William Whatley, born in 1921 and a grandfather, William Whatley, possibly born around 1891 in Freshwater Now a Wiltshire link: Have got back to a George Whatley born 1852 in Chittern, Wiltshire who married Elizabeth Ansell from Calbourne, Isle of Wight. His family either go back to a Robert Whatley born c1750, married to a Betty, who lived in Imber,Wiltshire and whose son was William Whatley c1774 (on the 1851 census) or another 2 sources say they go back to a Stephan Whatley born in 1710 in North Bradley, trowbridge, wiltshire. he married Ann Smith, born 1746 in Trowbridge. Can anyone clarify the correct route? Has anyone got any links further back? Many thanks |
