trying to find family of my Grand-mother Florence May Young who was born in Newchurch, Lancashire in July 1895. Her father was Alfred Frederick Young c.1874 and Susannah Greenwood c1875. In the 1901 census Florence had a sister called Carrie about 1 year old. In 1918 Florence was working as a tram conductress and living in Whitford. She had an Uncle Daniel Young living at 74 Market St, Whitworth in 1914. Florence married an Australian soldier, James(Harry)Turner in Nov 1918, at Rochedale, Lancashire, and returned to Australia in 1920. The couple divorced after having five children, and Florence disappeared from the scene. Seeking family who may have photographs of Florence and her sibling/s. Her Dad was a boot and shoe-maker whose family originated from Chatteris in Cambridge, though he was born in Lancashire. Please contact Warren Turner at 15/194 Ewing Rd, Woodridge, Qld,Australia.

Hi Warren,
In case you are still searching records in Lancashire for your Aunt Florence, you may like to know that the town is spelt Rochdale (pronounced with an "o" as in ""on", unlike the Queensland Rochedale which is pronounced, as you know, slightly differently!
I'm searching for my Great Uncle Herbert Young who left the UK as a Salvation Army bandsman sometime in the early 1900s for a life in Australia but am finding it very difficult. It would have been so much easier if he's been a convict!
Best wishes,
Norma Roberts
