Evening All Good news from the Consultant this morning. I can now drive again :-D :-D. He was really pleased with how I am doing and said to try and use the crutch less and less.I still need it though for a bit of support and it also helps me feel a bit safer when out and about. I will be seen again in 4 months . I cna even have a bath again in a couple of weeks :-D :-D :-D. Chris will have to be on hand at first just to makes sure I can manage the getting in and out bit. He is probably dreading the thought of me getting stuck and having to haul me out !!!!.
Frank, How lucky were you that the chopping mat didn't melt in the oven. That would have been a right mess :-0.. What did Ros say ;-)
Ann,how many things are entering for the show? I am sure you will do really well again :-D Have youfinished the Bracelet today?
AnnG I forgot where you said you were going tomorrow for your Birthday. There are far too many posts to scroll back to find it now. I hope the weather will be ok. I haven't seen the forecast for tomorrow.
Is OH behaving today Vera :-D.No doing any more sneaky jobs while you were out?? If I say to Chris at all that I think he should leave doing something his reply is always "I am quite capable you know" :-|
Gill would it not be worth just buying a cheap electric screwdriver to save you poor arm if you still have so many more screws to put in? You could order one on Amazon and have it delivered the next day. If it is RSI that you have (which it sounds like) then it would make sense as you may get the same problem again with doing so many more screws by hand.
Pippyn, we haven't grown leeks this year but you should see the size of our Onions !!!! They are mahoosive . Lots of Garlic too but not the best crop we have ever had. That will be nice ot see you family at the weekend, How old is your Grandson? Do they have to travel far to come to you?
Well tomorrow is the day James has 'the meeting' at work regarding the redundancy. It could well be his last day at work :-(. It could be they say he has to go straightaway ,as I know this happens sometimes . I remember my BIL Larry having to collect all his bits and bobs up and putting them in a box and just having to go. So it could be difficult day tomorrow . Just have to wait and see. His car is ready for collection from the garage so Chris will take him in the morning to get it. I will then have my car back and have a practice run down to the village just to make sure I can move my op leg properly from the accelerator to the brake and do an emergency stop :-D It will be easy with no traffic on our road . It is still shut to traffic for several more weeks :-S Maybe I should drive down the lane to Fitz ,or do you think that would make him so jealous as he still has to wait :-D I don't want to be too cruel ;-) ;-)
Any more gigantic eggs Mel? The poor lady is probably still in recovery are delivering that whopper.Or maybe she is trying to make a second one :-D
Poldark has never been for me.It is a pity for those of you that have followed each series to be so disappointed in this one. I like Keeping Faith.

My OH is clearly like yours Mel as over the years he has accumulated a vast collection of tools!! We too have a compressor, a small generator (just in case!!) and an ancient welder, which actually belongs to our son! He is very like OH and likes nothing better than a 'challenge'!! whatever the problem! there aren't many jobs that they can't solve! Good luck with your bracelet hunt Frank! Your wife is a lucky woman!!

Oh likes the pork pie with the egg in the middle Frank. Easier than egg on toast too.
I caught a rabbit in the rabbit trap without even trying today. I had left it undone outside my shed and wondered what was in it. I was hoping it was'nt a hedgehog as it was about the same size but it was a small rabbit. Its now gone to the big warren in the sky.

Afternoon all,
Mel, your OH is just like HARVEY. I don't think a tool has been made that he hasn't got. lol lol. He's such a handy person to have as a son. Where as Conrad would have a job knocking in a nail. But makes up for it in so many other ways. My own son Simon, has only ever done one job for me, and that was to set some Potato's. He dug a DEEP TRENCH and lined them up in it. I don't remember them ever coming to the surface, so needless to say I haven't asked him to do other things. METHOD IN HIS MADNESS, or what. ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)
Not been a nice day here, but not cold, I am still in shorts with no top on. But so overcast with the odd shower.
Cold roast Lamb in gravy, new pots and veg tonight. There is still a load over, so will cut it off the bone, and mince tomorrow, I will either do mince with Veg and Spuds, or a Sheep S@@@ pie.
Conrad and Jan are coming up Thursday, and want to go to our nice Chinese. restaurant in the evening and want John and Carolyn to come also. Why, I don't know, but when Ros rang to invite them, they soon said YES. Conrad and Jan will be staying at the Hilton Hotel in the next village to us, close to the M1 jcn 15. They want us to go and have Breakfast with them Friday morning at the hotel. Jan has got Ros to book her in to have her nails done, where Ros is going tomorrow. So that's all booked. Don't know if Ros will stay with her, we will wait and see. If she does, Conrad can come back here with me. I don't know what plans they have for Friday afternoon, but I know they are stayng another night at the hotel Friday.
Still looking for a bracelet for Ros. Some are over £1,200.00 and most around £500/600, so will have to look for something that I can afford. which is none of those. !!!!
It's hardly got light this afternoon, with all this cloud.Instead off Eggs on Roast, I had a slice of Pork pie with Egg in, and a coffee. Now I don't feel hungry lol lol

Good afternoon
It was slightly cooler this morning but sunny and dry. It’s a different story this afternoon. Heavy showers on and off, now it's pouring and looks as though it’s set in for some time. As I am trying to get more exercise I was going to walk to a friend’s house but I think I’ll put it off for another day.
OH has had no ill effects from sorting the pavers yesterday. In fact he seems to have a new lease of life. I was going to drive him to the barber today but he drove, though I was with him just in case I needed to take over. The barber is in a tiny lane with no parking so he stopped outside and went in and I drove the car round to the main car park, did a bit of shopping and walked back to the barbershop. OH was just ready to come so I told him to stay in the waiting area and I would go and get the car, but he felt he could walk to the car park. It was a very slow stroll but he got there without much trouble. So he has made amazing progress just over the weekend.
I’m glad your foot is feeling better Gill. Now you must get that arm strong before you try using it again.
I hope your bot isn’t sore after your injection Frank.
I’m not a Poldark fan and stopped watching it after the first series but none of these extended series seem as good once they have used up all the stories from the books and get other writers in to make up new material.
I think TV is often disappointing these days but I do like a good book and use the library a lot for the real thing but also use my kindle a lot. I also have an app on my iPad called Libby which enables me to borrow library books and read them on my iPad. You need to be a library member to use the app as you have to register with your library card number. When you borrow a book it is downloaded to the iPad for three weeks. I think it’s brilliant.
It has stopped raining so I am going to take a chance and walk to my friend’s now before it starts again

Morning all,
Sunshine and showers here this morning.
I really don't know how you manage to do all those screws without an electric screwdriver or a drill attachment. No wonder you have a bad arm. Does oh not have a drill Gill????? You can get some cheap ones nowadays. Oh bought me an electric screwdriver years ago and it was only a few pounds and you recharge it so can take it anywhere. A good tool to have for so many jobs around the house and garden.
Pippyn my oh has so many tools and things I think he has just about everything you could possibly want know. We also have a compresser and nail gun which saves alot of time. He also cleans my hoover filter with the air gun and it makes a lovely job of it without getting it wet and having to wait for it to dry out. The wind has to be in the right direction though he tells me!!
We need to get petrol for the mowers sometime today so thats another 26 mile trip.
With all this rain lately the grass has grown like mad.

OH has got on well with the leeks, so we won't starve and son has just rung to say they'll be over at the weekend, so that's cheered us up, not that we were uncheered but it's nice to see them especially our grandson. :-D

Morning all, Yes there are so many postings, I don't think I know who wrote what, other than your OH VERA, What a silly man, possible undoing all the good work in his recovery. Jobs like that do take it out of you.
I have never watched or read POLDARK. Ros watches it every week, that's one of the reasons I go to bed at 9.00 pm. Last night was no different. I read until 10.00 pm turned on the radio, but the music wasn't to my liking, so that went off. I was still awake when Ros came in at Midnight. I was awake again by 5.00 am, and clocked watched until I got up.
Yes Annx, My uniform was of the era of when the Tunnel opened the first time in the 1700s. What a good memory you have. I still look at the photo's that were given to me by the local press at that time.
Horrible morning here, I feel sorry for those parents who have children on holiday at the seaside. How do you keep them amused in weather like this. The sky looks full of rain. So good job neither of us need to go out.
Tomorrow, Ros has a blood test at 9.30 am then her nails to hair at 11.00 am/ I will have to walk to the nurse for my injection at 11.30 am. So hope it's not raining then. !!!
Jane it's terrible when you hear news like that, so you can imagine what it is like when it's family. I have LOST my DAD, BROTHERS, JIM, BILL, and TED and my Twon Sister to CANCER. Jack from a Heart attack, my sister Clara to a STROKE. and Mum to old age (we think. She was 86) That only leaves Sister Mary and ME. SORRY FOLKS. Very depressing post. :-( :-( :-(
Ros is busy ironing all the whites from yesterday's wash, and the coloured bits that need doing. I showered this morning, without any trouble, so the BEGGER is behaving itself.
My lawns are looking like they need cutting again, I will have to ring Barry to see when he can come,
I haven't eaten this morning, so might get myself eggs on toast as a late breakfast. See you all soon. xxx

Apparently this series of Poldark isn't taken from the book!!! The producer has made up the story using the theme of the book hence Mel you not recognising the mad Irishman (Ned?) as he didn't exist in the original! It's so often the way that the moment a series gets tampered with it becomes less entertaining! I'm bored with Morwenna and Drake too!!! Not to mention the counterfeit money -as if?!!!! It's such a shame as we really loved it and now will be quite glad when it finishes! Better morning here! OH is getting on with those leeks, while I shall iron a few bits! I have to confess that I don't iron the way I used to, now I just do things that show! the rest gets put away in the airing cupboard! Forgive me Gill, but it must be awful doing all those screws by hand! OH has a bit that goes on his electric drill that makes It really easy to put them in and takes no time at all. Its amazing what you can buy these days that helps to make all these jobs easier. OH also has a nail gun which has proved invaluable for various jobs!! Hope everyone has a nice 'dry' day!

No I don't have an electric screwdriver AnnG and we don't do big jobs like this very often so it's not worth the expense of buying one. There's only six panels to put up so it won't take me long to do once my arm is better. The only people who can see the framework is us so it's not bothering anyone. My foot is much better after all the rest and is nearly healed now, so I'm just waiting for my arm to feel better then I can get on with it, if it's not raining by then.
I think the water board are going to fix the pipe for the neighbour but that hasn't been confirmed yet. I thought the same thing as you and it would be the gas board fixing it since it was there fault, but for some reason they're saying it's not up to them. I don't know the full story but the neighbour isn't very happy and has been told they will have to have some of their drive dug up for the new pipe to be put down.
It sounds like you're really busy with your cleaning, although finding the tissue wouldn't of been nice, it takes ages to pick it all out of the clothes to. Our place could do with a good going through but with my sore foot and arm I can't do it. Sandra's just offered to do the hoovering before she has a bath, so is getting the hoover all set up now. It's funny how she thinks of these things at the same time as I do. You don't realise how much you can't do with injuries. I'll be glad when they're healed then I can get back to normal. Enjoy your new kindle when it arrives.

Good morning all, sunny here but doesn't feel very warm outside. I have to wait in as My new kindle should be delivered today so I have cleaned the second half od the kitchen (still not done the oven!) and done a wash load. (ugh tissues, it is so annoying when one gets in with the washing. Normally the bigger tissues don't shred but somehow a small tissue out of the box on the dressing table got in with this load and shredded!)
Gill have you not got an electric screw driver? It sounds as though that is what you need for that job. Don't attempt it until your hand has recovered.
Surely if the gas board broke the pipe it is their responsibility? I wonder if it would be worth him getting onto his parish council for help sorting it.

Morning all
A little brighter today, we still have clouds but the sun is trying it's best to break through them, it's not forecast for rain today and tomorrow. OH has gone to see his friend for the day, but will finish the painting tomorrow if it's dry enough.
Yes, it's the Scottish gardening programme Ann, very similar to Gardeners World. You can tell the difference in temperature between Scotland and the South of the UK the flowers and plants don't look as good up in Scotland. Still it's a nice programme to watch. It sounds like you're doing well on your bracelet, I'm looking forward to seeing a picture when it's finished. The gas people would of needed access inside the neighbour's bungalow to check the gas and as far as I know no one had a key for the front or back doors, the only key one neighbour had was for the lock on the gate. The gas meter is outside so they could turn the gas off, but everything needed checking inside once the gas was reconnected. Everything seems okay, so he was very lucky, although it was a silly thing to do. I said they were strange people and it looks like I was right.
I never read the Poldark books so have nothing to compare it with, but like you said Pippyn it's gone to political now and like Ann, my mind drifts off a bit, so I loose track of what's going on. I had to smile when you said your phone is an older type, I've still got the very old Nokia, it's the only phone I've ever had and it has a green screen, now that's old lol :-D :-D It's lasted longer than any of the modern ones, everyone I know always seems to be changing their phones, the only problem I have with mine is the battery, it doesn't last very long, so I have to keep charging it up, but apart from that it's still going strong and it must be around 20 years old now.
So you've seen a hog Mel, that was nice, we haven't seen one for a while, but then that could be down to the bad weather, which surprises me as I thought they liked slugs which seems to come out more if the weather is wet. I'm hoping we see the hog tonight, now the weather has calmed down.
I couldn't believe what I was reading Vera when you told us about your OH and the heavy work he was doing, it wasn't that long ago he couldn't even stand up. I hope he listened to you and left the job until he's fully recovered. I can see why you were upset with him when the last holiday didn't go to plan, the last thing you want is this one going the same way. I hope he listened to you and stopped doing the job, surely it can wait until he's recovered properly. You could always do what Jane said and tie him down lol.
I'm itching to get on with the screening but my arm is still a bit sore and it involves lots of screws again, so I'm being sensible and waiting another week, then I'll see if I'm fit enough to do it, otherwise it'll wait a bit longer. The job's not going anywhere, so it's not worth hurting myself again. Besides I'm doing well on OH's tree, so I don't mind leaving the job a little longer.
The workmen are across the road making a start on the new gas pipes, so it's very noisy again. The neighbour two doors down from us on our side is in a dispute with the gas people and the water board. Apparently when they dug the hole outside his drive ready to replace the gas pipe, somehow they managed to break his drain pipe so now he waiting for it to be fixed and still has the hole, so he can't park his car down his drive. The gas people are saying the water board should fix it and the water board are saying it's the gas people who should do it. The neighbour isn't sure what's happening, or how long it's all going to take to fix. I do feel sorry for him and hope it's sorted soon.

Oh Vera fancy him finding a job like that to do when his back is still not fully better. They get these ideas in their heads and common sense leaves their bodies doesn't it. Mind you it's getting mine to get going on 'home jobs'. He talks about what he is going to do, will write a list, but then it can be weeks before he makes a start. Then instead of getting on with whatever himself, I seem to be needed to help and stopped or held up from what I'm doing.
Gill I sometimes watch Beechgrove on Sunday mornings before Ready Steady Cook if I'm still not up.. Its the Scottish one isn't it. I love it in the greenhouse in the Spring when the sun has warmed it up and it is cold outside. It's the best place in the garden then. I just can't get into Poldark this time either. I keep finding my mind drifting and lose the plot. lol
After Frank's disastrous day, I hope the meal turned out alright and that the lamb was delicious. It's really made me want some now. :-)
I've nearly finished the bracelet tonight that I restarted. I should get the clasp fitted tomorrow and will send a pic if I do. It might be one of my entries.

I'm pleased others have said they are not into this new Poldark. I read the books years ago in the late 60's 70's but don't remember there being anything about this Ned in them.
I went down just as it was getting dark to put the bantams food away for the night and popped the bowl in my shed turned around to close the top of the door and there tanding dead still looking at me was a hog. I carried on closing the door and then then looked to see where it had gone and it was heading to the base of the big ash tree where the grass is longer. I then went and filled up the foodbowl but I hav'nt seen it since.
Yes the EGG was a double yolker and it filled my little frying pan so I had to get a spoon out to baste the yolks no room for the spatula and I had to cut it in half to get it out of the pan onto my plate. I have no idea which hen layed it as I have only been getting two eggs a day fro m the new girls so it could have been one of those or just an old one decided it was time she laid an egg. Whichever one it was it was delishious.
There are so many posts I am not going to remark on them all but what I will say is that oh says he is always right cos he is a man and he stands up for a wee and we ladies have to sit down. Logic or not? I told him I could stnd up if I wanted to.

We used to love it, but like you I'm finding this series a bit tedious! Apparently the story isn't being taken from the books anymore and I think that's why it's not as good as it was - Bit too political for me as well!!! My phone is of an older type too Annx!!! OH has a more modern one and I do have a kindle which I do like for buying or borrowing books. It does mean that books are kept under control so to speak, but like you we both like a proper book too, so we sort of mix and match!!! We had lunch about 2.45 today, so an easy supper this evening - hooray!!

Afternoon All,
Sunny here now, but we had a cloudburst at Lutterworth when we went for lunch.
Jane how sad to get that news about your old friend. She's obviously been through a tough time up to now but it doesn't sound good for her does it. I bet she was so pleased to hear from you for a chat.
Crikey Mel, I bet there was an 'OUCH' when that egg was laid. I wonder which chicken it was? Was it a double yolk? I hope the Swallows are finding enough to feed their brood as it must be hard when it's so windy. The poor things must get exhausted battling against it. It's nice you still see Robby and the Wren. They have such a loud song for such a small bird. I slept well last night but woke up hot and had to go back to just a sheet on top of me.
Luckily the party didn't last very long. I heard rain on the window after a while so that may have been why. I'm not sure that would work on our doors Mel as we have tried old towels before, which did work sometimes. If I get really fed up I use a shoe like Jane or a heavy book! lol :-) The worst thing when in the lounge is the letterbox rattling. A bit broke off it a while a go and it goes flap, flap flap in the wind and you think someone is at the door! I think I might try some stick on foam strip I have on that.
AnnG I have never been one for eating a lot of red or processed meats and over the years OH has also cut down somewhat. Lamb is my exception though and if that is on a menu I will have it and so will OH. Also the occasional lamb or pork chop at home. Otherwise I have turkey, chicken or fish. OH loves fish like Frank and will try all kinds, but neither of us fancy shellfish. I still have an old style phone because I can't face the hassle of changing to a new one, so I would be put off a Kindle, although they would be good when you go on holiday. OH prefers a book to hold so he hasn't got one either. We are becoming dinosaurs! lol That's just what my OH does when he comes to anything like a village show with me.........heads for the tea and cake! lol.
We have just had a thunderstorm that cut off the satellite signal and the rain was so heavy it was like a stream down the road and running down the drives opposite. It has left puddles in the gravel at the back. I hope it hasn't rained like it at the canal festival Frank or they will get soaked. I always think of you in the postman's uniform you wore a few years ago when the festival is on. I remember you couldn't get into the trousers then, but if you are lighter now you might!!
I hope the neighbour hasn't touched the gas Gill if the gas people were coming back to switch it on. Could they have already been and checked it do you think? Your and your neighbours bungalows must be looking nice with the fresh paintwork now. I hope the forecast is right so your OH will be able to finish the painting on Tuesday.

Perhaps when AnninG's OH has finished your lounge carpet he could come and do ours Jane. It desperately needs it. It's looking very grubby in front of the seats where our feet go. Because we have underfloor heating downstairs we only have a cheapish carpet in our lounge so I keep suggesting we get a new one but all I get are mutterings about having to move all the heavy furniture.
Frank, what are you like? Fancy using plastic instead of baking parchment. At least you were trying to make a nice treat for Ros so your heart's in the right place.
It's good that you have some birds around Gill. I know Sandra gets pleasure from watching them. I haven't seen or heard many birds about here for a couple of days. They are probably all staying out of the wind and the rain, though today has been much nicer. A bit windy still but no rain so far. I changed the bedding and got that all washed and it dried quite quickly.
I hope you enjoyed THE egg Mel. What a whopper. You'd only need one of those to make an omelette.
I was so sorry to hear about your friend Jane. None of us know what's round the corner but life often seems to deal a rotten hand to the best people. I feel like that about my brother. I wish her all the luck in the world.
Block your ears now Frank, I am going to have a moan about men. Why do they have to be so obstinate and always think they know best? I popped down the road earlier today to put a birthday card through someone's door. As I came back I could see the garage light on, so looked in and saw a box of tools out on the floor. What the heck is he up to now I thought. Then I found him; on his hands and knees digging up and lifting some brick sized pavers from outside the garage. Some months ago he had to replace a couple of these pavers that were cracked and could no longer get the same colour - a sort of dark, mottled grey - so he got a couple of black ones. They did stick out like a sore thumb so he decided that when he had time he would swop them for a couple of the old ones that were more hidden round the side. The black ones wouldn't be so noticeable there and the old ones would blend in better at the front. This job has been waiting a few months so why did it have to be done now? All he could say is "I want to get it done". I am afraid I said a few words. He is just beginning to make a good recovery and we are now expecting to go on our planned trip to Jersey in 5-6 weeks time. I have said that if he crooks himself up again I shall book him in for respite at a care home and go to Jersey without him. We'll be limited in what we can do anyway but I am really looking forward to a few days break with our friends and will be furious with him if he goes silly and spoils his recovery so we can't go.
OK, moan over.
How much longer do you have to go on your month's trial Pippyn? You mentioned you are going away in September but I hope you decide to take out a subscription to GR.
We had our dinner about 2.30. Turkey breast with cranberry sauce (don't tell OH but it had a good slurp of his best port in it), roast potatoes and plenty of veg followed by rhubarb and custard. I still feel full so I think I might go out for a short while and walk some of it off.

It sounds like you've been very busy today Pippyn. I remember when we got rid of our garage and bought a smaller shed OH put a lot of his things, including the lawn mower in our greenhouse. I had to sort the shed out to make room for everything he had put in the greenhouse as I had no where to put my plants. He can be silly sometimes, but I still love him. :-) We don't have anything in our greenhouse now, the tomatoes are finished and the two bluebell climbers I had in there are now in the border. It's come in handy having it empty as I've put two chairs in there which we can sit on if the weather is a bit cold when working outside, it's like a little conservatory and out of the wind.
