Mel Fairy Godmother Report 31 Jul 2019 09:44

Morning all,

Bright and sunny so far today with plenty of blue sky and fluffy wispy white clouds. Such a change from yesterdays rain nearly asll day.

Vera it will be so good if your brother dos'nt have to have the follow up op after what the doc said yesterday. I hope he recovers soon and sending best wishes.

Jane it makes you wonder if Thomas gets up on other rooves of sheds and thats why he goes missing if he can't get down for a while. Silly boy. He looks in good fettle at the moment, he is such a handsom cat.

Mandy it must be hard for son and DIL to get all those uniforms for the children so its good you can help out at times like these. I bet they are excited about the new schools too and I also bet that you bought the uniforms a bit bigger than they need so they will last as children seem to grow a lot in the school holidays. I remember going to Gants Hill for my uniform and pe gear etc. Frank will know Gants Hill. The shop for the outfits was next door to Halfords where mum and dad bought my byke which I rode home while they walked!!!!!!! It was a Triumph Palm Beach in two tone blue.

Ann the little wreath sounds like my sort of thing if it was anything to do with fairies. What bits did you buy apart from your felting wool? More books for oh, you will have to make sure some go out of the house if he wants to bring more in.

Mandy lots of things in the garden are doing well after last years hot summer. my varigated holly down by my shed has loads of berries on it this year but I expect the birds will eat them all before I maske my wreaths.

Oh's scripts will be delivered on Thursday to the shop up the road. The excuse was that I ordered a special brand of pills and they had'nt come in untill after the delivery was taken to the shop. It is a nuisance though as we don't have enough for the next two days for some of his pills, well most of them.

I did'nt get out till late yesterday and had to do both Lidl and Morrisons and did't get home till 20 to seven and I was so tired I did'nt get back on here.

Well must get on if I want to get up the caravan today and take the curtains down to wash and they should dry today if the weather stays like this.

Are they the roses in your avatar Mandy? That's unusual with some roses to get two lots of flowers. It seems to have been a good year for roses though and some of the scented ones smell lovely. The little heart is made of another of the Aldi fabrics in the fat quarter I got. I made 2 in each of 2 of the fabric squares. Yes ANOTHER book! lol I could hardly grumble though as he kept paying for the things I bought.I did tell him I hadn't seen any going out of the bungalow lately which made him smile.

I bet it's lovely to see the children in their new uniforms and with so many to get it's good you and Colin can help out. Will there be a photo of them all wearing them? I can remember trying on my school uniform a few times before starting at senior school, I was so chuffed and thought I looked 'important.' lol That was before we were told all the rules that went with it, like no eating in the street while wearing it, that we were privileged to be going to the school and needed to set an example and there were plenty of others ready to take our place. Winter hats must be worn in summer if we wore our mackintoshes, and with our blazers if we wore our winter uniforms, outdoor shoes must not be worn indoors.........it began to sound like hard work! Some of the primary school uniforms nowadays, which we never had at the schools I went to at those ages, look so comfy and smart nowadays I wouldn't mind one myself! I remember my school badge had 3 sheaves of corn on it and I remember keeping it, but it had disappeared before I left home.

We have some small runners at last. The biggest is about 5 inches long and skinny as can be at the moment. It's been our best year for cues which are still coming, but the toms are strange this year. All the same variety, but one is very leggy without much fruit, one looks like they usually do and the other has a very thick stem, still quite short and has few sprays of flowers but with plenty on them. You would think they were 3 different varieties.

OH will be home soon and soaked to the skin as it has been throwing it down here.

I meant to say about my roses in the front garden ,the old white one and the pink one that were my Nanny's rose and usually only flower the once are now flowering again !!
My sister has a piece of the white rose and she said hers is flowering again too ,never been known to flower twice .
I also have a primrose in flower .

Evening all,

Looks like we have had the best of the weather today ,it's been a lovely hot sunny
day,we've been fiddling with the pool this afternoon as Colin found a little split in the pipe that goes to the scimmer so we found another bit of pipe and got it all fixed .

This morning i went wth DIL to get the some of the childrens school uniforms ,Colin said he would pay so off we went with his card ,two school skirts ,pe kit, socks ,badges for the blazers for Chelsea and two tops each for Katie Lacey and Lewis ,i have to say we came home just over a couple of hundred pounds lighter :-0
We had already paid for blazers ,tops and skirts but we like to help them out were we can ,they still need new shoes and bags .

Oh Frank your poor head and body ,you did go down a cropper ,you wee so lucky you didn't break some bones ,poor Ros must have been so shocked to see you laying there .
That really good she is infection free at last ,fingers crossed that they will be able to help her pain once she's had the MRI .
That was good Barry got the lawns done and a bit of the garden you carnt go out there trying to do it after your fall .

Jane what lovely views across the fields what a shame it will all be built on .i expect they will soon be cutting and you'll get all the dust blowing about.
Oh poor old Thomas getting stuck up there on the roof :-D

Ann fancy letting OH buy more books :-D :-D :-D pound a book was a bargain though .
The little twig wreaths with ivy sound nice .

Best wishes to your brother Vera ,you must be relieved the op is over for him and he's in recovery now ,fingers crossed he won't have to go through another op and he recovers well.
How is OH ,has he had his little walk today ?

AnnG that's good the hearing aid is now more comfortable for you to wear ,sore ears are not nice .
I was going to suggest taking a cork for the bottle or maybe another bottle or one of those big drinking cups to take the drink away with you and you have paid for it after all so why shouldn't you take it away .

Mel thats a nuisance having to go again for the tablets ,we put our prescriptions in to the doctors today ,we'll leave them a week before we go and pick them up .
I'm sure i read some where that some of the tablets that come from boots are not dispensed in the store but they are done some where else and come into store all ready bagged up and labled for you ,some times we have some in a plastic bag and some in the paper bags

Clouded up here now but i can still see patches of blue sky .

Oh just noticed your petty little heart Ann :-D

Afternoon All,

It may be to do with what kind of license they have AnnG. They would need an 'off license' to sell alcohol for consumption off the premises which they may not have. I would take your own screw top bottle and decant what's left. It's just encouraging drink driving isn't it! :-S That's good your aids are much more comfy now they have fixed them.

Frank I would be surprised if you weren't stiff and achey after that nasty fall. Your head will have a nasty bruise too. What did you trip over? That's great that Barry has done some garden jobs for you. Good luck tomorrow for Ros's scan. I hope she doesn't have to wait for long and that there will be something they can do to help her painful back. It's a good idea to get the shower fixed before it packs up altogether as it still isn't right. You don't want icy showers that take your breath away!

Vera is there room on your high horse for me too! :-D I'm getting annoyed about all the lovely mature trees being chopped down and the hedges uprooted around here with the new developments. It's just not necessary. They built a park and ride on lovely farm fields just down the main road and chopped down 2 beautiful trees. Despite the opposition to the park and ride it went ahead and what happened.........it had so little use, the council was making a huge loss each year and now they have to rent spaces out to businesses nearby to reduce the losses. :-S The traffic in our narrow village streets is awful and parking is so bad that despite there being 2 co-ops in our village, I drive 2 miles further to the next village as I can park there! This is before they have made much headway with the 4000+ houses they are building the other side of the village.

Best wishes to your brother after his operation. Fingers crossed he may not need another. I hope he has a swift recovery. :-)

Jane I bet you enjoyed your trip to Rushden Lakes and good that you found all you needed at M&S. Does Chris get grumpy with shopping then? OH gets restless if he needs to be somewhere else soon and will keep saying 'is that it then?' lol. In the past I have suggested we just get what I need if he wants to be quicker! :-D :-D I would wanting the onion gravy too. :-D

I wonder how Gill is getting on and whether her driveway is still safe?

We went to the manor house carvery today and the newish chef welcomed us like old friends and reached over to hug my hand which seemed a bit strange! Still, she gave us big helpings of meat, so that was good.

Oh Mel, what a nuisance about the scripts. I hope you don't have to go to Holsworthy for them yourself and that they will send replacements quickly. We get no choice about the manufacturer here and they are always changing them.
I went to the new craft shop in the container this afternoon and got some more felting wool and needles and animal eyes as I have an idea I want to make. :-) I was there ages chatting about different crafts with the nice girl that runs it and she has made some lovely things she showed me. She had done some lovely small twig wreaths with tiny plastic ivy wound around and the bottom of them was filled with small pompoms in different shades of green as a woodland garden to a fairy house!

Still getting heavy showers here and a house alarm nearby has been going off for about an hour now. :-S

Jane

Jane Report 30 Jul 2019 17:04

AnnG maybe you should take a cork with you next time (if you have any left over :-D) you could then pop the cork in and take it away :-D :-D :-D Maybe they thought you were a couple of ruffians LOL

Oh Vera you must be relieved now your Brother is in recovery. I know you cant put up here what exactly he has had done ,that would'nt be right. But I am curious (not nosey) so if you are able to say at all even by PM I would be interested to know .Anything medical however gory is interesting to me :-D A shorter recovery for him sounds good and the possibilty of not needing the second part of the op is even better.

I do believe it has actually stopped raining (for the moment) I just spotted Chris going down the path towards the greenhouse.

SuffolkVera Report 30 Jul 2019 16:28

Good news about Ros’s infection. I’m very pleased for her. I hope tomorrow’s scan goes as well.

Thank you for all your good wishes for my brother. I have just heard a few minutes ago that he is in recovery but things didn’t go quite as planned. I won’t post his medical details on an open site and without his permission but in general terms this was supposed to be the first stage of a double op, the second stage being in 2-3 weeks time. However, when the two consultants “went in” they found things weren’t quite as expected and they had to tackle the op in a different way. We have been told that it means recovery time may be shorter and he may not have to have the second part of the op. In the short term it looks good but we don’t yet know what the outlook is long term. I am expecting another phone call late this evening when I hope to get a few more details.

Now I feel in need of a cup of tea.

Yes it was strange about the wine Jane, only last week we took home a bottle half full from the Beefeater. I wondered if it was a new licencing law, or to stop people taking bottles out into the town and smashing them over somebody@s head!!! It is quite rough in the area at night. Good job we wee on the bus.

Afternoon All

I am really pleased that Ros got the all clear regarding her infection Frank.Back again then tomorrow for her MRI. Did you say that this is for her painful back?
You must feel like you have been run over by a bus now with all your poor achey muscles /bones and your wonderful bruise on your bonce.

Vera I hope that your Brother has now come out of surgery and that it hall all one well.Poor man has been through a lot with all these ops. He has only really just got over the last one.I wish him a speedy recovery this time around.

Ann hope the new aid will fit perfectly this time . Nice lunch :-D I am suprised about them saying they aren't allowed to give you the top the the bottle. I have never heard of that . You paid for the wine after all so should have been able ot take away what you hadn't had.

Oh Mel what a pain with OH's script not being ready.Does this mean another trip back for you tomorrow?

We have been over to Rushden lakes this morning and I did a good food shop in M&S.
There were some certain things I love and I was lucky that I managed to find everything I wanted :-). Then it was to Tesco . I think Chris was cheesed off by then so I told him to stay in the car while I went in. I didn't fancy having a grumpy old bum traipsing along beside me :-D

What a miserable old day it is here. Some really heavy downpours and humid. It id really windy too. Chris is watching he Camomile Lawn on a disc on his laptop and I have been watching Four in a bed. I think I will have a read on my KIndle now for a little while.
Sausages,Mash ,Kale and Carrots for our dinner tonight,I got some Caramelised Onion and Ale Gravy for the men .I will just have my good old Bisto :-D
But before I do anything I am going to make a nice Cuppa.

Afternoon all,

It started raining here before 9.30 as we were leaving for the hospital. It has rain ever since, but now very light drizzle It's very humid also, I have changed in to shorts and bare cheated. (don't get excited GIRLS lol lol.

ROS, said the nurse was very pleased to see she is INFECTION FREE, regarding her water works, so the treatment seems to be working. Her MRI scan is at 5.35 tomorrow, so quite late in the day. Lets hope she gets in on time. This morning her appointment was for 1O.00 am but didn't go in until 10.45 am.

I picked up my new glass's this morning, while Ros got some bits from Tesco. Vision Express is in our local Tesco's now, so that is good.

Ros is having a Lamb shank tonight with New Potatoes, Broad Beans, Runner Beans, carrot's and peas. While I am having Steak and Ale pie, chips and Baked beans.

Simon rang this morning to see how we were, and was concerned when I told him about my fall. The bruise on my temple is coming out now, My shoulder, elbow, wrist and hip are very uncomfortable, so there is no doubt that was the way I fell.

The shower is playing up again, so I MUST see about getting it replaced. Harvey said he could fit the new one. So I will look to see whats available on my Ebay. or we could look in B & Q tomorrow as well.

Time for a COT and cake. I will get dinner for around six. I can be doing the washing up while Ros watches her soaps. :-P :-P :-P

We have been to hearing clinic to have my aids calibrated and the R/H one mould made smaller. then in to Wetherspoons for lunch. Steak day so we had a 5 ounce sirloin each with chips peas mushroom and tomato plus a bottle of Hardy's wine for 21.40 for the two of us. We had thought we'd be able to bring the remainder of the bottle home as we used to do but she said they were not allowed to give us the top so we had to drink it all. Not something we'd normally do at lunch time but I suppose there are worse things you are forced to do. The steak was beautiful, such a lovely flavour and so tender, we really enjoyed it and there was only the outside fat left on the plate.

My aids are fine now and the right hand one now she has reduced the bulk of the mould is much more comfortable.

Vera, I do hope all goes well for your brother, he has been through such a lot hasn't he? Sending him get well wishes. <3 <3

Mel, isn't it infuriating when things go wrong with the scripts. Bad enough having to take medication without all the complications caused by suppliers.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 30 Jul 2019 13:28

The suns out here at the moment but the sky is still cloudy.

Oh has been trying all morning to set my new phone up. Its one of the great big ones which i did'nt really want as it won't fit in my pocket. So when its set up I shall have to get used to a new phone. This one has evrything on it so I hope I can cope with it.

Morning everyone

Windy and grey here. No rain yet but looks as though it might pour at any minute.

Frank, what are you like? Another fall and bump on the head. I’ve got a hard riding helmet here. I think I had better send it to you as a bit of protection for your poor head. Seriously, any bang on the head, particularly with loss of consciousness, should be checked out. If it happens again at a time you can’t speak to your GP get Ros to ring 111. They will advise you and maybe send a paramedic to check you over. I hope Ros gets on OK at the hospital.

You seem to be doing pretty well Jane. Lovely views in your photos. It’s such a shame when all that land goes to housing. I know people need homes but once the land is taken out of use it can’t be brought back into production. And people need green spaces for their mental well being. Our lovely market town has now been surrounded by housing estates so the population has gone up but there has been no new infrastructure. The town centre is now always clogged with traffic, especially as bus services have also been cut so people have to use their cars, and the doctors’ surgeries are struggling to cope. It all seems so short sighted. I’d better climb down from my high horse before I fall off, lol.

It’s very hot and sticky indoors. I’ve done the ironing and am trying to decide whether I can face hoovering. I’m finding it hard to concentrate on anything much today as my brother is having his next operation. I had a call a couple of hours ago to say he had gone to theatre but I have been told I won’t hear any more for several hours, so I am a bit on edge.

I’ll go now and find something to occupy me. Have a good day everyone

Goo morning all,

I will be going with Ros this morning to Hospital as Carolyn is busy.

Didn't have the best of nights last night. Not being able to turn over, each time I tried I got pain down my left hand side which woke me up. My shoulder feels even worse this morning. Feels like the bones have been SCREWED together at the joint.

Barry called at the door last night, asking if I needed him for an hour. YES PLEASE. So lawns and edges all tidy, and he has forked over the boarders too. He also did Tony's

Glad to see you are getting out a little Jane, It must feel nice to have a bit of independence. BE CAREFUL THOUGH !!!!

When we moved in to this bungalow, there was wire fencing down our left hand side of the back garden. It was the original fence put in by the builders. We had Harvey up for a day, to rip it all down, and put up a SIX FOOT Feather Edge fence. Which now you can hardly see,for all the vegetation that Ros has planted over the years. It must be better for the four neighbours, who's back gardens are down that side of our boundary. There houses being in a different road to our close.

Must be off now, to get to the hospital. xxxx

Annx Report 29 Jul 2019 20:29

Evening All,

Thanks for sending the pics Mel. The horse's head is really good and I'm not surprised you did well with it. The other makes are all lovely as well. Did you use brick stitch for the pretty mistletoe brooch?

Jane that view of the lovely cornfield is so much better than the view you will have of houses. Once the fields go they don't come back. It breaks my heart too seeing what has happened in this area since I was age 15 and all the wildlife that has disappeared. Sorry I missed your posts, I've just looked and missed them again in almost a fortnight but that doesn't surprise me!!! I find I get more back trouble with not quite walking properly because the left knee is worse, so maybe Fitz has been the same with his hip and some physio might help. It must be hard to be as motivated with your exercises when you are at home by yourself as well. So it's 'goodbye socks' soon! lol It does seem ages that you have been wearing them and all through the heat too. As you say with the seat though, best not to jettison that too soon.

Frank now what did I say about you needing a crash helmet! :-0 That was a really nasty fall though so please get off to the docs if you start to get the symptoms Jane mentioned. It's what they told me when I fell backwards on to the corner of the bungalow wall........but I wasn't unconscious like you. What a fright for Ros, I would have feared the worst seeing you there too. I hope she gets on ok having her scan.

Gill, I bet Sandra's eyes lit up as brightly as the light up flamingoes' when she saw them. They were right up her street weren't they? I can understand her feeling that the rooms aren't private anymore and I bet she can't feel relaxed now. One of our side windows looks over the fence to the neighbour's bedroom and, although we are higher, I don't like sitting with the curtains open in the evening, even though it affects the neighbour most. I hope you get on ok with attaching the fencing. What a nuisance having to find somewhere to park your car. You have had a right day as you say, but fingers crossed they don't need to dig up any of your drive. Ours is already outside, but they still knock the door to read it as they don't bother to look down the side where it is. That was a shame they couldn't sort your OH's tooth, but it was good the dentist spotted the infection and is treating it first.

We had a cracking shopping day. OH came with me to the retail park near Grantham this morning as their sale starts today and I had a voucher for a further 10% off. He was chuffed to get 2 pairs of shoes and I got some sandals. He also got an autobiography he fancied for £1.......yes more books lol, but £1 is a bargain. I also got a pair of new dimmable bedside lights with little white glass shades that fit just right and you can pose them just where you want. I've been looking for some to fit the space for ages too. I also got a jewellery box where you choose the layers you want with the type of compartments you want and stack them up on top of each other. I wanted a winter jacket but didn't see anything I liked. We had lasagne while we were there and mine was a vegetable one and very tasty.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 29 Jul 2019 18:05

Yes it was me asked if Ros took Statins as Frank said she had had gratefruit for breakfast. Thats the thing I miss the most as it was my favorite fruit and I used to eat the red and pink ones and the pink gratefruit squash was the ony squash I drank.

Poor you Frank now you'll have a sore shouder for a while and I hope your eye dos'nt go black. I can see Ros will have to tie you down on the bed tonight. Ha ha ha....

Gill the featherboarding should be better than the screening as it wil last much longer. Hope you don'nt have a lot of trouble putting it up.

I put my solar lights on the windowsill during the day to charge up as I have them up the hal and in the bathroom at night with it being so dark here you can't ee a thing if there's no moon. In the shed I have the panels in the window too and that faces west and the lights work ok in there during the summer but not so much in the winter.
I bet she was delighted with her flamingoes. Bless...... <3

Gillx

Gillx Report 29 Jul 2019 18:03

Featherboard is wood that is thin along one edge and fat along the other, you over lap it to make a strong fence. We already have that type of fence but we'd like it a foot higher to block the view from the window the new neighbours put at the side of their bungalow. Sandra doesn't like the fact that they can see into her bedroom and the bathroom and toilet as they are all on that side. She doesn't want a black out blind and the blinds she's got now are quite thin so when her light is on anyone can see her silhouette through them, she has curtains but they are also quite thin, the blinds in the bathroom and toilet are the same but without curtains so she's self conscious about them seeing her.

I've tried to tell her that they don't use that room so won't see her but she's got herself in a state and the only thing that will calm her down is to higher the fence so they can't see. I don't mind doing the job but I've never done it before so I'm not quite sure what I'm doing. I'd rather put the new featherboard over the top of the old one to make it stronger as it's very windy here, especially in the winter and the battens behind it that the featherboard is attached to isn't that good after being there for 11 years, if that broke trying to take the old stuff off I really would be in a mess and OH can't really help me do anything heavy at the moment.

We were hoping to attach a wooden frame to the existing fence and then attach the bamboo screening like we've done in the back but the wood is to thick for the gate to open properly, so it can't be done that way. Using the featherboard would mean the gate will open fully as it's only about half an inch thick compared to the one and half inch the other wood is.

I've just Googled featherboard and I've got the name wrong it's feather edge. Sorry for confusing everyone.

I'm sure I'll work it out eventually and if I can't I had a word with the builder across the road who said he could do it ,but not until September or October and I'm not sure Sandra would be able to cope for that long, it's really stressing her out and it doesn't help if the new neighbours leave their light on at night. I just want to make Sandra feel happier when she's in her room and not to have to worry all the time. The wood's arriving tomorrow so if it's not raining I'll take a look and see if I can work it out so it'll stop her worrying.

I'm getting really tired now and the workmen have just old OH that they maybe working through the night, I hope not as it's really noisy and I don't think another night of no sleep would be good. The neighbour that said we could park our car on his drive has now said he doesn't want the responsibility of it being there overnight incase something happens to it, so we've got to find somewhere else to park as we have no access to our drive now.

Today seems to be getting worse. In a way I'm glad I'm so tired as it's stopping me stressing to much.
