Good afternoon folks

Gosh, is is hot and apparently it’s going to get hotter. I decided to get some jobs done early before I wilted too much so I changed the bedding and got 3 loads of washing out. Then I did an hour in the garden. I was wearing a hat but the sun was still giving me a headache so I couldn’t manage more than an hour outside.

That was a pretty good price for your glasses Frank. I have varifocals but have to have prescription sunglasses as well so always have to get two pairs. Last time I got them I had to pay over £700 for the two, and that was with getting the sunglasses half price and getting a discount for being over 65.

Poor James. I bet his toe is sore today. Now you are down to one crutch, perhaps he could borrow the other one.and you could hop along together :-D. I hope he can get his shoe on and drive OK.

I’m now going to relax for an hour with Gentleman Jack. I’ve been watching on iPlayer and am only up to episode 4 so I’ve got a bit of catching up to do.

Frank Report 22 Jul 2019 14:07

Afternoon to all you "GORGEOUS" people also.

Lots of things done this morning. Eos changed the wedding this morning and put thew W/M on, before dropping me of for my eye test. I forgot to take my little purse with change in, so had to use my card to buy a paper. Eos went on to the hospital, LOADED with all the letters, when the receptionist was questioned about all the waste of Postage and Paper. She said it's not our fault, and blamed another department. She sorted that out, and then went to pick up more hearing aid batteries. She had to double park, as it is only usually a quick in and out job. NOT TODAY. The two girls stood taking to each other, instead of sorting out the waiting patients. Ros stepped forward and said COULD YOU PLEASE SEE TO US WHO ARE WAITING, and have your chat later. One girl opened the computer, while the other gave Ros a dirty look and said "WHAT DO YOU WANT" She was tempted to say a "PINT OF MILK" but thought better of it. !!! She got her batteries and left.

My eyes are not too bad, but I do need two pairs, long distance and reading. We were very lucky the frames (some of them) were in a 50% off sale. I found two frames that ROS LIKED. With new lenses and treatment of the lens. I got TWO PAIRS for under £140.00 Ros said she pays more than that for just ONE PAIR.

When we got home, I put up the line while she emptied the W/M. I carried the basket to the lawn and had my usual TRIP, but stayed upright. ;-) ;-)

Poor old James, Is he able to go to work and drive. ?? I could just see Dr.Chris putting his expertise to work. Lets hope it heals quickly. (IT'S DONE IN AGAIN, I typed ABLE and it came up "VIEW" ) How on earth did that happen. ??

These THIEFS who strip Church Roofs, should have their hands FALL OFF. !!! I read in the paper this morning that THREE HORSES in Wales, have had their tails removed by thiefs , who have been trying to sell them to hair dressers, for hair extensions. I know what extension I would give them. FROM THE END OF A ROPE> :-( :-( :-(

Ros is down at Carolyn's stitching all this bunting to tape, Carolyn took on this job, knowing full well that she hasn't got a sewing machine. How silly is that.!!! Good old Ros. ;-) ;-)

Tomorrow night the temperature is expected to reach 25 degrees, and Wednesday to get up to 38/9 degrees. So keep the fans handy girls, and watch out for those GNATS. I have been bitted twice on my left shoulder. But I do sleep with my arms out of bed, and the window open.

My goodness, the wind has really got up, and is blowing the sheets into the bushes in the boarder. so I had better go and retrieve them. BBL xxx

AnninGlos Report 21 Jul 2019 21:51

Lol Jane yes I knew Chris was a GP that was what I meant.

Annx that was an interesting trip round the villages. Isn’t it sad when these thieves desecrate lovely old buildings. Shame the people who buy the lead are not caught and made an example of. It must be obvious to them that the lead is not legitimate..

We were walking through Gloucester yesterday on our way to the Docks when we realised the door to the oldest church in Gloucester was open. For a long time it had all been boarded up as they worked on it having had a lottery grant and money from Gloucester Heritage. A lady invited us in and we were fascinated to look round and realise what a gem was on our doorstep I think it’s correct name is St Mary de Crypt church, some lovely stained glass windows and the nice thing is it is to be used for all sorts of events for the community such as concerts.

I find the pull on Sketcher style comfortable as it is quite a rounded shape which suits my feet which are broader than they used to be but not longer.

MillymollyAmanda Report 21 Jul 2019 19:50

I think it's Gnats Ann that come in the windows ,i had two bites on my ankle the other night ,and that's because my feet feel hot so i push the cover off ,cor don't they itch when the covers touch them :-0 i bought soe bite and sting cream but it hasn't done much good .

We usually have plenty of flowers on the runner beans but then they fall off leaving just a little bit of stalk so this year i was quite surprised to see the tiny beans .

Oh Mel i love Kellys ice cream , i bought a block of ice cream from Tesco the other day and got some wafers ,the children thought it was great having a wafer ice cream . :-D

Annx Report 21 Jul 2019 19:37

Poor James, that must have been nasty! Mandy I am convinced something flies in through our bedroom window at night and bites me! A couple of weeks ago I woke up with 2 bites on my right cheek and one on my chin and this week I have 2 bites on my left cheek. You are doing better with your runners than me. I looked at them this morning and there are plenty of flowers now in the last couple of days but no sign of a bean yet......unless they have become has beans and dropped off!

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 21 Jul 2019 19:32

O poor James how did he manage to do that to his toe? I'd like to see the grumsome pic please Jane.

Anng its a shame when you see a nice plant or shrub and its too big for your garden. I on the other hand don't have that problem but I think I have enough now to see me through. Oh dos'nt like things in the lawn as it interferes with his mowing and most of the side are now planted.

I never buy broad beens but when we had the big veg garden we used to grow them as they sold well on our barrow out the front. We did have some when they were really small.

I have been sewing most of the afternoon and am still not finished yet.

Shall have to get something to eat soon. I have a nice pork pie we can eat with some pickles and I have walnuts and grapes. If he wants anything else he can have some icecream, Kelly's cornish cream, mmmmmmmmmmm.

Oh stubbed toes !! so painful ,i caught my toes on the step the other day ,stupid really as i was on the step turned to sharply and put my toes under the door step bit of the back door and grazed my toes .
Sounds as if poor James had done a right job on his toe how did he do that ,i'll have a look Jane i don't mind a bit of blood :-0
Hope that naughty Thomas turns up .

Broad beans are not one of my favorite veg ,i like them raw rather than cooked .
I see we have some tiny runners coming they are about half an inch long .

I need to do some dead heading tomorrow and like you AnnG i need to do the sticky petunias.
I think some thing stung the side of my finger he other day ,at first i thought i had some thing in there but i carn't see any thing in it and it feels sore now when you touch it , i had hold of a hanging pot and i felt it when i had hold of the rim so i think there night have been some thing under the rim of the pot .

Annx

Annx Report 21 Jul 2019 19:24

Well. I did get a snooze after but not enough and I could have slept on once it was time to get up and get ready to go out, so no long lie in AnnG. Isn't it always the same though.

Jane what a long time to have to wear those wretched stockings! I hadn't realised you need them after a knee replacement either......something to look forward to!! :-S Could you wrap your foot and leg in cling film to help them slide on more easily? Then you could roll them back down to the ankle to remove the cling film and, once you have removed it, roll them back up to the knee. It might be worth a try to make things easier. It must be exhausting getting them on otherwise.

Mel what a shame the beaded mistletoe brooch has disappeared. You haven't left it pinned on to any of your coats or cardies have you? I shall be interested to see what you are making at the moment when you have finished it! :-) How is your face now and are you able to wear your teeth ok again now?

Frank I am always stubbing my toes on supermarket trolley wheels when I have open toed sandals on! You just don't know what to do with yourself for a few seconds as it really hurts. I hope yours are feeling better now! I like broad beans if they are picked small. Mum used to cook them in a frying pan with chopped bacon and I loved them like that with new potatoes and a fried egg!! lol I remember when the tops of the beans were pinched out before the blackfly attacked we would have those cooked as a vegetable too. Mum wasted nothing and we had all of the cabbage and cauliflower chopped up including the stalks.

A couple of my beading friends wear those Sketchers AnninG and I like the comfy soles. The trainers I find awkward to put on without my knees hurting now and the pump style ones are too rounded on the insides for me as I have very straight big toes and they feel as if they would rub! The TOFs factory shops sell them cheaply too, the trainers are £35 and the others are £22 I think. I keep trying new styles on though as they come in and I would like some as slippers as they wouldn't slip on our hard floors like some slippers do.

We had what turned out to be an interesting little trip around the Melton Mowbray area after lunch. I had found a church at Brentingby that said the tower still remained and belonged to the church and you could view it outside, but the rest of the church was now a private house! We wouldn't be very far from the new bungalow built in the golden Clipsham stone that looked nice from photos and was for sale, so I thought we could see that as well. On the way we got diverted off the main road which was closed but found our way through some pretty villages we hadn't seen before. When we arrived at Brentingby down some VERY narrow lanes we could see the church tower above a high bank and high hedge above, but not the house part and there was nowhere to park on the narrow lane without it being too far for me to walk back so we carried on by. In the next village at Twyford we almost passed a remote little church behind trees and a hedge, but there was room to pull off the lane so we stopped and went to look. What a shame we thought as our eyes took in the tarpaulins on the roof where the lead had been completely stripped!!! It made us angry that, regardless of whether you are religious or not, some do not even respect these very old buildings that people have preserved for centuries. The door was open so we went inside where it was very dark and everything was covered to protect it and the floor with cloths to catch the inevitable leaks from the ceiling. We then met a lady from the farm we passed on 'cow pat corner' as she called it and she had come to lock up with an enormous key. She spent ages with us saying how the thieves had come 3 times over 18 months to get all of the lead and had stripped several other church roofs in the area as well. Being Grade 1 listed they cannot use cheap options for the roof so the building deteriorates why they struggle to find the funds!! They are determined it will open again though and have some good ideas to use the building for other purposes too once the roof gets done.

He has learnt to multi task. In a way looking after you and the wound probably comes easier to Chris than it would to my OH.

Jane Report 21 Jul 2019 18:29

Ann I think pain more than blood even though it bled a lot. Chris did the mopping and dressing . He had his Drs hat on :-D. I remember fainting a couple of times when I first started Nursing. Once was when I was trying to get a big needle for Kidney Dialysis in someones arm . I thought I was doing fine and then just suddenly came over all faint. The other time was seeing a patient with a Tracheotomy trying to speak.

I wear long trousers all the time when out Ann ,but they still dont cover the top of my feet. Long summer dress at home when it is hot .I just can't wear anything that is tight over the wound . The swelling is going down now thank goodness but it is so itchy around the wound and `i want to give a good scratch . I know it is just the healing process but have to keep my nails well away.

Dinner almost ready now. Chris has swapped his Drs hat to a Chefs hat :-D :-D

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 21 Jul 2019 17:41

these men can't stand the pace can they? Was he fainting from the pain or the sight of blood. Never mind Mummy make it better :-D :-D sorry, shouldn't laugh really.

Yes, I will eat the baby broad beans because they are not strong but I never buy them even though OH likes them Lol!!!

I assume to wear either trousers or a long skirt over the stockings Jane so nobody can see how attractive you look.

Saw a lovely shrub in the GC this morning but it looked like it would be quite big it was a creamy white hydrangea but instead of round it was called something (can't remember) pendulous so the flower heard were sort of hanging down. Too big for our garden but it is apparently long flowering. And the flowers were beautiful.

We have just spent some time out in the garden tidying up after the rain battered everything down yesterday. Had to pull some of the large calendula out of the wild flower plot as they were choking the dahlias. And I grabbed hold of one that was hiding a stinging nettle ouch! Also spent some time dead heading the sticky petunias.

Jane

Jane Report 21 Jul 2019 17:17

Stubbed toes have to be one of the most painful things Frank. I remember like AnnG getting my toe caught under the gap of the bathroom door and I seem to remember I lost my toenail .

Broad beans are not my favourite veg either. I can eat them now but only if they are little. They used ot make me urge as a chld and I would try and hide them in my food. They smell horrible when they are being boiled and I hate the way the water turns a nasty colour. We have had a lot of Broad Beans this year and still more to come :-S. They are all in the freezer next to our Peas.

I think everyone having hip/leg surgery are givien these compression socks. I do think 6 weeks though is a very long time to have to wear them. It may be to do with this enhanced recovery programme. But I don't really know. I dont actually find them too hot to wear which is good seeing it is going to be boiling next week. The only bit I need to scratch is where I have indentions around the knees from the top of them. I will just have to grit my teeth and try and forget I still have a way to go with them. They certainly arent a fashion statement :-| :-|.

Oh my word next door has another really stinky BIG bonfire going. I can hardly see the bottom of the garden and Chris is down there watering the veg !!. He is going to pong .

No Thomas since 8 last night :-S :-S. He really does know how to get us worried.I have all these visions of where he might be. stuck down a rabbit hole, shut in someones shed/garage or even house. There may be people along the road who have gone on summer holiday and shut him in .Hopefully he will just turn up when he is ready.

Years ago when I was still living at home our cat Rudy was spotted sitting in the upstairs bedroom window of the house opposite us. The owners had gone away!!!.
I am not sure how long he has been shut in the house ,but my Dad had the good idea of trying our back door house key .It worked :-DSo Dad nipped in and grabbed Rudy and never let on to the people :-D :-D Fancy though our key fitting .I wonder now if it fitted the back doors of other houses built at the same time on our estate!

I really fancied some chocolate the other day and when in Morrisons I saw a pack of 3 Frys Turkish Delight for £1 .. I just had to have them :-D and I have enjoyed all 3 :-D Naughty but nice. The packs are much smaller than they used to be :-S

I am looking out at the smoke from the bonfire and now realise that our neighbours boths sides each have one.

Oh gawd !! James has just ripped a great chunk out of his little toe and managed to just sit down before he fainted !!!!!.
I have taken a pic of his toe but it is pretty gruesome to see. I will send it to anyone who wants to see it.Luckily I had a small dressing left over which Chris has cut down and put that on.

Afternoon all. Ooh Frank that is painful isn't it and always seems to happen when you have nothing on your feet. when our bathroom door is open (into the bathroom) there is a very small gap under the door and the number of times I have caught my bare toes under the door when in a hurry coming out of the shower. so I empathis with you. Dinner sounds good, haven't had roast beef for ages, however Ros can keep the broad beans, I can't stand them, or the smell of them cooking.. We have roast gammon this evening with new potatoes, carrots, brocc spears French beans, courgette and Mange toutes. Then raspberries and ice cream.

Annx that was an early post, have you gone back to sleep and not woken up again yet?

Mandy, nice to sit in the garden for coffee. It is nice here now but we went out to a garden centre this morning and had a heavy shower while there. No rain here when we got home though and it is 21 drgrees here now.

Mel, hope you can find all the bits you need for the show.

Jane
Ooh 6 weeks with thos stockings on, not nice at all. I don't think daighter's OH had stockings to wear when he had his hip done 2 years ago. Is it a new thing or a local one?

Vera, I don't blame your OH for trying to do without the tablets but it might have been better if he had cut down just a little first to see what happened. Hope he is ok today and managing his walks.

O Frank your poor toes. I know what thats like. Thats how I injured my right big toe but at least I had sandles on. I distoroyed the cartalidge in that toe and the toe dos'nt bend up now only down.

We've had our big breakfast and I need to wash up and then do a bit to this thing I am making as the show is next Saturday and things have to be in there Friday Night. I want to put my beaded tree decs in there and maybe my pudding pom poms but I only have two so I may put one of the little angels in with them like I made Mandy on the garland. I also have that beaded spider I made.

Jane it must be so nice to get those stocking off when you go for your shower. Mum had to have those on and she hated them.

Frank Report 21 Jul 2019 14:50

Good afternoon all,

I like you Ann had one horrible night (I won't say sleep, because I didn't) There was no way I could settle, I must have woken Ros many times, even though she didn't say so. I finally got up at 5.00 am and had a COT.

I again have spend a good two hours in the kitchen. I have podded a bag of peas and Broard Beans, as both Harvey and Ros love them. Personally I can't stand them. Done Runners, Cauli and Broch, baby carrots and Parsnips. Made the Yorkshire, and cheese sauce. We have a nice BIG piece of Beef, which I have seasoned and is ready for the oven later. Lewis has requester a TAKEAWAY, So Harvey is bringing a plate up. lol lol

So nice that Sanda is such a happy person. It must brighten yours and OHs day, having her around you, is such a HAPPY MOOD. Bless her Give her a hug from Uncle Frank. xxxx

Vera, Your oh is like me, I should take EIGHT pain killers a day, with the option of FOUR more if I am in pain. I have restricted myself to TWO in the Morning and TWO at night, with the odd couple if I need them.I really don't like taking to many, and get addicted to them. I take quite enough with blood thinners, corlestrol and other things totally 14 tablets a day.

Jane, you will be well and truly glad, to get those stockings off. I know when I had my knee done I had to wear them for a time. DO YOU get itches,?? and need a knitting needle to push down to scratch them.

MEL, (DAVID BAILEY) lol lol Those photo's are just great. Has the Bullfinch got a seed in his beak, ?? it certainly looks like it. I so envy you having so much wild life around you 24/7. I haven't seen our HOG for two weeks. I hope he/she is O.K. Apart from th Starlings and odd pigeon, that's our lot. !!!

Ros has been sitting here like a spare part, waiting for Carolyn to pick her up. They have now gone, to a woman's all day open party for Charity. She does them so often, they really get too much. I said to Ros, you aught to go, if only to say you have been. They won't stay long I expect. Then she is going back to Carolyns to help her cut out, and sew up strings of BUNTING to go round her garden wall, which is on the Corner of the High Street and Stoke Road. It will be for the Canal Festival in August.

After my kitchen choirs, I got showered and shaved. I always drape my towel over a chair in the conservatory to air off. Today however, I managed to TRIP on the threshold of the conservatory door, with nothing on my feet. My right foot is throbbing like a good 'un. So I expect some bruised toes later. :-( :-( :-(

I now have time to sit and have a cold beer and read my book in peace and quiet. I hope you all have a pleasant afternoon, and don't do to much. xxxx
