Evening All,

A dull start, then sunny all day here. OH has spent 3 hours on the garden and has finally agreed with me that the hoe is much easier for clearing small weeds!! I have one with the flat serrated edge that I always used at my old house. After 19 years on his hands and knees here, it's the best thing since sliced bread! What is he like!

Thanks Mel and Mandy for the info on the pillows and pillowcases for them.

Gill, OH was home the same day when he had his hernia done. He was silly and thought he didn't need all the painkillers, but he ended up with more pain so he did, so make sure Glynn takes what he should. I think he took a week's leave from work and then worked from home for a week and by then could drive to work as I know I didn't take him as I was still at work and he was working from Derby at the time. Fancy all 3 ops being the same week!

I think the cotton should be fine to re-cover the lampshades as long as you don't use any inflammable glue and watch what bulbs you use. I looked on pinterest and there are instructions how to do it and some are even using wallpaper. If you are covering over what is already there I would drape the material over first to check enough light comes through.

Jane I have wondered about a little 'foot' pool too! I think it's a good idea. My legs looked pasty in Cornwall last week! lol. Did you tell us what meal you had yesterday? You know how nosey we are!! :-)

I have been sorting OH's car insurance for him by looking on a few comparison sites. My word, they want to know everything except your inside leg measurement! That was something dad often said. I finally settled on the AA and saved him over £70 on his renewal so that was good. Next I need to sort the house insurance.

I used to have 2 Euphorbias, a tall red topped one and a shorter bright yellow Polychroma. I had a Euphorbia cactus too and all 3 had a milky, irritating sap. I don't have any now, but just touching the cactus spines would cause it to ooze the milky sap. :-0

That's good you got your scripts without more hassle Mel. Long may it continue!

That's good the pool is up and filling now Mandy. It sounds like your son could have done with a dip after getting hot doing it.

Vera it's horrid when your glasses have an arm that digs in so it will be good to get that sorted. Fancy the the security clip being in the box of pants and how daft to put it inside as you say! I wonder how many people have had to go back to get it removed.

SuffolkVera Report 1 Jun 2019 16:50

Hallo everyone

Isn’t it strange that all the operations seem to be in the same week? You will be able to compare notes.

It has been hot and sunny here today, though there is a bit of a breeze now and it is now overcast. We went into town this morning to get my glasses adjusted as the arm was digging into my head and I wanted to pick up a few oddments for our holiday. I needed some new underwear and found a box of 4 pairs of pants. Paid for them, got them home, opened the box and found the pants clipped together with one of those security devices which I can’t remove. How on earth is the customer or cashier supposed to know that the security tag has to be removed when it is hidden inside the box? So now I have to waste an hour on Monday going back to the shop.

I’m glad you got the hot tub going Mel. Enjoy :-). It’s never appealed to me but my daughter was keen to have one and today I got an email from her just saying “been and gone and done it” and attaching a picture of her new hot tub.

I am sure you will make a good job of the lampshades Gill. Many moons ago, when we were a bit hard up, I sewed pleated silk lampshades as an outworker. As I am not very good at crafts and they had to be right I shed many a tear over them. I worked like a slave all week to get my dozen finished in time and earn a measly £1. My friend did them as well but she was better than me and spent a couple of hours on two evenings to do them and was free for the rest of the week. After a while I gave up on lampshades and went on to sewing umbrellas and typing envelopes.

Has Frank posted today? I hope he is OK.

My youngest grandchild will be 13 tomorrow Don’t the years go by quickly. She is in the air cadets and they had a formal dinner recently. My son and his wife took her and bought her a dark green lace “cocktail” dress for the occasion. It was an adult’s dress but very suitable for her age and she looked sooo grown up. Gave me quite a lump in the throat.

Time to make a cup of tea I think, then prepare the veggies to go with tonight’s meat pie.

EDIT. I am glad Ann mentioned the Euphorbia sap Gill. I meant to do so but it went right out of my head. Wear gloves when you take it out and protect your eyes with glasses or goggles.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 1 Jun 2019 16:34

Gill be careful when you take the euphorbia out, Vera;s OH had some of the stem 'juice' go in his eye and had quite a poorly eye. Wear gloves and protect your eyes as they are very toxic. We have taken our two out and thrown them away now. We bought two Ostiospernums, a petunia we had not seen before, lilac and white striped, an orchid that was reduced to £2.99, a low growing sunflower and a red leafed Coleus, and OH wanted some long handles edge cutters for the lawn, I wanted a new small handled secateurs (got Wilkinsons reduced to £4.99 from £9.99), then I had bubbles fir Inara, and two packs of summer weight socks for me. one pack trainer socks the other ordinary but not elasiticated tops.

It sounds like everyone has nice weather but us, it's still cloudy but at least the rain has stopped now.

How lovely to sit in the hot tub Mel, I bet you feel great now?

OH will only be in hospital for about half a day Jane, I think he has to be there around 12.30pm and he was told he should be home by 7pm, so not to bad, the only problem is he can't drive for a few weeks or lift anything heavy, so no doubt he'll be really bored stuck indoors not being able to do much. He's an active man, so it'll probably drive him nuts. I mentioned something being stuck in the drum to OH but he said he thinks the belt has stretched so it's not holding the drum properly. I'll give the guarantee people a ring and get them out to look at it. At the moment it seems to be playing nicely, so hopefully all my washing will be dried today. It's a bit to warm to put the heating on, otherwise I would of put the washing on the radiators. How nice ton have a little paddling pool, that'll feel nice to pop your toes in.

Not long now then Mandy before you can all get into your pool, it sounds like you have the weather for it, hope it's stays sunny for you all.

How is your OH's PC now AnnG, is it fixed yet? What plants did you buy? I'm going to take a look for a couple of plants for the front garden when we finally get around to a garden centre. I've got two Euphorbia's but they both look brown and dead, so need taking out and replacing with something else. I'm not sure what I'm going to buy yet, I'll see what takes my fancy when I'm there.

Good afternoon all,

Sorry I did'nt come on this mroning but I don't know where the morning went. when I got up oh was in the tub. After a while he got out and I got in and had a good soak in the sunshine. It was delightfull.

Its really hot here today and I have been to Em's with the eggs but they were all out and then went down the shop for my paper.

Came home and had lunch and I am now sitting here at the pc talking to you without doing the washing up.

As to the V pillow pillow cases I have about four of them. The best one I have is the one mum bought years and years ago for my nan. I still have that pillow too. I bought one for oh some time ago and two covers for it from Damart I think but they were awfull. They were not cotton and had pop studs on them to do them up with. Nans one is like a normal housemaids pillow case with a flap at one end which is much more comfortable. So don't buy the ones with pop studs on them. I think it is much better to make them out of cotton sheets and very easy to sew up with the flap but make sure you make them big enough. I'll see if I can find mine and take a pic to show you what I mean.

The pool sounds a good idea Jane to keep you cool after your op. Fancy all these op's coming at about the dame time. It will be good for Jane and Fitz to have them about the same time as they will know exactly how the other feels.

Had no trouble at all with the scripts this week as they were there on Thursday but I picked them up yesterday.

I now have at least two big rabbits coming in the main garden and up the border. Oh says he is going to make me a big rabbit trap out of wire so I can catch them.

Quite a lot of high cloud here but sunny too and very warm. We went to the larger garden centre this morning after calling in to Tesco for a shared sausage bap and a coffee (I know we do know how to live. Bought quite a few more plants but a bit too hot to plant them at the moment. OH has somebody round trying to sort a PC problem so I am staying out of the way. Spent twenty minutes reading in the garden but it was a bit warm so came in.

Afternoon all,

Little bit overcast here at times but it's really warm out there today ,when we were putting the pool up it was really hot in the sun poor son was sweating so we had lots of cold drink from the fridge.
It's now filling up and usually takes a couple of days to fill ,we only fill up during the day as we don't like leaving the water going during the night ,we bought the salt to go in a few days ago ,i'm sure the children will want to go in next weekend if not before but the salt needs to go through the machine to make the chlorine fist .

Gill i don't now what magazine i was reading when i saw the lamp shade covering it might have been one at the hospital when Colin was having his physio ,they wrapped the ribbon from top to bottom all the way round it did look nice ,you could always use strips of lace ,i should think you would have t be careful not to have to high a watt bulb in though .
Not to long for OH to wait for his op then and it's worked out just right for him to do your mum's decorating before he goes in .

Jane i bet the wrapping was left on so they didn't get dusty but it must have looked very odd ,perhaps they were never turned on .

Ann you can get those v shaped pillow cases in Argos .

Oh got to go and see how the pools doing .

Gill, so OH's op is the day before mine and the same day as Fitz!!!!!. How long will he have to be in hospital? I think I am 3-5 days. You haven't got something stuck somewhere in the drum of the dryer have you Gill, like a sock or something ?
Sorry you have rain. I am just about to hang out more washing :-D. There is no breeze so I dont know how well it will dry.
There are so many bug things about ,like green fly .I think it is the humid weather .

Gillx Report 1 Jun 2019 13:25

I missed your post Jane, I was beginning to think I was talking to myself lol :-D :-D :-D

Fancy leaving the plastic wrapping on all the table lamps, I'd of been tempted to take them off. Maybe you're right and they wanted to keep them clean....a bit strange though. Half your luck with the sun.

It's been raining here so no going outside for me today. I'm having to dry the washing in the dryer but that is playing up, so it's a bit hit and miss on whether I'll be able to dry it all. I'll have to give them a ring as it's still under guarantee. The drum keeps sticking and won't go around, we've had this problem before and called them out, but it worked fine when they turned up, which is typical, but now it's starting to happen more often so they'll have to come out again by the looks of it.

It's very quiet on here today, where is everyone?

OH has just got the date for his operation, it's the 26th June. He was surprised it was so soon. Thankfully it's the week after mum goes away so we can still decorate her place for her.

I hope everyone is okay, I'm the only one who's been on here today, which is very strange :-S :-S

I am green with envy with all this talk of hot tubs and swimming pools !. I bought a tiny baby pool this morning just to stick my feet in if I can sit out after the op .I keep hearing of a heatwave !!.

Ann, I am sure they sell the cover for the V shaped pillow .I bought one years ago .They are a bit of a devil to get on if I remember .

Gill when I was in Canada I stayed in several relatives houses and in every house all the table lampshades had the plastic wrapping stuff on!!!!. I dont know why..I wish I had asked now .They looked as though someone had forgotten to take off the wrapping.Maybe to keep the dust off the shades? I dont know .It just looked a bit odd to me.

That was some feast you had Frank !!!. ,and you said you didnt have much appetite !!!!!. You are missing some hot weather here right now. I have my legs out :-0 :-0. Not a good look really but hey no one is going to see them in the garden .
Chris has just called me to the phone.I think it might be my friend in Cornwall . BBL

Morning all

Another cloudy day here but not cold.

You'll be able to go in the hot tub today Mel, that'll help your OH's aches and pains, I'm surprised there was a loose wire though, surely that shouldn't of happened. At least your OH has fixed it now so you can both use it.

So the swimming pool is being put up today Mandy, I do envy you, especially last year when we had the heat wave, I wonder if it'll be as hot again this year.

I've never covered a lampshade before so would be interested in how they covered it in ribbon Mandy, did they wrap the ribbon around the frame from top to bottom all the way around, I think I've seen someone do that before, but I can't remember if that's how they did it?

My concern is putting fabric on the inside with the heat of the bulb. The lining on the lampshades my mum gave me is breaking away so will have to come off and I don't know whether just putting fabric back on without the lining is safe. I'm always a bit wary of looking online as I've had people trying to hack into my laptop when I've done that, so if anyone know's the answer I'd be very grateful.

I was just going to use some pretty cotton Ann and wrap that over the fabric that's already on the shade stitching it at the top and bottom, but I don't know if that'll work, what do you think?

I'm going to have a bath now and get ready incase the fella's turn up to to the gate, OH has had to nip out for a few hours and I don't want him coming back to a broken fence.

Evening All,

Plenty of sun and a nice breeze here today so not so tiring.

Frank that was a meal and a half wasn't it! I expect you will be going back there again. :-) I bet the pups are getting stronger now and have their eyes open. Poor Lola, at least she only has 3 to cope with now and not 5! How are the bumps on your head now, going down I hope.

Jane do you know if you can you get pillowcases for those 'V' pillows? They sound a good idea for stopping you turn on your side at night. I think I would find it hard sleeping on my back too as I toss and turn from one side to the other a lot!! What did you have for your meal out today?

What a nuisance with the hot tub Mel, but you did well to spot the problem connection. I expect you have been in it by now, soaking all your aches away. :-D Mandy's suggestion of seats sounds good. Do they blow up too Mandy? Those little Pheasant chicks are so tiny and cute. I saw the ducklings in the next village again today and she still seems to have most of them. I got a few pics as OH stopped to post a letter.

Vera that was a scary ride in the mist! I bet you didn't relax till you got home. I hope your and your hubby's aches and pains are easing now. No-one liked riding with my dad in his car as his foot was to the floorboards whenever he could. Every time he came home from work with me, he did the ton down the lane from the village to where we lived midway between 2 villages. It was before the 70mph limit or seatbelts and if the car didn't manage 100mph, he would have the bonnet up next to see what was wrong!! I went with him to test drive a Jaguar once and the salesman just bundled me into the back as men would with women in those days. I was inwardly grinning as I knew he didn't know what he'd let himself in for!! Once dad took the wheel, he tested the car's capabilities and within minutes the salesman went quiet and I watched his hands slide down each side of the seat to grip the underside. They never moved and he never spoke a word more till we got back. I don't know how dad would have coped with today's speed limits. He passed his test in the army and taught people to drive tanks in India in the war.

The last time we had a Robin's nest it was only a couple of feet off the ground in a conifer. What a daft place as as soon as there were chicks a cat got them.

Oh Mandy, I expect the children will be wanting to come round as soon as the pool is up! Is Lewis ok with it now? I remember you saying he wasn't wanting to go in before but that was a while ago.

AnnG I took a few pics at the Botanic Garden, mostly the cacti, so will sort a few to send.

Gill, that was good your mum bringing you the lampshades. What will you cover them with? My bedroom one is looking a bit dingy now, but it just has a wire ring at the top and the bottom with a stiff plastic covered in material between.

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 31 May 2019 18:44

Well that was badness Mel ,what make is it ,i'd get in touch with the supplier and complain ,glad you got it sorted out once you get it heated up and you have a dip you won't want to get out :-D

Gill what are you covering the lampshades with ,it's funny you should say your covering one as i was only looking at a magazine the other day and there was one in there that had been covered in ribbon and it looked really pretty .

Oh Jane having to sleep on your back ,i remember Colin having to do that and he hated it as he always lays on his side so he found it very hard ,also he had to have a wedge between his legs too so he didn't cross his legs and put the hip out .
Hope you enjoyed your lunch did you have some thing nice today ?

We are putting the swimming pool up tomorrow ,son and DIL are coming to help we find it quite a job to do on our own now as the poles take some fitting together .

ITS GOING.

Oh talked to someone this morning and they said they would email him in 5 mins. We are still waiting but oh took the lid off the pump and there was a wire not conected. It had a little black clip each end and when he showed me and said could I see anything wrong and I spotted the connectors diconnected he said yes! He put them together put the lid back on and pressed the button and it is now heating up.

It's muggy here to Mandy and still cloudy, lots of birds in our garden today so that's nice to see. The new neighbours have gone out again, they're never in, which is good as it's nice and quiet for the birds.

You had a lot to eat Frank, it sounds a lovely place, will you be going again? Yes, I'll be keeping an eye on the fence when the gate goes up after all the breakages on our other fence. I'll be glad when it's finished and they've painted it then everything connected to us will be done and we can finally relax.

I'm the same as you Mel and don't like seeing one animal/bird kill another one, but I suppose it's the way it is in nature. I wish there was something I could do sometimes though when I see the Magpies attacking the smaller birds, but they are so high up in the trees I can't get to them.

I wasn't sure about the Blackbird AnnG, so thought it best to come in and leave it alone. I know they screech a lot at the Magpies when they are around the nests and it's very loud, but this one was only about a foot away from me so I didn't want to encourage it to come any closer.

Mum's just been to visit and brought some lamp shades around she said I could have, so I'm thinking of recovering them, then I can put them up in my living room and hall, she has a table lamp to match which she's also giving to me when she gets her new one. So that'll keep me busy for a while recovering them all, I also need to buy some cushion infills so I can make Sandra's cushion covers, I was going to take one apart that I bought, but it's a set of 4 and I want to keep them as they're all the same size and to big for Sandra anyway. She's been ever so good waiting for me to do them.....bless her.

I've just shown Sandra the video's Jane and she loved them, she thought the squirrel was cute :-) :-) She said to say thank you <3

Morning all,

Belated Anniversary wishes to you both Jane like the others I thought it was today too as your off out for a lunch , hope you enjoy the meal.

Oh dear Mel trouble with the hot tub, have you got a reset button ? If you have you need to reset it each time you turn the electric on to it , you'll also get e02 if you have any kinks in any of the pipes or you leave any caps on , I hope you can get it sorted as it should help OH'S aches and pain's ,if it's to low to sit in you can get little seats to fit in.

You had a nice feast last night Frank :-D sounds as if your enjoying yourself out there in the sun.

Bit cloudy here today and getting a bit muggy .
