Good evening all

It’s been a cold grey day with a lot of rain today. Not nice at all.

Mel I hope your car’s scuffs and scratches can be repaired without too much expense. It is annoying when that sort of thing happens. My OH had a coming together with another car last summer in Cornwall. The car that he managed to bump into was a Maserati - he doesn’t do things by half! We thought the insurance company would put our premium right up when we had to renew but it hardly went up at all.

I thought at first that your school term finishes very early Gwyn, but I’ve realised that, as Easter is so late this year, the bulk of the holiday is before rather than after Easter. Schools round here are breaking up on Friday as well.

Poor you Gill, you have had more than your share of being unwell lately. If you are still feeling poorly and your throat is no better tomorrow perhaps you should see your doctor ot at least have a word with the pharmacist.

Jane and Ann, it sounds as though you had a very enjoyable meal together. I bet you found plenty to talk about.

Jane, the degu is a rodent that is related to the chinchilla. I always think it looks like a cross between a rat and a hamster. You need to have at least a couple as they are social animals, so every time one of granddaughter’s died, she got another one as company for the one left behind. Daughter has said that when the next one dies they won’t replace her. Sad though it is, the last one will have to live alone until she dies too.

I’m not sure what sort of snake grandson wants. At the back of my mind I thought he mentioned a boa but I could be wrong about that. I’m hoping he’ll go for something like a corn snake.

Well, the enhanced recovery programme seems to be working for my brother and the surgeon is delighted as he is the first one in that medical department to be put on the programme. He was discharged from the hospital and sent all the way home by taxi last night. Arrangements were made for the district nurse to call every day for the next four weeks or so and she duly arrived to check him over today. We have been to see him and although he is very tired and quite weak, he is not in much pain and is in good spirits. I feel reassured now I have seen him.

Going to have a cup of tea and a read of the paper now. Night, night.

We had hail showers all morning but only a few spots of rain as I left home. None in Bideford bu t the same grey clouds with breaks in them when the sun tried to come out. Its been very cold though if you were in the wind. Oh said it was too cold for him to go out and do anything today so it must have been.

Gwyn It sounds like you had a wonderfull day with your children for Mothers Day.

Jane I'm pleased you had a lovely day out with Ann and Fitz. That was'nt very adventurous having a burger, did'nt you fancy anything else on the menu? The cod sounded nice though. Was'nt that necklace lovely with the blue stone. She's such a clever girl our Ann.

Whats this about ...no news. Hav'nt you heard yet or what???

I'm having beans and egg on toast tonight, its just what I fancy. Wore one of my new pairs of jean today and I had to keep pulling them up. I'm either losing a bit of weight or they are bigger than my old ones or have more stretch in them.

Must turn the oven on for oh's bargees and bread.

Late Afternoon Everyone

Well we all had a lovely time today.Great seeing Ann again %3A-D. She brought along that beautiful necklace she made with the big blue stone. It was stunning and the stone is so much prettier that it showed up in the pic. It was wonderful.

Frank,we went the The George at Great Oxendon on the road to Market Harborough. The garden there was looking lovely and green with Spring Flowers and avery nice row of Standard Red Robins.
I think Ann and Fitz enjoyed their meal more than me. My starter of Haddock Goujons was really tasty but the Burger i had for the main was rather dry and had CHILLI in it.My face is still hot now %3A-S.I have a big glass of iced water to drink too %3A-D

Ann and I had a bit of a shock when we went to the Ladies. We were washing our hands (one of those taps where the water just comes out when you put your hands underneath) and then all of a sudden there was this roar and very fierce air to dry the hands. I leapt back as just for a moment I wondered what on earth it was LOL .I saw the name on the taps was Dyson ! %3A-D I could have even dried my hair with the blower %3A-D
So we were there for a good 3 hours and had a very enjoyable time %3A-D

That was nice Gwyn to have met up with your 3 for Mothers Day. How lovely to see the little Lambs. The are so funny when they decide to have a good gamble %3A-D

Mel I hope that there is not much work to be done to sort out the scuffs and marks on the car.Thank goodness there was not any worse damage.

I think I might just go and have a nice bath as I dont have to do any cooking tonight %3A-D Chris and James will sort themselves out.

Mandy ..no news.

After the rain this morning the sun came out just as we left the Pub sand it is still a bright evening. But a bit on the nippy side. Did I hear there could be a bit of a frost tonight?

We have a few violets in the garden but they don't seem such a strong colour as they used to be or smell like they did. these are all self sown, some get pulled up like weeds because they are always in the wrong place. If they have flowers on I don't pull them out, it is just when it is the leaves among other weeds!!

Good afternoon all

Typical April day here with sunshine & showers i'm expecting to see a rainbow soon the way the sky looks. at the moment.

I hope Jane, Ann & Fitz have an enjoyable meet up and have a good lunch and chat. Will be nice to hear all about it..

Good to spend Mother's day with your family Gwyn, which Romney Marsh Inn did you eat in, we go to the Pilot Inn for Fish & Chips and another very old Inn on the Marsh the name I can't remember off hand. Romney Marsh and Dungeness along with the little railway was a favourite place to visit when we are down that way.

Frank lets hope you can get a reasonable quote for your travel insurance as you definitely need it.

I watched he Repair Shop yesterday and the elderly man having his little radio repaired had me in tears it was so touching as he was missing his late wife so much. Just going to watch today's epidode

Aunty Joy who lives in Bideford used to send mum bunches of primroses from the farm in Buckland Brewer, by post every year and they arrived ok too.

I too used to buy bunches of violets for mum for mothers day. You don't see those much now do you?

I have found in the pots down by my shed and on my strawberry barow two white violets and potted them up and have them on the patio under the fairy fountain. Funny Anne should mention white violets. I have a small mauve one in the lawn I spied while scattering hog food the other night but the most I have is down on the bank behind our tiny wood south facing. There are quite a few there. I must try and sew more there when they seed and perhaps some white ones too.

Afternoon all, Just popped out for the paper then a quick run round to the local garden centre looking at trellis, bought a few bits and came home, we have just remarked that the air and wind is so cold it feels like hail is on the way Mel. Really very cold.

Gwyn how lovely to be with all your family on Mothers' day. Makes me feel even more down as our daughter said yesterday they are thinking of moving further north in the Lake district, which is where her new husband comes from. That puts at least half an hour on our journey which is already 4+ hours and which is already proving a bit of a strain for us. so we will see even less of them then. I do so wish she and her late husband had never moved from Hampshire, that used to take us an hour and threequarters at most.

I remember once when I was about 18 and we went to stay with OH's Dad in Buckfast in Devon, we walked up the lane to Holne and the banks were covered in primroses. I picked a large bunch and wrapped them well and packed them in a cereal box and sent them to my Mum in Fareham Hampshire. She got them the following day in perfect condition. that was spring 1959. Thinking about that they would be dead by the time they arrived these days. My Mum also loved violets and I used to buy her them for mothers' day.

Morning all,

Sunshine and white clouds and then the wind blows over grey clouds and showers of rain. The wind is really cold too.

Robby has been feeding his wife on the decking and I have been trying to get a pic but I am just to slow the capture the event of the beak open and him popping the worm in.

Have a lovely lunch with Jane and Fitz at the new place Ann and we want to know what you all ordered.

Gwyn, we used to go and pick primroses in the spring and bring bunches of them home. The gypsys used to come around the houses selling buches of primroses with their leaves wrapped around them and sometimes little baskets made of hazel twigs with a primrose planted in them in moss.

WE have hailstone now so no wonder the wind is so cold.

Going back to the primroses, when I first lived sown here we have loads of primroses in the little wood just outside the wall and I used to pick them and do them in the little bunches wrapped in their leaves and sell them in the market in Bideford. They were always greatly received and snowdrops too wrapped in ivy leaves marked up as "Fair Maids of February". It took me ages to pick and bunch those but I did enjoy it. 15 to a bunch and I used to take about 20 bunches. People would buy them in two's.

We used to have a Nature Table at scool and I always remember taking in Sticky Buds to watch the leaves come out and the promiss of many conkers to come in the Autumn.

Must get on as its shopping day and I am all behind today like a ducks tail.

Good morning to all my dear friends,

Rain here, I watered the front garden, the pots and baskets down the drive, the patio, and the greenhouse and the seeds I put in. I had just put the sprinkler on the garden, when it pack up.So I have ordered a new one this morning. It was only a cheap one, so the saying is right. "BUY CHEAP BUY TWICE" I was so pleased I did the lawns as well yesterday. The rest of this week doesn't seem very promising, weather wise.

We have the HOG around as well. He has left a trail down the drive, and on the patio, dirty little devil. lol lol

Thats a pity about the little knock on the car Mel, will yours need to go into the paint shop for repair, or can you polish it out ??

Ros has just had a delivery, from QVC a pair of white slacks, they look very nice on her.Our postman ADAM, who delivered the parcel, said to me "YOU flash GIT" he saw me yesterday in the car with John and we gave him a blast on the hooter.

Nobody has taken me up on the offer of snowdrops. I offered some to Adam, but he's not a gardener, and thought they were SPRING ONIONS. I said you can eat some if you fancy them !!!! %3B-%29 %3B-%29 %3B-%29

Ros had a very long conversation with Julia yesterday. They plan on meeting up in Milton Keynes soon for a day out. Now that she is retired, she has a lot of time on her hands, and I think she is bored. She had a responsible job in schools, organising the schools finances. She was made redundant a couple of months ago, and install being paid until September. She will be off to their holiday Caravan in the south of France quite soon, and will stay there until Harvey drives down and picks her up in August/September.

You all seem to have been treated well by your children. with flowers and presents. Poor Sally (Simon's wife) was working. Not sure what her hours were, but didn't allow her time to spend time with her children.

I had another terrible night last night. I just couldn't be bothered sitting watchingT.V. so went to bed to read. I finally came out at 11,00 pm to say good night to Ros. I slept until 3.45 am and was then wide awake. I had no intention of getting up at that unearthly hour, so laid staring at the ceiling and the curtains. Finally got up at 6.15 am Made my tea, took my tablets, and prepared a Chicken Casserole for tonight.

Denis and Pam have had Three new windows put in the side of their bungalow, two in the kitchen and one in the bathroom. I wouldn't have thought they needed replacing, as they looked in very good condition and were the plastic, doubled glazed ones. More money than sense, comes to mind %3B-%29 %3B-%29

Hope you enjoy your meet up Anne and Jane, I see Fitz is going also. Where are you going ?? One of thee days, I will surprise you, and come along to meet you Anne. !!

Carolyn will be picking Ros up shortly, for their mooch around the shops, and garden centre. She has her vouchers in her bag, so I expect there will be more bits for the green on her return. Carolyn has just pulled up.

I am going to get myself something to eat and a coffee, so will try to get back later xxx

Gwyn in Kent

Gwyn in Kent Report 1 Apr 2019 23:48

Good evening everyone.

Only now I'm having a quick skim through this thread. I've had another really busy day, either at school or shopping, so I've not had time to myself.
Yesterday I went for a lovely pub lunch on Romney Marsh with my three children. It's always great to meet up all together. On the way, we saw some really young lambs. They are so cute, especially when they get just a little older and go off all together on mad chasing games round the field. Traditionally lambing locally is around end of March beginning of April, so soon there will be more lovely sights as we journey around.

Jane,
I remember country walks to pick wild flowers. Little violets were favourites and we were particularly thrilled if we found a few white ones in the hedgerows. Mum had a special little vase, which they always went in and had pride of place.
Later, I can remember buying a small bunch of flowers from a market gardener. She was lovely to young children at Mothering Sunday and kept a supply of simple little cards, which we could write to include with our posy. Often she would go out and freshly pick a few extra flowers, so that we had a lovely gift to give.

Yes, insurance is not worth taking a risk about.
My friend had a heart attack, when abroad and couldn't fault the way she was looked after. She was hospitalised for a while abroad, her husband being helped to move hotels, so that he was closer for visiting. Once well enough to fly home,on landing, they were met at the airport by a UK doctor, who gave my friend a medical check and then accompanied her home to inside their home, where she was checked again on arrival, observed for a while then given a final check before doctor ensured she could be left.

Another busy week, but school term finishes this Friday, so maybe next week will be less frantic. If it's fine, the garden could benefit from some much needed attention. 3 cornered leek is trying it's best to take over. We never used to have any, but once 'in' it seems difficult to get rid of. The flowers look pretty, but that's about all that can be said in favour of this invader.

Evening all

I had some lovely Mother's day presents yesterday, lavender tree from Paul, flowers from Richard and Mark sent me a M&S voucher I had them all round to Sunday roast which was beef and all the usual veg etc, Mark being in Hastings of course wasn't there and because of his Aspergers much prefers his only company, sadly

I can remember when Abbie had a snake she had a photo on face book with it wrapped round her arm, she had a different boyfriend then and he kept it at his house along with a lot of reptiles.

Loved the photos of Robbie Mel are you expecting babies soon?

Vera that is good news your brother is home now much more peaceful than hospital.

Mandy another cute unicorn toy for the girls I wish I was that clever [I have trouble getting motivated to sew on a button]

I haven't got used to the clocks going forward yet not helped by the fact Ruby wanted to got out in the early hours and after doing a wee decided to chase one of our cats and I had to go at the top of the garden with a torch to get her back in again, so I haven't felt too good all day. I did water the garden I didn't realise that rain was forecast for tomorrow

Frank that sounds like a hair raising car ride, reminds me of Top Gear when they show off for the cameras.

Evening All,

Yes, it's best to have travel insurance so it's good you have decided to get some Frank and not take a chance. It would be such a worry if something happened and you weren't covered. I get free travel insurance, breakdown recovery and mobile insurance through my bank account, which is also free, but the travel insurance ceases at age 80 so I shall have to shop around too then! So you got your spin and in a Ferrari as well!! I would have loved that, especially if I could drive it!! It must have cost a lot, as you say, but I bet it purred and had slick gear changes with all that expensive engineering that would have gone into it. %3A-%29 I would think the insurance for it would be eye watering too. I bet folk you were passing were looking to try to see if you were a 'celebrity'!! lol. Was it Rowan Atkinson that wrote his off?

Jane and Fitz are meeting me at a new place this time Mandy, so I shall have to keep my eyes peeled and set off a bit earlier, as I don't know the area. You did well splitting a big grass as they are really tough to divide. I think I have resorted to a pruning saw in the past.

More good news on your brother Vera if he is well enough to go home. It will be much easier for you to visit him too which is a great help.

Oh no Mel, I bet your OH was annoyed at doing that. It is so easy though as cars go far too fast in car parks and appear from nowhere. Hopefully the other car's owner will think the damage too small to bother with.

I've done nothing but yawn all day so I think I shall be off to bed now.

Yes, Mel Sandra's birthday is on 28th April, she's starting the countdown already.....bless her. Back home now and had a cuppa. We went past Brookes Nursary on the way home and noticed it had changed to Homeleigh Garden Center so we popped in to have a look as I wanted to see if they still had the Bonmarch shop in there. Oh said he would buy me another pair of jeans for my birthday and I liked the pair I bought in there and they had the 27" leg fitting. He bought me two pairs, navy and blue deneim. I also bought some little plants I wanted, Diacias and Nemesia and two tom plants and some spray for the new chicken house. On the way out across the car park I found on the ground a Fitbit, showed oh and said I woud take it in the shop incase someone asked if they had it. Oh said he would drive round and meet me outside. He was'nt there so I walked back to where the car was parked and he was talking to a man with a BIG 4x4 type VW. He's only hit it backing out!!!!! There was hardly a mark on the VW but the man said it was'nt his so we exchanged names and addresses. To be honest I think it was more that he hit oh as the mark on his car would have come out with a polish where as my poor little old girl has a big black mark on her behind and some of his white paint.

Vera, I think when we did this insurance OH was in a hurry and we were already with the same insurance company and never had a problem with them, just renewed it each year. However because we were taking out a single trip one the girl insisted on going all through the application form again not just copying over as nothing as changed. He tried to tell her (as they always noted before) that, despite me being on BP meds my BP had not been high for at least 18 years as they regulated it. And also the statins our cholestrol is not high it is regulated. I do also have the basal cell carcinomas (rodent ulcers) that I have had removed over the past 10 years. Each one has been benign and caused no further problems once removed. And even if they flare up they are not likely to make me end up needing medical attention until I return home. OH has a hernia, but he was told he didn't need to have it operated on but that apparently is still a risk that costs money. To be honest we have always gone with this company because our son is quite high up in one of their other divisions (i.e. not life insurance),We know that, should we have a problem he would be able to help us sort it out. did you mean that with low risk European Spain isn't included so you had to pay extra. Seeing as mostly when we go abroad it is Canaries or Spain!!!!
Great that your brother is going home, I think the general thinking these days is that people recover more quickly at home.
Ugh, snakes, no, no ,no!

Mandy going by the forecast I think this is the last of the sun, it is lovely and warm in our garden.

Jane, glad you had a good lunch and enjoyed your day yesterday. I do like Cambridge although it is about 30 years since we were last there. When we lived in Bedfordshire it was a short journey.
Ye children today don't know the simple pleasures of picking flowers for their mums do they?

Wow Frank that was a fast drive, a bit naughty of him and a good job nobody did something unexpected.
I hope people are sensible and thoughtful about the snowdrops, you always get some who are greedy.
I am pleased to hear that you will take insurance very sensible.
such a nuisance when you want to dry washing and bonfires are lit isn't it? I could smell one outside just now but it wasn't close by.

at about 12 the sun came out and this afternoon it has been really warm out there so I have done quite a bit of weeding and tidying up, pulling out the dead bits from grasses and, with OH tackling the mass of celandines that have suddenly spread over the garden. Pretty flowers but a bit of a pest.
