I hope frank has'nt taken anymore of those tablets he took the other day. He's got Biggles with him still I think.

I am watching David Bowie on the telly.

Anne Report 9 Feb 2019 21:03

The weather was better today but still windy, I can see why your OH moved the ladder it could have caused a lot of damage if the wind had blown it over, Gill. Hope your sore throat soon improves, ice cream is about the best thing to eat.

Your school uniform sounded the same as mine AnnG I also had to wear a school tie. There isn't a lot of differences in our ages as I was born in December 1938 so we must share a lot of History eg rations etc, You certainly have a nose for bargains, it is a shame when some of thel well known and popular stores have now closed. Good that you found some red bubs too,

I do hope Hannah's fears are unfounded Jane and the tests can put her mind at rest, I expect you are concerned for her too, as my dear old dad use to say you never stop worrying about your children even when they are adults. Another favourite saying was it will all be the same in 100 years time plus worse troubles at sea as there is no garden gate

I would also like to see the loo with a view please, I don't like heights either one of my worst experiences was walking high above the ground on a glass floor I have a feeling it was in Durham cathedral but I may be wrong as it was a long time ago.

Still no news from Frank so unlike him so I hope all is well with him and Ros

Ann have you still got a red face? I too think you should have been made aware of it, but better than being in pain and it may not be that obvious to everyone..

Annx Report 9 Feb 2019 20:30

I did think about some camouflage makeup this morning Gill. I remember there used to be green powder for red patches! lol. It does feel less hot now so I think it is settling down! :-) You don't sound too good with your bad throat. Just try to get some rest for a few days and keep warm.

I have sat and sorted the drawers under the bed today and found yet another couple of tops I can wear so that was good. There's just the double railed wardrobe in there to do now with the shoe boxes at the bottom and shelf at the top! :-) Then I think the linen drawers in the hall are next. I'm ashamed to say I still have some tea towels and kitchen towels from when we moved here and a few could do with going to the dogs' home!

Being as the valve has cracked on my pressure cooker and they don't do the replacements anymore, I need to get another. I'm wondering about a halogen cooker, but must read up about them. A slow cooker is handy as well, but where do you keep all these things! :-S

O gosh my knees went weak just looking at the picture. I don't like heights and I don't think I could have sat on that loo with the window so close.

Gillx Report 9 Feb 2019 19:21

Yes, I did noticed you had no picture now Jane, it looks so strange. Looking forward to seeing the new one when you add it. Did you click on save before coming off the page, maybe that's why it's not showing if you didn't?
OH has just had to go around next door and move the ladders, they are over 10 foot tall and they left them leaning against the extension, if the wind picks up again there would of been a good chance of it falling onto our fence and tall Red Robin. He said it was very heavy, but it's now on the floor where it's safe.
Poor Hannah she must be quite worried, there's probably nothing to worry about but once she's had the ultrasound it should put her mind at rest, I'll keep my fingers crossed for good news. I found a lump a few years ago and it turned out to be a cyst, but I do remember how worried I was until the results came through, it's only natural isn't it?

More bargains again Ann G I really could do with going shopping with you, it would save me a fortune lol. Pleased to see you found the red bulbs you needed. Looking forward to hearing about your childhood memories when you have time to post some.

I haven't seen an update on why the parents were arrested for the fire, but I'm sure we'll find out soon enough.

Sorry to hear your face is still red Ann, have you got any makeup you could put on to hide the redness? Hope your headache has gone now.

The wind died down quite a lot earlier so I helped OH put the pot plant back up, hopefully the wind won't be as bad and the plant will stay put. I was pleased to see nothing underneath it was damaged.

I managed to have a little sleep but when I woke up I felt even worse, OH said he'd take me to the doctors but I think it might be a virus, my throat is very red but no white spots on it so I doubt the doctor would give me anything. It's only been a short time so I'll see how I go and maybe see the doctor if it doesn't get any better on Monday. OH bought some ice creams and some Angel Delight which is helping as I can't eat much else. I've got a few things on my mind at the moment, so it might be a bit of stress that's brought it on.

No Frank again today I see, hope all is well with him and Ros.

O Jane you seem to have turned into a man on your avatar.

I have been playing this afternoon with making the flying keys from HP.

The first HP film was the best I think and I could watch it again and again. At least there is no swearing or sex in it.

I member those gabadine macs. I hated mine too. Mine was navy and I had htose gym slips with the box pleates in them and I hated those too.

Jane I did'nt get the photo of the loo either so may I see it please?

Easy dinner tonight as we are having our usual fillet steak, brocc tips, mushrooms, onions and chips. A nice chilled bottle of wine to wash it all down with.

I took a pic this morning and I must send it. Will download it now and do it.

Bargains again for you then AnninG. You have been out and about.

Sam dos'nt really understand Harry Potter yet but George is into it and is reading the books. Tehy liked the candles though and thought they were great fun. Em asnd Ed had been to a 50ith birthday party last night and were both tired today. I think the boys stayed with Em's sister as Sam told me he slept in Harry's bed and Harry is Sophie's son.

I wrote this before lunch and forgot to post it!!! :-S

Just a quick note hope to be back later

This is the website for COOK.

www.cookfood.net

they are also on facebook

Unlike Wiltshire it's not a complete meal, there are main courses and puddings mostly. There is a lot of choice but you need to add your own choice of veg etc. They aren't cheap but when there is only Richard and myself now it makes life easier sometimes,.not like when there were 5 of us

Jane I guess you have not been on Genes long enough to remember when I posted a chapter at a time My Life Story. I think it was just before Mel started this thread. There were lots of childhood memories on there. Not got time now but I will put some on when I can get round to it. Yes School uniform from the age of eleven included the gabardine mac (I have a photo somewhere) with the beret and underneath the navy gymslip a white square necked blouse and navy blue knickers, long white socks and sensible brown shoes. (1951 I was eleven.)

Jane Report 9 Feb 2019 15:10

More great bargains for you AnnG today :-D. Is Debenhams closing down in Gloucester ?Or is is just a sale? Every good shop is closing . Just in our town we have lost M&S, Burtons,New Look, Smiths, I think Top Shop,I'm sure there is another one. The town is dying :-(... HMV though are staying .I never go there ! We do have Wetherspoons :-D. I haven't been in there for ages but it is aways busy .I can't see that closing down. I just hope Clarks shoe shop stays as I buy all my shoes there.

It's still blowing here but a bright afternoon. I have got washing in the tumble dryer rather than risk things coming off the washing line !!!!.

Gill good idea to leave that pot on its side for now .It is going to be safer as it is until the wind dies down. I really thought one of our Olive trees in the pots would have blown over ,but still standing at the moment
:-D Chris had the ladder out this morning to do some high level pruning .He said he came in for a minute but when he went back out the ladder had blown over.

AnnG do you have any childhood memories for us? I remember when I started Comprehensive School and having to wear a Gabardine Mac with a wide belt around the middle . I hated it. All school uniform was bought so big to last me!!!!! I would grow into it :-D :-D

glad to hear you are feeling better today Ann, worrying when you don't know what to expect and get a reaction. Hope OH's eye problem heals up on its own.

I thought both parents were said to have jumped to safety from the burning house so it is strange. Unless they were not telling the truth and were not in the house.I suppose we will know eventually. Neighbours all commented what a great Mum she was which is also strange now they have been arrested. somebody reported hearing an explosion so wonder if it is anything to do with that?

Annx

Annx Report 9 Feb 2019 14:55

Just saw your post AnninG. Those were some good bargains from Debenhams weren't they!! :-0 I see you got your red bulbs too.

Annx Report 9 Feb 2019 14:51

Afternoon All,

I didn't feel great when I went to bed last night, wobbly and had a headache but decided to eat something and a cheese sandwich was all I fancied, so the diet went by the board although it was weightwatcher's bread. I slept well but the headache lingered a bit this morning and the face is still very red!! OH said I look as if I've been too long on a sun bed. :-S Hopefully it will start to fade now and I do feel ok again otherwise. The knee feels so much better though. :-) We didn't go to eye casualty with OH's eye, but it is still pink so will get it checked in the morning when it will be quieter there with less delay being seen hopefully.

Poor Hannah, no wonder she is worried if she's been seeing young people in an oncology ward as well. I always had a fullness in my right armpit, the doctor noticed it too and it worried me before I had mammograms. It's best she gets reassured though as it won't help her with her work and revision if its niggling away and on her mind.

Be thankful Thomas isn't a Maine Coon Jane, my friend's ones have fetched a curtain and the pole down in their mad moments and shredded a net curtain! Their latest toy is a little pool full of coloured balls from B & M. They love it and she can hide treats in it for them to find.

Can I see a pic of the loo please?

How nice the Pheasants follow you to the food Mel! The Magpies are horrid when they find baby birds. The poor Pheasant chicks are so helpless as well. We get lots of Magpies by autumn and they have their nests in the high bits of hedge in the field at the back. They try to pull the birdproof mesh out of our gutters, peck at the Sky cables, windscreen wipers and tyres and try to pull the flashing off the brickwork above the conservatory. I wedge bits of slate between our rock edged flowerbeds to stop the soil washing onto the gravel and they pull it all out looking for grubs. I didn't know what a Golden Snitch was either. I think we just watched the first Harry Potter film.

I was wondering what was in Chicken Alexander too Anne? I like Dunelm bedding too and have some on the bed now.

I hope your throat feels a bit better today Gill. You seem to have more than your fair share lately.

I wondered if those parents had gone out and left the children on their own.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 9 Feb 2019 14:31

good afternoon all.

Ann that was very unusual not to have the side affects from the injection explained to you. I would mention that to your GP when you next go. Hope it has calmed down now.

I haven't heard of those Cook meals before either Anne although I do know about wiltshire foods as my Dad used to have them.

This morning we caught the bus in to town (Gloucester). Sunny and windy but not as bad as it has been and not as cold either.

Debenhams had a stock clearance sale on, everything under £5 unfortunately it apparently started yesterday so the best bargains had gone. I did manage to get a pair of Monteray shorts, pale grey linen type for holidays £1 instead of the original £28. They are a size larger than I wear but that doesn't matter because their sizes are smaller than usual and the waist has belt loops. Fine for holidays. I also got a lilac vest top for the summer also £1 original £7. They did have trousers and jeans but I really didn't need any of those. Oh and they had absolutely loads of red and white striped thin material trousers. Couldn't make my mind up if they were ordinary wear or pyjamas, my guess is the latter as there were also rather strange matching tops in the same material. (£3 each), not for me though the trousers would have needed at least 6 inches cut off for my legs.

Then we went to the little ironmonger and everything shop in the indoor market and got 2 red lights for the fire (one plus a spare) £1.99 each. I guessed we might get them there but didn't go yesterday because of the weather.

looked in M&S but couldn't see anything I liked today in there, een though we had a small voucher to spend.

Had lunch in Wetherspoons and came home.

Jane Report 9 Feb 2019 13:19

Afternoon All
Another really very windy day too here. I look like I have ben dragged through a hedge backwards :-S. I was going to wash my hair this morning before I went out but then thought whats the point with this wind.It does need washing though as my head is beginning to get itchy.I am still getting patches of psoriasis on my scalp which makes me scratch and it is so hard not to.
Sorry your throat has got worse Sandra. You seem to get a lot of bad throats. It must be your weak bit.Hopefully the medicine will help it be less painful and that it won't last too long.

I wonder if Ann's red face has calmed down this morning and that she has been able to go out .I am surprised though that the side effects of the injection hadn't been explained.

Anne, are those Cook meals like Wiltshire Farm Foods? I have not heard of Chicken Alexander before. What is that exactly?

I went to Tesco just now to have a look at the Cheese Counter and the rest of the things that are going, but it is all well stocked up and no reductions,so I didn't come away with any good buys. Just more Bird Food,6 bottles of wine, and veg. I forgot to get milk so James can get that when he goes out later.

Hannah rang this morning and said she is having an ultrasound scan on a lump under her armpit . She has had a little lump there for several years but there has been no trouble. I still dont think she has anything to worry about ,but she was a bit tearful :-( Chris thinks that because she has been working on an Oncolgy Ward for the last few months and seen lots of young people with lumps she is more worried .The Dr seems to think it is nothing and has probably ordered the scan for her peace of mind. She is also stressed with work and revision at the moment which won't be helping.

Gill, my Sister said she was on and off that toilet as fast as possible LOL even though she knew no-one could see in. I reckon even though the glass in the window looked normal it was probably one of those that can't be seen through from outside .

I have never seen Harry Potter film or read any books . It is just not my kind of thing . The boys are going to be thrilled wit hthe candles Mel :-D :-D

Yes i wonder what happened in that house where the 4 children died . Gross Negligence is what the parents have been charged with. The little boy who survived will now be in care.I just hope that being such a young age he will not remember this terrible tragedy . I am sure we will know more about what happened to cause this fire.I see that nearly £30,000 has been raised for the funerals for the children .Aren't the public just wonderful when it comes to things like this

Still looking for a new cooker. I have whitted it down to 7 now !. So this afternoon I will be spending time looking at each again on line . Bet I still cant decide :-S

Gillx

Gillx Report 9 Feb 2019 11:02

No I've never watched them Mel, at least I know what you're making now, so won't be so confused anymore.

Pleased to see it's not so windy at yours, I really don't like the wind, just the sound of it scares me. It's still quite breezy outside so the plant that got blown over is still on it's side and will stay that way until the wind has gone, otherwise will be picking it up all day.

Wrap up warm when you go out, you don't want to catch a chill. I'm going to have a lay down now as I feel rotten, the medicine didn't seem to do much, so maybe a little sleep will help.
I didn't sleep very well last night, so I'm tired now.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 9 Feb 2019 10:46

Morning Gill and all,

Not quite as windy today as it was yesterday and there is a little weak sun now and then but its still cold out there.

Gill if you hav'nt watched the Harry Potter films you won't know what I am making. Its in the films. Its a golden ball that has wings. I know you said Sandra dos'nt like the Harry Potter films so you won't know what it is if you hav'nt seen them.

The usual Saturday morning here. Go to the shop for the paper and deliver the eggs to Emm next door. I shall take them the candles today.
