O Ann its good to know your hips are ok but both knees needing attention is'nt that good. Good luck with losing a little weight. Have you eaten up all the Christmas chocs? I'm still working my way through mine. :-(

Did the shopping and its all put away and oh has a different curry for tonight and I am having two boiled eggs. So what I have had today is three small slices of brown toast and my mate and a cup of Ovaltine a mug of water and milk, two choc eclairs and a milky coffee and the two eggs and bread and utt butt tonight.

The daffs are still out at Landcross but I think someone may have picked some of them.
A neighbour at the top of ours where oh used to live has daffs out on his bank by the road.

My Snowdrops seem to be getting thicker now and when the sun shines some are fully open.

Do any of you watch on Quest Salvage Hunters? We watch it and it is surprising the things Drew buys. I keep thinking Iv'e got those!!!!!!! and the most annoying thing is he buys a lot of old angle lamps, some in wood and we were given one of those for the bell fund and oh burnt it when he cleared the workshop out.

Jane Report 22 Jan 2019 18:03

Afternoon Everyone
Oh Frank, I can imagine how concerned you are about coping with looking after both of you. I think Ann has given some very helpful advice there. Is Ros supposed to be coming home tonight? I was wondering if she might be kept in for this evening especially with your concerns. I am sure though that between your 3 friends that they will all rally round and help out as much as possible. It is a pity you dont have a spare room as maybe Carolyn might have been prepared to sleep over. I am sure Ros will be feeling so much better very soon though now she has had the extra stents put in.
Glad you managed ot sort out the heating and hot water. That was at least an easy job to do.

We had a flurry of big snow too Ann this afternoon but it didn't come ot anything. I am not sure if we might be due more snow overnight. It s flipping freezing though .Thw Woodburner is certainly getting lots of use at the moment :-D
I bet Mandy's neck will feel chilly now she has had her hair cut !!!. I am sure she will have had a big scarf or a hood to keep warm, although saying that I have a feeling that someone comes to the house to cut her hair.

Ann i had meant to ask you about Mrs Overall. She seems right as rain again now which is good and hopefully not a worry for her OH.
Fancy having a 'stolen ' dumped car in your close. For a little close there is always something going on there :-D
So 2 new knees are the plan !!!!!. Oh Heck !. I can see you putting this off for as long as you can :-D. But if they need doing they need doing. I am sure my Sister said to me that once you are a bit older (I am trying to be polite here LOL ) that recovery is much better than if you are quite young. Something to do with the muscles and healing better. As you know she is still in her 50's and has had 2 that have not really gone ot plan. I will ask her again what exactly she said and let you know.

No chips for you when we go out for our lunch ;-) ;-). I have booked our lunch there for next tuesday for Chris's Birthday. But I am still not sure if he is going to be up for it.
It is horrible seeing him so lethargic and low . It seems to be going on for ever.

I watched Silent Witness just now as I fell asleep last night part way through :-S,so I am determined to keep awake for the next part tonight :-D

Sorry to got no further with your Sister as to if she was home or still in hospital. How did she sound in herself? I did chuckle when I read what you said her answerphone message was :-D.. I bet that must shock a few people !!!.

Well its time once again to start cooking. But its easy grub tonight. Oven F&Cs for Chria and Me and Sausages and Sweet Potato fries for James. I dont really feel hungry as I had a Bacon Toastie for lunch. I spotted 3 rashers of bacon left over from the weekend and just fancied them :-D

Annx Report 22 Jan 2019 16:03

Glad you enjoyed your weekend Jane, but it was a shame Chris couldn't enjoy it as much. He's still sounds quite unwell. We didn't hang around after our lunch today as there was a lady opposite us with her parents and she hardly had a voice and kept on coughing and only occasionally putting her hand to her mouth and usually too late.

I saw a surgeon at my assessment and he quickly decided I need 2 knee replacements!! He suggested I go ahead and have the injection in my left knee to help in the meantime as I need to , as he nicely put it, 'tweak' my weight down a bit over the next 4 months and he will see me again! LOL I expected I would need to lose weight because of the anaesthetic, but I think it needs more than a 'tweak'!!!! LOL I think we were both a bit shocked and I'm not keen, not only because the recovery can be difficult, but also the later you have them done the more likely you are to outlive them needing doing again. I'm hoping in 4 months with less weight on them, I could delay it a bit. He also checked my hips as well and said they were good. I was surprised as they played me up a lot through the menopause.

We just had a flurry of snow here with big flakes and I thought of Sandra, but it hasn't settled.

Even more excitement, I heard a car toot and looked up the close to see an unmarked police car with blue lights flashing. It pulled up, blocking in an Audi that was left across the drive of Jean's empty bungalow. Two policemen got out and opened the doors of the Audi and took photos then wandered off up the close where I couldn't see. It looks like the car has been dumped there, although it wasn't there when I came back after lunch. Sometimes people come down the close thinking it goes through the new houses built on the field and onto the main road.

Mrs Overall was on the front when we got home yesterday so I asked her if she was ok now. Apparently she had passed out and they found she had high blood pressure and took her to hospital with a suspected stroke. She didn't say anymore as her taxi turned up to take her to the doctors then. I thought how lucky it was the weekend and her husband was at home when it happened. She looks the least likely to have high BP being as thin as a rake and always on the go, but I suppose there could be many reasons for it.

I got a reply from my sister yesterday, but she didn't answer whether she was still in hospital or not or my asking how she was now, just general chat about her sons, so I don't know what to think!!

Gillx Report 22 Jan 2019 14:41

That's what we're all here for Frank. Yes, I think you should ask the doctor for some home help as both of you need it now, although I'm sure Carolyn, Val and Pam wouldn't mind helping you both. Pleased to see everything went well for Ros today and wish her a speedy recovery. So all you needed to do was bleed your rads, I'm so glad you now have hot water and heating I was quite worried with it being so cold outside.

So it's hair cut day today then Mandy, I really should colour my hair again but it takes so long to do and it's not very warm to have wet hair for hours on end.

The snow didn't amount to anything in the end Mandy, it just melts as soon as it hits the ground so it's very wet out there at the moment. It keeps stopping and starting and the poor roofers are doing their best to sort the roof out. They have taken all the slate tiles off at the side of the bungalow and covered it with the waterproof felt that goes under the new roof tiles. I asked them if they'd like to come to ours to get warm and have a cuppa, they were so grateful as they were both freezing. I said to give us a knock if they want to come around to get warm again. I felt so sorry for them out there in the snow and rain.

Annx Report 22 Jan 2019 14:40

Afternoon All,

Chillier here today too and it's got colder as the day's gone on. OH has gone to the first of 2 meetings today after our lunch at Ullesthorpe.

Frank I think the Hospital would arrange intermediate care (free for the first 6 weeks) as long as Ros lets them know the position with you both. Otherwise you would need to contact Social Services. The link I found explains.

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/social-care-and-support-guide/care-after-a-hospital-stay/care-after-illness-or-hospital-discharge-reablement/

It sounds as if it was good she got this done now and should feel a lot better once she recovers. Best wishes to her.

Frank Report 22 Jan 2019 13:42

Just had a call from Ros. She has had TWO MORE STENTS FITTED, together with balloons fitted in her arteries. She can't drive for over a week and had a BIG protective sleeve thing fitted on her right arm. She is in a lot of pain. I just hope I will be able to manage to look after her, feed and wash her, and make sure she protects the right arm. Do I ring the Doctor to get home help ?? as it worries me, we both will be under such a strain, and have no-one to help out. There's only so much you can get Carolyn, Val and Pam to do.

I think I will put of the visitor for tomorrow, that's something we can do without. He can always call another week, and I am sure I can manage without his walking frame. As was suggested yesterday there is always the RED CROSS.

Sorry to load my thoughts and fears on you, but I know you will understand. xxx

Frank Report 22 Jan 2019 13:01

Afternoon all, I popped my head out into the lounge at 7.15 this morning. Ros was waiting for Carolyn to pick her up. Carolyn has since rung to say Ros is comfortable, and waiting for her treatment to start. One or other of them will ring when she will be coming home. The hospital were concerned that I was the only one at home with her through tonight.

I am still not feeling the best I have been. Still got a lot of discomfort with ribs and bowels. Taking the medicines, so thats all I can do. I have managed one movement but only a very small one. I suppose something is better than nothing. lol lol

I managed to sort out the heating myself. The towel rain in the bathroom was cold. so I stood a bleed it for 20 minutes, when suddenly Ros called from the bedroom that the radiator was burning hot. From there all the radiators got hot. There must have been so much air in the system, the HOT water came through the tap within minutes. SO all is good again.

I have had a COT and 3 biscuits. and feel totally full. At least I have had something.

Not caught up with the posts, SORRY. !!!

Morning Gill and all,

Dull and dreary here today so nothing new....... It poured last nigh so the grounds all wet again and the chickens will be paddling.

Hope Ros gets on ok today and I shall be thinking of her all day till we hear how she's got on.

Perhaps we wil also hear from Ann today and how she faired with her knee yesterday at the assesment.

Donkey day yet again. I don't know where the weeks are going and we are nearly through January already.

Gillx Report 22 Jan 2019 09:27

It's just started snowing, it's not heavy enough to wake Sandra up and it's to wet out there for it the lay, so I'll leave her asleep for now. The roofer has turned up, not sure how much work he's going to get done in this weather though.

Gillx

Gillx Report 22 Jan 2019 07:53

Morning all

Cold but dry so far today, although there is rain forecast for later with possible snow flurries.

Good luck to Ros hope everything goes well this morning. Thinking of her. Be careful Frank while she's out. Hope you had a better nights sleep last night.

How did your knee assessment go Ann? I hope it went well and you are okay.

Is Chris any better today Jane. It looks like it might go on for a while like it did with you. Hope he's feeling a little better today.

Have your girls laid anymore eggs Mel? How are they getting on with the others? It sounds like you're busy crafting again. I'd love to see some pictures when you've finished.

The roofer is suppose to be here today so I hope the weather isn't to bad so he can get on with the job. He told OH yesterday that he has lots of arguments with the boss (I'm not surprised) and if the boss has another go at him then he won't do the job. If that happens I don't know how long it'll take to have the roof done.

OH got up early to park the car on the road and so far no workmen have turned up. Yesterday there were workmen everywhere at 7.30. I hope at least the roofer turns up.

Nothing much planned for today, what is everyone else up to?

Gillx Report 21 Jan 2019 22:50

It's pouring with rain here to Mel, just off to bed now, both OH and I are shattered with being awake all night last night then only have 4 to 5 hours sleep during the day today.

NO Frank no going up in the loft. I hope you get your heating and hot water sorted soon.

Sandra didn't want to be outside to see the moon last night Jane as it was very cold, plus it didn't really start until 3.30am so she was well asleep by then. We started watching around 2.30 but couldn't see anything happening until an hour later when we saw a bit of the earth's shadow going over the moon.

When the clouds came over for 20 minutes we both went inside to get warm, then we were back outside to watch the rest of it. I'll never forget it. I've always wanted to see an eclipse and haven't been lucky enough to see one properly during daylight hours even though we went to Cornwall 20 years ago, as it's always been to cloudy, so last night was brilliant and I can now say I've seen an eclipse even if it was a lunar one not a solar eclipse.

Well, I'm off to bed now, see you all tomorrow

Frank Report 21 Jan 2019 20:20

No call from the plumber, so I will try to find a local one tomorrow, who can come and sort it out. No hot water or Central heating at the moment. Might just need the boiler to be restarted. I can't and won't get up in the loft to see. PROMISE.

Had a small meal tonight roast beef and trimmings, Ros not impressed with what I ate.

Will soon be in bed, as I feel tired and in a bit of pain with my ribs.
