Morning All,

Lovely sunshine here and 17 degrees here now. I have been out and spot weeded the nasty creeping weed on the front. It was getting all between the block paving on the drive too so it will be good to get rid of it. I must check when I go out if any is under where my car stands. I've noticed bindweed is creeping from next door as well as their ivy on the fence and the virginia creeper and their lilies of the valley are determined to make a come back despite OH covering most with a spare concrete gravel board and bits of slab last year. We've both done a bit more weeding in the back garden so that's it outside for us today as it's getting hot now. OH went for his short walk earlier and reported back that there are a few brown and white cows in the field at the back of us now, so I must keep an eye out for those.

Vera your daughter has made a great job of the table and it really looks good. It makes me want to come and have a cuppa there!

I like that prog too Mandy and some of the things they make out of what's being chucked away are fantastic. They get a lot of money for some of the things too. Thanks for mentioning that about your statins and I'll tell OH.

Mel that still sounds like a big job for today, but all your garden jobs are big ones aren't they. Sorry you had a bad night, but I actually slept well for a change. It doesn't sound like you will make any headway getting BIL to contact you before he comes. I can imagine OH saying we will just call on someone, but I like to let people know first.

Glad you slept well AnnG and are 'normal' again! It's a shame you couldn't go yesterday, but I tthink you did the right thing.

I'd better get lunch started next and the food delivery is later so I wonder how many subs this time.

Morning girls,

Lovely sunny morning here too and its 13 degrees and pc says cloudy but the suns shining and the clouds are only very light and white.

I'm pleased you got a good nights sleep last night Anng. I went to bed and just lay there and lay there I did'nt even look at my phone for the time as I knew it was well past 3am and still I was'nt going to sleep. Must have done in the endand up once and went back to bed so I had a lie in this morning and watched the clouds passing the windows. Don't think I tired myself out enough yesterday with not doing any gardening.

Must see if I can finish the road today on side at least.

Good morning all. It is lovely and sunny here too and already 10 degrees. I had a really good night's sleep last night. asleep by 1045, woke around 2 and then just after 4 but then slept until around 0800. So back to normal now I hope (whatever normal is!!) One or two small garden jobs to do but will no doubt find other things

Morning all,

Nice bright sunny morning ,I looked out in the night and it was very foggy .

Vera your daughter has done a fantastic job on the table, so nice to see a bit of recycling so something can continue to be useful , so much is just thrown away these days .
I like watching that programme Money for nothing where she goes to the tip saves three things to recycle them into something and reselling them for a profit and sometimes a lot of profit to give back to the person who was throwing it away .
She took a leather sofa away and a chap made some lovely bags from the leather.

We're going to have a lazy day today ,I do have a little washing to do but I'm not doing much else ,no roast today but haven't decided what we'll have yet .

Hope everyone had a decent nights sleep and you all have this nice sunshine today .

I didn't feel too bad all day and still managed to get a few small garden jobs done. I do hope I can stay asleep tonight. It is more tiring waking and sleeping than staying awak all night.

Thanks for the table photo Vera. your daughter has done a great job ther the table is very attractive.

My goodness Annx, I shouldn't think OH knows whether he is coming or going with being told one minute to take his statins and the next not to take them and having to book blood tests and scans. It's enough to send anyone's stress levels soaring. At least he is happy with the teeth so that's one less thing to worry about. Thanks for mentioning replacement slats for vertical blinds. We have verticals in our lounge and OH's bedroom. They were made by a local company and it's useful to know that I could approach them to just replace an odd slat or two if I need to. We have roller blinds in the conservatory and kitchen and will probably go for rollers again when we get around to it.

I've carried on today with spring cleaning the kitchen and at last all the cupboards, drawers and shelves are cleaned and sorted out and most of the paintwork is washed. I've just got to wash the paintwork round the windows and clean them and have a clean of the fridge and freezer. They are the tall American type and are self defrosting so don't take too long to do. Then I'll have the joy of moving on to the utility room. I'm determined to get round the whole house sooner or later.

Either tonight or in the morning I'll email you a picture of a garden table my daughter has just refurbished. When I retired from work 18 years ago my boss and his wife bought me a really good quality wooden garden table with 2 chairs with arms. When we moved here in 2013 we didn't have room for everything so we gave them to our daughter along with some other garden furniture. Eventually they got past their best and she found the legs were starting to rot a bit so she reinforced it all and turned the hexagonal table into a round one, painted everything willow green and made a design on the top. I thought you might be interested to see what she has done.

I hope you are feeling better now AnnG and that you sleep well tonight.

Evening all,

The day is finishing with a bit of sun but it's been quite a cloudy day and chilly again .
I pricked out my cucumbers and toms into bigger pots and they stand in the conservatory as I think its still chilly at night to have them outside ,last night it was only 4 degrees , tomorrow I want to prick out my Cosmos and Calendula ,my sunflowers are getting taller to and I think something has had a chomp on one of them but I did have them on the floor in the greenhouse .

Anng I hope your feeling a bit better now ,shame you had to miss your outing today but better to stay at home if your not feeling to good .
I keep meaning to ask if the cat is still coming round .

Ann that was a good idea to tape the window switch it would be so easy to forget yourself and press the button and be in a right muddle if it didn't go up again .
That's good OH is happy with his new teeth .
Let's hope stopping the statins will stop the pain ,I have blood tests to test my liver because of taking the statin each day and they have affected my liver slightly .

Doh what a twont I am I did think of wordworth with the daffs but could'nt think of what it was called I knew I wandered lonely.... and I should have known Tulips fromn Amsterdam sung by Max Bygraves.

AnninGlos Report 26 Apr 2025 13:48

Vera you are right T was in the RN from 1955 to 1968, he could sing hearts of Oak with gusto. But it was not that one.

OK Mel you could see McCavity (Because McCavity was a ginger cat and very tall and thin, and whenever crimes were discovered, McCaverty was not there..
The tulips were tulips from Amsterdam
The daffodiles Wordsworth's I wondered lonely as a cloud
The red wine was Red, red wine
And the oak tree (I gave you a clue,) I said it was an old oak tree. Tie a yellow ribbon. round the old oak tree.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 26 Apr 2025 13:03

My thoughts were Red red wine, Heart of the oak like Vera and over the rainbow for the tulips and I wander lonely.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 26 Apr 2025 12:55

Just a quick hallo as OH is making us a lunchtime sandwich right now. Sorry you're not feeling brilliant AnnG. You're probably wise to stay home today. HoH was Heart of Oak. With my weird logic I could see the hollow leading in to the heart of the tree. It is also, of course, the Royal Navy march and at the back of my mind I had an idea that your T was a Navy man, but I might have misremembered that. We used to sing it at school but the words might be considered not politically correct these days.

OH is calling. Might be back later.

I have asked him to send me a essage but he never does. I think he was here so many times as he was trying to get the new mower right after breaking the shaft on the sweeper. He sorted that but now he can't get the deck to cut straight its cutting lower one side. I think too he goes over the moor to take some photos and then comes here afterwards. He meets a friend over the moor who he shares a drone with. He got another shot of the white pheasent the other day too but said it was out of focus a bit so has'nt sent it to me yet. She seems to be somewhere up the top by the old workshop. thats where I have seen her a couple of times.

As to your pics Anng I think I got three of them but not too sure if they were right. I got the wine one first I think.

Morning all,

Arose at 5.13am for the loo and went back to bed and then could'nt sleep for a while but dropped off eventually and woke again at 10 11am so I had a good sleep in the end. Must have been all the road scraping I did yesterday and pushing the big trailer out of the way by the side of the chickens run.

Not read all yesterdays posts yet so must go back a page and see what I missed.

I have decided not to go. Feel really weary and just don't feel right. so not worth going for the sake of a £10 ticket in case it is a bug.. sorry to miss lunch at one of our favourite restaurants but there will be other days.

AnninGlos Report 26 Apr 2025 08:04

Good morning all, a bit grey, still dry but 9 degrees and no rain very little wind.

I had one of those 'hourly' nights, sleep an hour wake for the loo repeat. So feel a bit off. supposed to be going to town. It is Gloucester History Week and several of us are going to an hour long talk by Bendor Grosvenor at blackfriars Priary It is on the history of British Art. He is part of the team of Fake or Fortine. Hoping I feel more like going in a couple of hours.

Vera what were you thinking with HoO I can't get that one but you got it right anyway.

Ann good that OH is happy with his teeth now, and that he is eating more comfortably.

did you emjoy your meal last night Mel?

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 25 Apr 2025 22:04

Ann it is an old oak tree if that helps and it is red wine in the glass.

Annx Report 25 Apr 2025 21:00

Evening All,

Sunny and no wind here today. The weedkiller came that's for the nasty weed today, so I'll be testing it tomorrow!

OH has had medication for reflux for some time AnnG and I get it sometimes if I eat later, which I try not to do anymore and as Mandy said some foods can cause it. What I do now is keep a packet of Rennies handy and just one sucked till it dissolves usually neutralises the acidity in about 20 minutes. Like you I sit up too. It's a really horrid feeling though so I sympathise and hope you have a better night tonight. Thank you for the photos and I couldn't get the wine one either or the hole in the tree one. No I daren't try my car window again in case I can't shut it with it being electric. The garage suggested me taping over the switch so I don't use it till it's fixed, which I did this morning as it was a good idea.

yesterday after OH went to his dentist for impressions for teeth to be added to his plate, we were having a coffee at Costa on the way back when he had a call from the doctor's receptionist to say a GP wanted to see him that day at 2.30pm about his blood test. Well that ramped up his worry and anxiety straightaway as he only had it the day before. A few minutes later he had a call to book his liver scan for Monday at yet another medical establishment, but not in the city which is good. The first thing the doctor said was that she'd been reading his notes and that he'd certainly been through the mill lately. She wanted to examine him again as his liver test was a bit worse than last time but could still feel nothing. She asked him all kinds of questions, weighed him and he hadn't lost anymore weight. I'd said to ask about the double dose of statins he takes since the cardiac arrest, as I know they can affect the liver. He had to stop the much smaller dose he was taking last year, as he thought they might be causing his pain. The Dr didn't think they were the problem and said she'd ring him later after she'd had a discussion with another doctor. The surgery called him again later and said to stop taking the statins!! Then they rang yet again to tell him to book another blood test in a week, so I imagine they are wanting to see if the statins are the problem. This morning he was back at the dentist to have his denture fitted and he is so chuffed as it fits perfectly and he looks and speaks just how he used to, so that was good. He's eaten well today and been for a walk and done a bit more in the garden with me. I think our cutting right back on inflammatory foods is helping his back as, although he has to be careful with his back, he is sleeping better and not needing painkillers as often.

Mandy I wasn't sure about those rails in the chapel bedroom either. For one thing we'd need more rails than that and the tops of my clothes get dusty inside the wardrobes, so it must be worse with them in the open like that. No I wouldn't want everything on show either. I'm glad you got your potting table in the end. It will make it easier now you can set things out when you are doing it. I like the sound of the kits you got to make after your rabbit! :-) I must check out Lidl's and Aldi's plants as the geraniums you told me about before were really good.

Gwyn it was me that asked after your swans and I wondered about them again the other day, as the ones we saw here in two different parts of the river seem to have disappeared again now. It is a shame there is just one left without it's mate. I didn't know so just had a google and apparently they will often find another mate if one dies, so if that's the case, I hope the one you see will soon be two again.

Mel can't you ask BIL to text you when he sets off for your place so you at least have chance to be up and ready for him? Or would he be likely to forget?

You are having a bad time with your eyes and sleep as well Vera. It would be scary to suddenly find you couldn't see out of an eye too. I do hope you manage a better night tonight. I meant to mention a little while ago, in case it was useful when you were talking about new blinds, that if you have the vertical sort, you can buy the slats on their own from some suppliers and just replace the old ones by unhooking them and hooking on the new slats. It's something I never realised before but may do when we replace our conservatory ones.

TAYR was the one I decided on but I also thought of HoO.
