COCK A DOODLE DOO

Morning all and evening,

Lovely start to the day again!!!!!! but it was cold last night. I watched the dragons breath come over the field and forest up from the lake while it was still light as the sun had just gone down. It was just magical.

As I shut the big girls in last night, you know I have been saying there is a rabbit hole which keeps getting dug out and filled in, well there which shot down the hole when it saw me was a baby rabbit so the rabbit trap is coming out tonight.

Saw two hogs at different times last night. One was smaller than the other and we have loads of hog poo all over the garden.

Snap Jane. I have hairy legs and arms! There are less since I've got older but the ones that are left have got darker and more noticeable!! Some folk are so lucky not having these jobs to do. :-S

I had a look at Boughton House Frank..........it is Huuuuge!!! I've made a note as it is not that far away to visit. Your garden is looking good already and the water feature has made a good plant feature now! It's good when you can reuse something. Your beans are looking good and you even have marigold plants looking strong and healthy........putting me to shame as usual!!

I meant to say earlier that OH called in his parents this morning to swap 2 lampshades for them. His mum had gone to have her hair done. OH got their steps out to stand on. They gave us some small, heavy ones to take to the tip a while ago and we didn't know they'd bought new ones that are much bigger and heavier still. They were so heavy OH could hardly get them up the stairs with the stairlift runners in the way and he hurt his back twisting to carry them. Then when he got up there he saw his dad had climbed halfway up the stairs behind him!!! Goodness knows why he did that and risked falling when there was no need, but they are the daft things they do. OH will take our small light aluminium steps in future.

Off to bed now to give my own back a rest. I want to plant some of the things I've bought tomorrow so I hope the rest helps.

The TV programme was called 'Code of a killer', and was a two parter. It was very good.
I've never shaved my legs Jane! I was fair haired/skinned, and any hairs simply didn't show up. They don't now!
About to watch Poldark, Cassie is asleep in her crate! We shall have to get her up soon else she won't sleep to tonight!!

Yes, I saw the DNA prog Liz........it was in 2 parts Jane, last night's was the 2nd. I was very interested in how they portrayed it as the Black pad is half a mile from me and I used to ride my pony along it as a teenager when I lived at Littlethorpe. There was just a field with a wooden fence along one side of the footpath then, all visible from the road then, but I still wouldn't walk up it alone. When it happened my first hubby worked in Narborough and they visited them about the blood tests but he was outside the age group they were testing. Many of his workmates were tested. After I'd left Littlethorpe they built the houses where Pitchfork lived. The houses were at the top of the road where I kept my pony. When they arrested him, one of my work colleagues was shocked to find he lived in the next road to her. She said she used to walk her two dogs on the waste ground at the bottom of their two roads quite late at night!! I've dug out our copy of 'The Blooding' to re-read which is all about the murders. I have always been interested in genetics and it would have been what I studied given the chance. I went to a public lecture Alec Jeffreys gave a few years ago. I see from the last programme that he retired in 2012. I wonder how many crimes have been solved since using his discovery?

Well neither of us enjoyed the meal we had today so we won't be going there again! New potatoes were a bit hard and the cabbage and carrots were slathered in butter. The lamb meat loaf was ok but nothing special. :-S I got a shrub and some scarlet snapdragons while I was there, then called in the village nursery with the cheap plants on the way home. I've never seen it so busy, with the carpark full and cars parked both sides of the road up to it! I got some begonias and 3 tomato plants. I see Mandy has replaced her greenhouse and planted soome seeds already. :-D

Nice to hear from you William and I don't blame Carmel making the most of her 'good' days and going out. People don't always understand how you can be up one day and down the next.

Jane we are off to the cinema sometime this week, I think to see A Little Chaos. I hate being shut inside in the dark on a nice day too, but it doesn't bother OH!

I shall have to be up earlier tomorrow as the settees will be going at 9.00am.......better check there's no money or anything down the sides tonight. ;-) I just hope the chaps are careful getting it into and out of the front porch......I don't want to have to repaint it!!

I have repotted and top dressed all the pots that go on the decking mostly hostas and also a couple of pots of lillies and some astilbes. Oh has rolled all the lawns and done some mowing.

Vron has been round and asked if they can use our front for parking again on Sunday as it's the annual cider and pasty walk through the woods around here. They ahve 108 booked for it at the moment.

Also stripped the bed and washed that but not made it up completely yet. Only the quilt cover to go on and oh has to help me with that as I am so short!!!!

Made an apple, raspberry, and blackberry crumble for a sweet tonight and we are having sausages eggs and bubble and squeak. Just making the squeak now.

Also renewed my sub to Landscape mag as I can't be without that.

Hi all

What a busy day I've had, I was hoping to get on here earlier but with going to my mum's this morning and then chatting with Michelle online, then getting dinner ready, not to mention all the housework I've had to do as we have another viewing on Thursday I've not had five minutes.

I've missed so many posts that I just can't catch up.

I did notice your post Mel about the Robin's nesting in your pot, how wonderful, you must be thrilled. I gather it's the first time it's happened like that.

Sorry to hear about Ros thumb Frank, hope she doesn't need an operation but if she does let's hope it goes well. Sounds like you've been so busy in your garden. OH cut the grass ready for the viewing and I had a quick tidy up around the patio and in the greenhouse. Then set to work on the bungalow with the cleaning inside.

What a lovely surprise Ann winning £25 on the lotto, especially when you weren't expecting it.

Yes I had a lovely chat with my mum this morning, she got a bit breathless again the other day but I think it was because she's a bit worried about her appointment with the doctor tomorrow. I'm sure she'll feel better once the doctor puts her mind to rest. I did say to her the doctor wouldn't of left it this long if he thought there was a problem which eased her mind a bit and when we left she was feeling much happier.

Also had a lovely 3 days with OH and Sandra, we didn't go out in the end as the weather was really cold and wet but still had a laugh watching a comedy film on TV together, which was nice.

Hope Cassie isn't to noisy for you tonight Liz.

Off to get something to eat now, then a nice relaxing evening and an early night.

Evening all,

It's been lovely and warm in the sun bit chilly if you got in the shade though, got all my washing dry ,all ironed and put away .

Frank the garden is looking good ,i love the old water feature all planted up with the Pansies , what a good idea recycling it and using it for plants , i've never planted my Tomato plants in pots i usually put them in grow bags ,but looking at yours i might give that a go , i suppose they don't dry out so much either with standing them in the trays of water .
The runners are coming on too .
I think i'am going to hang on a week or two before i plant up my hanging baskets we had a very sharp frost here yesterday ,every where was white !!

Fiona , i should have liked to have seen Kiah all snuggled up in the sleeping bag :-D i bet that was a squash :-D shame it was a wash out but as you say they now have the tent to use again hopefully when the weather is better .

Yes i expect there will be more legs on show with all this nice warm sun , i have never had to shave my legs ,they have always been as smooth as a babies bum !! :-D :-D

We bought another little green house so that's been put up ,i planted up lots of herbs this afternoon ,they were freebie seeds that came in the post .

Oh Mel it will be nice to see the little Robins when they hatch ,lets hope there nothing about to pinch the eggs from the nest !!

You have had a busy day Liz, little Cassie has settled in really well hasn't she , i hope the gradual moving of the bed goes well tonight :-D if not i'am sure you'll soon hear about it with a little howl !! :-D

William Report 14 Apr 2015 18:14

Hi folks, just a few words to let you know I'm still around. I notice several of you have found the old photos that I put on Facebook, isn't it marvelous what we keep buried away.

Well, the cold wind of this morning abated and led to a nice pleasant sunny day. My wife makes me look such a fibber at times. I had to take her to our surgery this morning where she had the second cortisone injection in her left knee, the other was done a few weeks ago. Our favourite doctor has now retired but before he left he head hunted a charming young male doctor to take his place. This is the chap who did Carmel's little job this morning.
So why is she a fibber? Well, he told her to take it easy for the rest of the day, so following the surgery we had a look around our little town of Bedworth then made home for lunch. Carmel then says that as it's such a nice day she'd like to go out again! The result was a nice steady drive over to Kenilworth, amble round the shops and we finally got home just about 5pm. And when I tell people Carmel has all sorts of problems, how do I explain today? Truth is, she has few 'good days', so when she is fairly well, the weather is fine - she takes advantage of life. Why not?

We watched that programme (2nd part) about the start of DNA and the killer that was caught in the Narborough area. We both recall the case well and of course, as Ann knows, Narborough and district aren't too far away from us. I thought of Ann and wondered if she was watching it. I know the filming wasn't done there, it was felt that it was still too sensitive. Very good drama though - and our other favourite is on tonight - Ordinary Lies, brilliant. My other favourite watch is Betrayed but it wouldn't be Carmel's cup of tea. So I record it and watch it when I have some time to myself.

Well, I think that's enough for me for the time being. Hope you are all well and enjoying the weather. TTFN

Jane Report 14 Apr 2015 18:04

Liz was that programme a repeat .I'm sure I saw it the other day !(The DNA)
Little by little Cassie will be shuffled nearer her own quarters LOL.I bet she will be fine .She will know you are still there tonight Liz :-D
It is only in the last couple of years that Chris has started going to the Cinema.I used to go all the time with Fitz.I think what put Chris off going in Kettering was seeing patients. But since the Errol Flynn cinema opened in Northampton he is keen to go as it is nothing like one of these huge multi screened places. It is just the one with lovely comfy roomy seats and you can take your wine or pot of tea/coffee and just relax. You can even tip your seat back !!!

Frank you have been a busy boy today .I bet it will be hot in the conservatory if the sun has been beating down on it...You will be down to your Underpants AGAIN :-D

Frank Report 14 Apr 2015 17:27

Well I am finished for the day !!!

I started off doing the front lawn, didn't trim the edges. Went round the back and did the lawn and trimmed the edges in between having sit downs. (MY POOR BACK) Then I moved that massive water feature that Ros had delivered. I had to get a iron rod and jerk it into position. I put the top on and filled it with water. It's now ready for the birds. The blackbird has found it already.

I moved the patio table and chairs back into the right place, and moved some big pots. I must say that the garden is looking top hole !!!!

Ros came back with loads more plants, and has filled two more hanging baskets, and been setting more plants in the garden. She has just come in (Bless her)

I have watered the patio and front garden pots and borders , Greenhouse and beans watered as is my Veg. Patch.

Nice easy tea tonight, Fish pie for me and steak Dianne for Ros, Tesc# finest !!!

Glad Chris had a nice time in Cambridge, it must be nice for him to get out on his own, now and again. I don't fancy sitting in the Cinema this weather either Jane. But you weren't to know it was going to get this warm.

What a disaster Fiona. There we were with a nice mild weekend and your poor family out in all that rain. At least as you say, they have the tent for better weather in the summer.

I am off for a shower, then into my dressing gown for a relaxing evening in the conservatory with my FOOTBALL.

I haven't noticed Shirl on line recently, when I do I will call her and see how things are over there.

Hope you all enjoy your evening meals, and relaxing evening.

We've had a very busy day here! Cassie slept till 5.45, out for a wee, then straight back to bed till OH got up at 630ish, let her out, and made our early morning tea. Up at 7.45, after that, OH got breakfast (he always does) while I showered and dressed. After breakfast, a walk(!), Merlin put out, stable and yard cleaned (OH again!!) Cassie into her crate, slept while I did hse/work, yuk!! After that we pickled about in the garden till lunch. Another sleep, while I gardened, OH was busy in the workshop. Now it's heading for supper time which is long spaghetti, so nice and easy!!
Tonight, we're moving Cassies bed over to the other side of the bedroom. It'll be the first stage of getting her into her own bedroom!! Could be noisy!!.
Jane, I haven't been to the pictures for 11 years!! OH's last visit was 15 years ago!!!
Did anyone watch the programme last night about the first murder conviction using DNA? It was so good, and so touch and go as to whether it would really work!!

Afternoon Everyone
What a smashing day.It would be even nicer if we didn't have the wind. Not that I am complaining :-D.

What a shame about the camping trip Fiona.Kia sounded like she was nice and warm in the sleeping bags lol..Hopefully next time they go they will have beautiful sunshine.

So no Devon this time Frank..Can't say I blame you with all the things you will be doing in the garden. It would have been nice though to get a sniff of the lovely sea air :-D

Ooh poor Ros's thumb :-(..I knew that injection was going be painful .Fingers crossed it helps and she won't need an op..You need your thumb so much even though you don't realise it.

Ann ,it is rather sad when you see somewhere now and know how splendid it was in the past.I suppose it must happen so often.I will have a google and look the place up.

Chris is just back from Cambridge. He quite enjoyed the exhibition even though it was fairly small. He then went to Watersto*** and got a couple of books. One on 'Quiet Paris' and the other is the Lonely Plane* one on Italian Lakes.I will be having a look through them in a minute :-D
He said there was lots of Oil Seed Rape in the fields around Huntingdon .
Frank, Boughton Estates own a lot of Cranford too besides Warkton and Weekly .Lots of rented properties(and they aren't cheap rentals either !!!)
I think it feels like it is still getting warmer !!..I know tomorrow the temp will be a bit higher and we are going to the cinema in Northampton to see Still Alice..
I know we didn't bother going to see one film last month as the weather was so good, but i don't want to miss this one.I just hate the thought of sitting in a cinema in such lovely weather.

I think ladies legs must be coming out on show as I noticed that the shelf with shaving gels and razors were looking pretty empty LOL .I need to attend to mine :-D :-S

Going to sit outside for a bit now so BBL
Mel how nice t have a nest of Robins eggs. You won't be able to keep your eyes of it :-D :-D

Morning All, Evening Kim,

YES JANE, Katherine & Jakes camping trip in a tent was a wash out. they are home now 3 days earlier than planned & it's rained here most the time and cold winds, I don't think Loch Lomond area would have been much different from here.

Seemingly it was freezing and they did not sleep very much, Kiah slept with Katherine in her sleeping bag Sunday night and slept in Jakes sleeping bag last night and they were in the car. and seemingly the poor dog was not keen to go for long walks as they thought she would. even though they had taken her waterproof coat with them. if she is an old lady as we have been told she is about 8 or 9 years old, well most old ladies that i know wouldn't like going out in wet & windy weather for long walks through forests, :-D :-D any way it was an experience and they do have a tent now so here's hoping we have a better summer then, they will try again.

Frank

Frank Report 14 Apr 2015 12:14

Late again this morning, Good Morning/afternoon all.

What a lovely day we have here. Sunshine and clear sky's

Ros's Thumb is called "TRIGGER FINGER" Chris will no doubt know what that is. She tells be it's a small tendon across the bone. The injection was very painful, and her finger still pops out of joint. If it persists she will need a small operation to release it.

Not going to Devon. I said I have too much to do in the garden. What with planting my both types of beans, and keeping an eye on my veg growing. If it's going to get warmer (as they say) the greenhouse will need watering as will all the pots on the patio. I can ask Tony when we go away to Spain but I think it's a cheek to ask him now.

We have one of those swivel top posts from Lewis's swing ball that just sits in the garage. I am so pleased that "BABY" is settling in well Liz.

What a smashing find Mel. There is something about watching a nest with eggs in it. You get drawn to seeing that it's kept safe and wait for signs of hatching.

You certainly have a supply of vouchers Ann. !!! That house sounds as though it was the BIG HOUSE. Like the one near Kettering "BOUGHTON HOUSE" that owns two little thatched villages close by "WARKTON" and "WEEKLY" just a couple of miles from Jane. ROCKINGHAM CASTLE also has the workers living in it's own village.

I'm off into the garden. Lawns first, then onto other jobs that need doing. Ros has gone to the Garden Centre to get more plants for her Hanging Baskets, and whatever else she might find :-D :-D :-D :-D

See you later.

Morning all and evening Kim,

Another nice day here today and I had a good nights sleep.

I keep meaning to tell you when I was sowing seeds the day befoe yesterday I came across the Robin's nest. The ones from down by my shed where we fed the babies last year whilst building the shed. I had put lots of plastic pots behind the shed on a raised bit of walling. I walked round there for some pots and something flew off from the litre pots. I looked down just to my right and there in a litre pot on it's side was the nest with 5 eggs in it. Now I have to go round the other way to get the pots so I don't walk past the nest and frighten her sitting. I did have a peep yesterday and she was back on the nest.

Morning All,

Another sunny day! OH has gone to a meeting in Hinckley and I am off to do some errands and get my car cleaned next. The fav carvery isn't on today so I think it will be the OAP deal at a garden group garden centre! lol.

Yes, it was a bit disappointing Jane, you could see how great it must have been once, but just the bare bones of it left now. If you google Newnham Paddox you will see pics of the house that was once there and the pic of the small house is the one they live in now. The family also owned most of the houses in the village once.

My back is twanging from bending and hoovering the settees for viewing yesterday! I shan't miss that job in future although I think the new ones need a polish stuff wiping on every few months. At least that is less hard on the back than wrestling with the hoover pipe and nozzle!! It will seem strange without them as they did look smart in the dark plum......I just hope the brown will look good with the same decor.

Well I'd better track down our bin now as the bin men are hopeless at putting them back where they are from despite having numbers on them. Then I shall be off. BBL.

Ann you have had a good day pocket wise. Good you sold the settees for the asking price and that you still had the lottery ticket. What a great day you have had.

Cooked Sheep Sh*t pie tonight with spring greens. I always put casrrot and onion in with the mince and very tasty it was too.

Going to watch Vera now so see you all in the morning.

Night night sleep tight.

Ann,from what you say it wasn't that special yesterday.Or have I read it wrong?
Great your settees have gone and for the full asking price. So with that and your win on the lottery it will be burning a hole in your pocket :-D :-D
We go on the 7th May to Paris for 5 nights. So not too long now :-DOne of the tops I bought the other day seems big big so I went back to Nex* this morning and tried the next size down.It fits so I bought it.I will wear the 'bigger ' one for now and then hopefully by the time we go to Italy in September that one will be better :-D.I just wish I was as strong willed as Chris on the dieting front. But I'm not :-S

I see the Programme on Suicide in the family is on shortly.Chris was at the Dentist today having a filling and he heard Johnny's sister talking on the radio about Johnny and the charity that has been set up in his memory.I still can't believe he has gone.

Chris has a twingy back.He went to stand up from the table and just stood there bent over at the waist. He said it was just a spasm .So he has now gone off to bed to lie flat.

Ann I remember sitting on Wicker cushioned seats waiting for our new Suite. In fact that was all we had as I had got rid of all the lounge furniture ,so we were waiting for everything new to arrive. It felt very strange sitting in here with just 2 seats and a TV !!
Programme just starting now.
