Morning all,

The sky today is such a funny colour, its cloudy but the sky has a yellow glow to it ,I think it should be dry with the odd sunny spells, I haven't got going yet I feel quite lazy with no go in me.

Mel your email you sent first thing had nothing on it .
Did you have any damage with all the wind .

That will be good if you can get the car back sooner Vera ,enjoy the birthday lunch today .

Sounds as if you enjoyed the brunch Anng and you got some nice goodies to eat too .
Hope you manage to get to the hairdresser and back in the dry .

Well I suppose I better get myself into gear and get some jobs done.

Sorry about that I had to go.

Dull and dreary this morning but the wind has gone it 13 degrees and miserable.

Lots to do today so I better get on.

I'm pleased someone had a good day yesterday and that Anng did'nt get the storm force winds like we did.

Good morning all grey here but very still and 12 degrees. I think storm Agnes may have bypassed us. Hope so anyway. Hair appointment 12.30 so hoping it doesn't rain.

Brunch and a good long chat went very pleasantly and a few things bought in the lovely farm shop. Although I am sure many people were just passing through on the motorway, I am sure that many were there just for a coffee and a chance to buy the lovely meat, cheese and cakes and pies. Hard to even remember we were in a motorway service station. Of course stuff was dearer but so it normally is in farm shops. I bought some very nice looking Gloucester sausages, yoghurt and a large Hog roll. (the latter for lunch today.) I also bought a few bits for Christmas presents.

You've got a good memory Mandy. We had forgotten about the car workshop people ringing until the phone went about 5.30 and it was them. Apparently the car is all stripped down and ready to go into the paint shop tomorrow. They said they will probably ring again on Friday so I'm hoping that means we might get the car back a bit earlier than we expected.

Evening all,

It's been a lovely sunny day here ,first thing I though it would pour with rain as the sky was so grey but the sun broke through and its been really warm .

Hope you enjoyed your brunch today Anng I saw the programme at the weekend all about the Tebay services it was quite interesting.

Glad you've got your freezer sorted out Vera did you get a report on the car today as its Wednesday.

Mel I would have had fishcake new pots and broccoli ,just to mix it up lol

It's a year today since I broke my wrists so last year at this time I was just home and trussed up like a chicken with my plastered wrists .

Thaqts typical Vera........ I am sure your friend will still love the gift card though.

I have to go to the post van again tomorrow and the docs.

Done a bit of painting today but feel very tired today. I am sending a parcel to the lady who has only just got her last parcel so I hope this one gets through ok and she dos'nt have to wait another 11 days.
Vera my car milage gage is like that the stuff in the screen for the digital display plays up.

Now what shall I have for dinner tonight??? I have some cod fish cakes or burgers. So do I have the fish cakes with chips and peas or the burger with new pots and broccoli??

It’s good that your parcel eventually turned up Mel, but it’s no wonder that fewer and fewer people are using Royal Mail. Even with letters it seems to make no difference if you use 1st or 2nd class stamps. Either might arrive the next day or might take 10 days.

I hope you enjoyed your brunch AnnG. No, my freezer man hadn’t put the Fast Freeze on. When I tried to set the temperature I could see the problem immediately. It was set to -18 but half the display was no longer illuminated so it looked like a capital E with the top bar missing. In fact that was part of the 8. If I go up close to the freezer and peer at the display unit I can see what it is reading, I just can’t see it from the other side of the room. I stupidly asked OH if it needed a new bulb or battery and got a very withering look and was told it’s all electronics. He did say he would ask our man if he could get a new unit for us and fit it but I have said not to bother while I can still read it as it will mean another call out charge as well as the cost of the unit.

My friend drove me to town this morning. I had my hair washed, cut and blow dried, went to the bank, did some food shopping, bought some daff bulbs and a garden gift voucher for tomorrow’s birthday girl and still got back to the bus station with 25 minutes to wait for the bus. I did consider walking but my shopping bag was really heavy so I waited for the bus.

We had a bit of sun this morning and it’s warm out but it’s very grey now and it’s got that “calm before the storm” feeling, though Storm Agnes is supposed to bypass us.

Time now for our afternoon cuppa. The kettle’s seldom off in our house lol

EDIT. I meant to say that when I bought the garden gift voucher I was offered a choice of 3 cards with it: a picture of a Christmas tree with the words Merry Christmas, a picture of a pile of gift wrapped parcels and the words Happy Christmas or a robin perched on the snowy handle of a spade. When I said I wanted it for a birthday tomorrow I was told that was all they had! I had the robin one as at least that didn’t mention Christmas but my friend will think I’ve gone mad!

Morning all,

Dull and overcast here this morning and pc says mostly cloudy and 12 degrees.

Enjoy your brunch Anng and don't eat too much.

Going to try and do some casting and painting today so should be busy and I want to stay off the pc as I think scrolling through sites hurts my arm.

I am so relieved my customer recieved her little parcel eventually. It took 11 days in all but it was my fault as when I addressed it I left the R out in Wrexham but that was the only thing so it should have reached her by the clear post code..

Good morning all.Regarding freezer temperature. We had always kept ours at -18 until it went wrong a few weeks ago when the door jammed open until the alarm rang. Then it switched off. I for some reason couldn't get it to set to -18 only -16. It stayed at that for five weeks and everything was solid in it so don't worry too much Vera. After we had completely defrosted it daughter managed to set it to -18 again so it is ok now. However, she showed me what to press to set it and it is a button that I have to hold in. But there are several buttons and I am not sure, if it fails again, that I know which button to press :-D
Anyway Vera, glad he fixed it and at a reasonable price too.

Mel, that is good that your parcel eventually arrived. Just another hiccup by the Post office/Royal Mail.

Going out to brunch this morning so have to be out at 10am. Did anyone see the series on Gloucester Services on the M5 (between J12 and 11a/ 11a and J12). They are run by the same family as Tebay services in Cumbria on the M6. Everything, as much as possible, is locally sourced and their farm shops are great. There was a previous series on the Cumbria one a few years back. So, we are going to the service station for brunch.

Why is everything so complicated these days. Its bad enough chnaging our inches etc and our coins years ago and all these new fangled digital things scatter my brain. I have no idea what temp our chest freezer is all I know is it needs defrosting and goodness knows what in the bottom of it.

I went to the post van this morning and Dave looked up those two parcels I sent and one person did'nt recieve hers but the post office said they have it somewhere. Well the lady messaged me today to say it had turned up with her postman and he delivered it this morning. She is delighted and has bid on something else of mine. We were chatting over messages and I said something about being as old lady . She came back and said she could beat me cos she was 72 so I had to reply that I beat her cos I am 74.

I am pleased you got away with your deep clean Anng. It would be good if you only have to have it each year now. I also agree that you did'nt need all those injections on top of the covid and flu ones.

I had a nice pilchard salad tonight with homemade trifle for pud and am feeling very full now.

Well, our freezer engineer managed to fix our problem within the hour. I must have misheard him on the phone as it was only £79, not £89 so I was well pleased. The only problem is that I had the freezer set at -17 which seemed to be keeping everything well frozen but he said Health & Safety say it should be at -18 and pressed things on the touch pad. I was upstairs while this was going on and, of course, OH didn't ask about it. The engineer said it will take about 3 hours to reset itself. 4 hours later I have a strange symbol on the display and I've no idea what the temperature inside the freezer is. I'll have to try and find the original instruction book and hope I can work it out.

Good to get a lift, Cynth next door gave me a lift to the dentist this morning. It is so difficult relying on the goodness of friends but I have been lucky since being in my own. I do still hate asking. Cynth volunteered because it was threatening rain.

Ann, I googled Dentist Deep Clean and found some good explanations of why it is done. It does sound very uncomfortable and you are probably wise not to have all the different jabs at much the same time.

That doesn’t seem a bad price at all for the gardening you had done. I’ve just been out to fill a bird feeder and ended up pulling out a few more weeds. That seems a never ending task.

Well, I maligned our freezer engineer saying he probably wouldn’t turn up. He has just arrived. He’s given us a price of £89 for call out and an hour’s labour so I am hoping that he can fix it within the hour.

(Pause to take a phone call)

That was a good call. A friend has arranged to pick up some glasses at the opticians at 10 am tomorrow which is the same time as my appointment and in the same road so she is going to give me a lift :-)

re the deep clean Vera, I think I did hear of somebody else who had it done. I think it started because I seemed to make more than the usual tartar and cleaning under the teeth was to protect the gums from receding. It has worked so it remains to be seen if dropping one lot will affect the gums. I really didn't want it done this time as the fist appointment would have been next week that would be three injections and the following week the same again the the covid and flu vaccinations and I was not sure if the injections would stay long in my body and affect the covid and flu.
A reason for the injections is because my teeth are ultra sensitive and I can't stand the thing that he uses to clean the teeth. I jump all the time which makes it hard for him to do the job.

I have had my garden sorted by a nice young man called Jake. His Father owns Newent Landscapes but I think Jake and his partner are starting up on their own

The garden looks so much lighter. Jake did a really good job, used an industrial hedge trimmer thing and cut the roses right down. His Father was here to start with and he agreed the roses would grow again ok if cut low. He did the two roses on the centre trellis and the two over the arch, He also did the three buddleijas and the jasmine outside the conservatory, and removed the clematis tangle from the thug that grows in the buddleija by the gravel, and lastly he trimmed off the top of the holly tree by the greenhouse. He took all the stuff away with him in his truck. The father said the biggest part of the cost was the disposal of the cuttings etc. He tidied up afterwards and I am really pleased with it. Next week he is coming to pressure wash the front and get rid of the weeds then treat it to prevent more weeds growing. Today cost £150. and the front will cost £50. I am quite happy with that price.

I'm glad your check up was OK AnnG and you can put the deep clean off for another 6 months. I've never had one and, tbh, I don't know anyone else who has but they don't sound much fun. Our next check up is in 4 or 5 weeks so I might ask our dentist about them. On the other hand I might not! She might decide I need one.

It rained overnight here and then was quite nice this morning but now it's looking rather grey and gloomy. We're supposed to be getting strong winds tomorrow. I hope they hold off till the afternoon as I need to walk the 1.5 miles into town tomorrow morning and I don't fancy battling against the wind all the way. I could get the bus that goes at 8.15 but then I'll have about an hour and a half to hang around before my appointment. I'll have about 50 minutes to wait for a bus back after my appointment but that's not quite so bad as I can pop into the bank and one or two shops.

I don't seem to have done much today. It's been a morning of doing silly little jobs - a bit of mending, a bit of this and a bit of that. I've got a pile of ironing to do but I am not in the mood. It's mostly OH's stuff. His summer shirts all seem to need ironing but his winter shirts don't. Can you tell me how he's managed to wear 9 shirts in 7 days? It's not as though he's changed to go out in the evening. We can only think that he's got up in the morning and put clean clothes on (he doesn't wear a dressing gown but gets dressed as soon as he is up). Then he has probably had breakfast and read the paper, then gone to shower and automatically put the clothes he has taken off into the laundry basket and put another clean lot on. There were 9 lots of underwear and socks too but they certainly don't get ironed. I've told him that if he keeps doing that he will find himself doing his own washing and ironing, lol.

We are currently waiting for a refrigeration engineer to arrive as we have a slight problem with the upright freezer in the kitchen. He is supposed to come between 12 and 5 pm but I have a feeling that he might not turn up at all

I hope your arm is feeling better today Mel and anyone else who often has aches and pains is having a pain free day today.

Back from the dentist, only 20 minutes late today which is an improvement. And I decided to be pro-active. I have thought about this before so, when he finished the check up and had done whatever measuring of the gums he does. And then said 'great, you are doing really well'. I asked him if it was absolutely necessary to have the deep clean (3 or 4 injections for each side so 2 appointments). And he said 'no not really, it is up to you, I can do it yearly'. :-S so it told him not to do it this time and I will have it done in March. Why haven't I challenged this before? Of course if I now get something that would have been prevented by having a deep clean, that is my problem not his. But he said to go in immediately if I have a problem. So next appointment is actually 2 April 2024.
