I saw some on tv about the floods very early this morning.....the shop windows were all under water. I never saw the people on the rooftops and clinging to lamposts........the poor souls. Possessions all lost and fearing for their lives. I think they said it could get worse too.

I bet Katie is into everything now she can get about Mandy!! lol I remember we had to move all ornaments off the shelves and coffee table when my little brother was toddling and 'let loose'. lol I remember dad putting very strong sprung catches on the kitchen cupboards after had a field day with the flour and cornflakes!! lol

OH just rang....he has finished his training and is on the way home......there was me thinking I had another few hours peace! lol

Afternoon everyone,

Raining here too , not cold here ,i'am back in short sleeved top !!

I was looking at the news in Australia ,the poor people in the floods, up on the roofs of their houses and clinging to trees and lamp posts ,just awful.

I don't remember being wiped with the dish cloth , i had my face wiped with mums Pinny once or twice , also remember mum walking to town with her Pinny on lol and her wipping it off and putting it in her shopping bag lol

Little Katie is now walking from one side of the room to the other , and i'am sure she's after some more teeth she's putting things in her mouth and trying to have a good chew !!

Morning All,

Lashing it down with rain here now. OH whizzed off this morning for the MRI scan of his head and then on to his training for the day. I have been to see the nurse about my lipid levels. Cholesterol a bit high, but all the other results were good, so basically the D and E words apply as I thought!!! I need 2 more scans now for the study, then all the checks will be done again next xmas. The surgery was so busy this morning, the car park had no spaces, so people were having to go to the pay and display. There were raised voices in the surgery...someone was very distressed because she'd been told a doctor wouldn't come out. She was clearly upset because she didn't know what to do. It annoys me because I've heard receptionists there before telling people what can't be done. The problem is, they never follow it up with further advice, which inflames the situation.

I've just had my porridge made with water and blueberries with cinnamon sprinkled on top, so will get a cuppa and start the washer going........can't remember when I last put washing outside.

When I was first married I did all the washing by hand for 6 months , apart from the sheets which went to the laundry, while I saved up for a cheap automatic Inde*it machine with a door in the front. Mum had a top loader and couldn't believe you could just switch it on and leave it to it. When I was little, my gran was still using the old copper with a fire underneath and a dolly and a mangle. How things have come on over the years.

11.20am

Same weather here, rain and windy. Ros wants me to go to town with her but I think I will pass again.

Hankies, what were they. ours were a bit of old sheet torn in a square. mind you had they been propery hankies they wouldn't have lasted. I would clean my muddy shoes/boots off before going home with mine, and get a new "HANKIE" the next day. !!!!

My mum, and I did it also, would use the dishcloth, to wipe the childrens mouths, after a meal or ice cream. No wonder they didn't like it. Would hold them by the top of their heads.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 12 Jan 2011 11:14

Liz I think I had to lick the hankie too before my face was wiped. Probably because I did'nt like it when mum licked it first!! She used to hold my chin so I could'nt turn my face away.

Glad I am not the only one with bad weather.

11.14am.

Horrible morning here, raining and blowing! have just had an e-mail from my cousin who lives in Brisbane!! Luckily their house is on high ground so she and her OH are OK, however, she was sent home early from work and told me that the food shops are being emptied, and the rain and water are horrendous, listened to the news this a.m! what a cranky world we seem to be living in? where will it all end? dread to think!! I remember 'face cleaning' only my mother made ME lick the hanky, so not quite so bad!!!

Morning from a murky and wet Devon...................................................

It is really miserable here this morning and I was going to market today.

The oil has been delivered and we did'nt order it!! but it's now in the tank so I shall have to get that thing where they come and top it up stopped as we don't use so much now mum has gone.

I can remember takng a bowl to the icecream van that used to come round the streets when I was young.

We also had a travelling green grocer called Len. He was lovely and I used to ride in the back of the lorry as he went up our street. I liked weighing out the potatoes on his big scales.

Social services just here to pick up stuff mum had.

Ughhh yes, mum spitting on a hanky to wipe your face!!! Awful, remember turning my head away, but there was no escape was there!! I never had any hankies with nursery rhymes on but they all seemed to have pictures in the corner or patterned borders. Some girls had pockets in their knickers for their hanky didn't they. I never did though. Boys tended to use their sleeve.......yuk!

I think my hankies had nursery rhymes on them
Always had to have a clean hankie in your satchel for school.

Jane

Jane Report 11 Jan 2011 21:25

Licking or spitting on a hankie !!!!!!!! Yikes I remember that .I think I probably did the same to my 2 lol. They most likely hated it as well.I must ask them if they remember me doing it.
Having to carry a Hankie either up your sleeve or up the leg of your Knickers .I think that was just us girls.Boys had trouser pockets.

I haven't been to the Library for some years.Maybe 5.It's silly really that I don't ,but I just find it easier to have a quick browse through Tes** and buy a couple.
I used to love catching the bus on a saturday morning (once I was old enough) and get off at the Library in Plymstock,to change my books and get the latest Enid Blytons.Secret 7 or Famous 5.I felt so proud of having my own ticket and felt really grown up.Then an hour later I would get the next bus home.I think we were allowed 3 books then.
Then my parents had to put a lock on my bedroom window as they found me with my sheets tied together trying to scale down the outside of the house lolol
I was one of the Famous 5 or Secret 7!!!!!.I still have very vivid dreams. But I don't try to climb out of windows these days.I thank Enid Blyton (is that how you spell Blyton)? for my love of books.I cannot be without one ever.I would have withdrawal symptoms if I couldn't get my hand on a good book lol

You dreaded a sneeze didn't you Mandy. It was so hard to pull a chair out to sit at a table without scraping the legs on those hard floors they had then without getting those black looks! Then you'd get the giggles!! lol
