Now and then at this PC I smell tobacco smoke.
I quit the habit 15 years ago and my wife doesn't smoke.
The sweet smell seems on my left. After a while it goes.

Strange

Mandy, I often sit here and smell custard powder. Ros can never smell it. and then it's suddenly gone !!!!!

I knew you were kinky JANE rubber indeed !!! lol lol. I loved Radio Malt and Virol.

We like olives stuffed with anchovies, plain ones are O.K. but as you say a bit dry

was it 4711 that came in a turn up stick thing that you rubbed on your wrists and forehead.I remember that smell from Nana.It was a lovely smell ,and I think it felt cold when you rubbed it on.
Another smell from Nana was 'Deep Heat" or something similar.I think it began with a V.'It was her Embrocation lol.I can't remember where she rubbed that. But her bedroom always stank of it.She kept the tube on her bedside table next to her Teeth in the glass lol.I remember scrubbing her teeth when I was in my teens when she wasn't well, and gagging as I was doing it.Little did I know then ,that in a few years time I would be dealing with a lot worse than false teeth when I went into nursing!!!!.I still gagged ,but not at teeth lol
On that pleasant thought ,I am off to bed.See you all again tomorrow.

I hope Fiona manages to get a good sleep in tonight .It will be a long day for her tomorrow.

Childhood smells ....Granmothers 4711 perfume,Lavender bags in her drawers lol .....not that sort of drawers !!! the old Parafin stove with the top bit that turned and made patterns on the ceiling , and those little tins of quickies that you could rub over your face and they cooled you down.

This might seem strange ,but every now and then i can smell perfume round me ,it can be any where in the house ,but if i ask hubby if he can smell it he says no !! i take a few sniffs and then its gone .

I loved the smell of the washing in Mums Twin Tub.The smell of the Omo and the smell of the hot rubber ring thing that pressed the washing down in the spinner and the hot rubber pipe that drained the water .I know I have said before but I do love the smell of rubber........................in an innocent way (just before Frank makes a comment ) lolol.Give me a hot water bottle or an old fashioned swimming cap and I would be in heaven lol..I think the smell just takes me back to my childhood. They were the nice smells
The horrible ones were Virol and Mil Par.I don't want to smell those again

I found the black ones dried my mouth up ,i'll have to try the green ones ,might find i like then .

My first washing machine was a twin tub , washing seemed to take for ever ,loading into the spinner and filling up to rinse and spin ,a boil wash would really steam up the kitchen, use to have a pair of wooden tong things to lift the washing out .

Jane Report 6 Jan 2011 20:09

We like the Green ones best Mandy. They do have a weird taste .A bit like Marmite either love or hate lol.Yes a kind of bitter taste ,but not really bitter just different.I don't know how to describe it.

Jane

Jane Report 6 Jan 2011 20:06

David ,I did the same thing with my washing in the bath lol.Just after we married and couldn't afford a washing machine.I remember how heavy it all was to try and squeeze the water out,and heave it all out over the side of the bath, and then lump it downstairs out to the garden to reach up and get it over the line.Didn't have a mangle to get rid of the excess water lol. That would have been really helpful.
But then I was left £1.200 by some lady who was apparently my step grandmother !! The first thing I bought was a washing machine ,then a Hoover, and a fridge. How wonderful was that lol.Bless her who ever she was .I never knew her.

A few years ago when I was skint my washing machine packed in.
Couldnt even afford a repair.
Used to put the entire wash in the bath and tread it as though it was grapes.
Then transfer to a bucket, out into the garden and on to the line soaking wet.Of course it eventually dried.

My feet had never been so clean :)

Jane cut the crackling off the meat and a little of the fat. Put it on another baking sheet and sprinkle the bottom with some salt and turn it over and do the same. Bung back in the oven and let it cook with your pots.

Fiona I do hope all goes well for you tomorrow too. Thoughts are with you and yours.

Ann I have a a little dresser that stands on my worktop. On the bottom shelf are herbs and spices OH brought with him when he came down here to live in 1997!!!!!! I had better throw them all out I think. That will give me a bit more space for newer things.

Mel, you have just reminded me that I bought some olives to have over xmas and forgot I had them!! I have some spices that I brought from my old house so they must be 10 years old now!!!!

Wish I'd seen the programme on the Blisworth Tunnel. It's hard to keep track of what's on with all the channels there are.....often I just stumble across things.

Both of those sayings are lovely aren't they.

OH had no washers on his car the past few days.......after topping the bottle up, poking them with a pin and that didn't work, he discovered the fuse had gone by trying one of the others with the same rating. Went and got a new one .....only 59p.

We went to see the film.........but it wasn't the best 3D we'd seen and we both thought it was ok but a bit lame. Even with the daytime discount it cost £17 but we did have 2 coffees.......OH spilt his all over his trousers when he pulled the lid off as they had filled it to the brim....was not impressed!!!

Before we went out, I had the cover off the dvd player to try and get the stuck dvd out (switched it off and pulled the leads out first) no joy, so it will be off to the tip tomorrow as the repair would be more than a new one. I think I will have to take the VHS tapes to a shop to copy to dvd as it won't be worth buying a combi recorder/player again. We already have a cheap player only.

Liz, I bet you have more room on your shelves after the clear out, it's surprising what you find as well........I often have a glut of something.....tinned tomatoes usually!!

Watching tv now......another recorded Marple I think.
