YOU have done brilliantly Mel, me? I just seem to get in a muddle!!! I think I've exhausted that family now!! Restall Villas? Anyone know anything about that?!! No, I jest!!!! Neighbours go today, hooray! two or three months peace, snow here first thing, OH said he wished it was 3ft and then they'd get snowed in! No fear! I want them gone, sooner the better!!! I do hope Shirl is coping as well as possible, all we can do is be supportive when she needs it. Washed the kitchen floor this a.m (I'm getting carried away!!) and it was FILTHY, really grimey, I felt quite ashamed, must do it more often! OH says whats the point in this weather! but you could argue that ANY time!!!! |

That would be nice to listen to if you could get the tapes to work Mandy. think you can get those transferred to CD too. I threw out my old tape deck when it packed in but I kept the tapes for a while as they were full of favourite pop songs as well as some of the family's voices. I think there was some of my brother in 'toddler speak'!! lol. I can't remember what happened to them. One of the VHS tapes I want to copy to dvd is of OH doing a talk about Thomas Hardy. It is the only thing I have with his voice on. Maybe we should get a camcorder! When you think that years ago people didn't even have photos of their loved ones, we are lucky with the technology we have these days. |

Hadn't read your post properly Ann!!! It was still very interesting info even though it was the wrong Jane, mine couldn't read or write so it's a good thing she wasn't at that school!!!!! It's an easy mistake especially with this particular lady!!!! Finding all this old film is REALLY interesting particularly with OH in as well!! We took a lot of Cini film when M & L were small, but sadly we didn't take care of it and it got damp and ruined! could kick myself, how careless can you be!!! Mel: 'THEY' died at Wynchcombe, John in 1903 and Jane 1901, so that's them 'done and dusted'!! again, thanks for the help |

I think it could be put on dvd Mandy. He said one of OH's cousins had had one of the films put on dvd. These films we saw were silent, but he said he had one somewhere with sound. It was just like sitting in the cinema in the old days when you could hear the whirrr of the projector before the film started. FIL used to be a cinema projectionist, so it is not surprising he had his own smaller one!! I asked him today how he got to be interested and he said it was while he was in the RAF. They used to have films and a projector, so he learned to do it. He said with them having DC electric abroad instead of AC they had to back a lorry up with a diesel generator on it to connect up to, to run the projector |

Visited MIL this afternoon and they had set up FIL's old cine projector and screen to show us some old films he made in the 50s. He had to find a rubber band first to replace a belt on the projector as it had perished with age.lol The film was still in good condition considering it's age and was very interesting as OH's grandma was on it and also his gt grandad and uncles who had all died before I met OH. Part of it was of MIL and FIL's wedding, some of relatives when they visited and one of his mum and grandma riding on very old fashioned bikes. There was quite a bit of OH as a toddler on his 3 wheeler, on a donkey at the seaside and at the open air lido with his mum in a rather risque swimsuit!! lol OH said he was shocked to see his grandma running on the film as she had rheumatic fever as a girl and she had always suffered from heart trouble related to it for as long as he could remember and never went out walking and couldn't climb stairs. |

Too right, it's very un-nerving quite unneccessary and actually downright rude! Thanks Mel for your P.M. |

Oh Mandy, that could have scared a new person right off the site, let alone the thread!! I don't think some people make any allowances for others being new or unfamiliar with how things work. I don't think many of us are deliberately discourteous ........but some people are deliberately rude and unkind!! |
