They are socks to hang up for Santa Mandy, about one foot long to the heel and 6 inches wide at the top. I am rusty at knitting, but have done about 3 inches while watching the telly tonight. Now I am wondering whether I have enough wool!! I have PM you.

Oh David, the poor woman. They shouldn't have discharged her by the sounds of it. Are you and OH managing to keep warm up there!

FIL managed to slip over on the path yesterday because he was hurrying he said! Landed on his BTM and luckily no damage done. He wasn't a bit bothered and said he has plenty of padding there, but really he needs to get shoes with deep tread on the soles and be careful......at 89 things can snap!!

David Report 21 Dec 2010 20:15

A bigger shock for fer daughter Ann.
Since it was only hours after being discharged from hospital there will surely be an inquest?
My wife,a retired nurse thinks the hospital may have discharged her to die at home.
The lady living on the other side of her has just been discharged from hospital recently having had a perforated ulcer.

Sheila cut the arms off an old jumper or sweat shirt and use them as ankle warmers. I have done that in the past. Grease them up well with either vasilene or Aqueous cream. You can get it from the docs.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 21 Dec 2010 16:33

Gosh Ann it's frightening how things have gone up is'nt it?

I got out some old drawing pins and they had 25p on the top of the box!

Getting dark quick tonight. I have only just come in from doing all the chickens and bantams and thought I would just have a look at the thread and now it's time to go and shut the big ones in and I have'nt had my cupps yet.

We have iciles hanging in the corner of the porch outside and I wonder how long they will be tomorrow??

Sheila Report 21 Dec 2010 16:32

Oh dear cannot get on the site it keeps jumping off so this is just to
say Mohsen DID NOT get his stay here papers he did not hand over his money though .it seems there was a gap in his papers in APRIL and so they would not give him his right to stay and his visa runs out in six weeks.
so he and my daughter have had to re apply for January with more paper work. They were disapointed my daughter came in crying cold and fed up they waited hours to be seen loads of people getting there yes can stay and they had to go away with nothing.

Mohsens gone to work and he said it would have made a nice present for christmas now is heart is heavy bless him.

I have just been out in my car main roads were good but we are on a ungritted hill so going down was very nasty. its a family lunch tomorrow
so hoping the snow melts a little and we get nothing no more snow
I asked Ryan to clean up the back garden so he will do that later he said.
There are huge ice spikes dangling from the window.
Not a good day Jess was very sick this morning also popped her to the
doctors the little dwarf man was there he is a Rat in the pantomine with Joan Collins he was saying ,born little ,and today was dressed in a green
suit Jessica was amused he had a job to get off his seat when called and I was thankful I did not have to help him. I said to April he is a rat in the panto and she said bless her Is that why he needs a doctor I did laugh.

Michelle went to Marks and bought belly pork slices ,glazed veg ,apple sausages and a chocolate bomb filled with orange. I said are you feeding
us up she said I needed something to make my Christmas happy no baby
and a husband who cannot stay here .I said it will all come out in the wash
have you ever realised you have said the wrong thing. keep warm everyone I am freezing sitting by the window on the comp

Annx Report 21 Dec 2010 15:56

Oh dear Jane, sorry you aren't feeling great. Colin will be disappointed you aren't up to much fun!!

Well I thought I'd got everything, veg etc, but since I came home I've written 7 more items down already!! Custard powder, coffee.....running out of the basics. lol Early trip tomorrow I think.

Just as I have got round to transferring some VHS tapes to DVD, a disc has got stuck in the recorder and won't come out. I've tried switching things off, changing remote batteries, using the buttons on the machine.......nothing happens......the handbook is no help either. What a nuisance, will probably cost as much to be looked at as buy another.

I finally settled on the pattern for my xmas socks and sent OH up in the loft to get my pink box that has knitting needles in. (well he put it up there!!) Tonight I shall make a start on them, one red and purple stripes, the other red and green. If the needles are long enough I want to do them together to save time. The old prices were on some of the packets......cheap as chips, same with some old clothes patterns in the same box......35p!!! lol

Hi Sheila! glad your still ok.

Soup was lovely and we had two lots each!! Still some to add to tomorrow and make it go futher.

It's quite dark here now with this fog. Today is the shortest day so it's all up hill from here on.

Cleaner can't get out in her car so shan't see her before Christmas now. It has been thawing here a bit as it is dripping off the gutters.

Many Robin's around me again this morning and I am not sure how many come to my hand but think it is possibly just two of them.

Off to do the chickens again now and then some more ironing I think to warm me up.

It is one of those silient days here that make you feel closed in.............

Sheila Report 21 Dec 2010 13:31

They have promised more snow according to the weather forcast here before Christmas it would be nice if we did just have a flurry of snow but no such luck so far. I think it is amazing how some people have loads and others none. Please no more I say I like to decorate a fur tree with lights in the back garden but cannot get to it .It is not snowing now but so cold and our roads not been gritted.

I saw a robin looking for food this morning my bird house is covered in snow also. I will have to venture out and move it .

The front round the shop area is so iced up it is like artic conditions
here at the moment .I took some photoes but have to wait to finish the camera. I also cannot find the threads going by what I read last night.

Sheila Report 21 Dec 2010 13:11

Thank you Mandy for the beautiful embroidered Christmas Tree it was so sweet of you to take the time to do that card for me much appreciated.

Jane I do hope you are feeling better .

Poor David having such a lot of illness around him lets hope he will have a happy christmas and new year and sell his house quickly the housing market is not good here.

Fiona your ho and you were very clever to make such a lovely cake my ho once made a cake a fruit cake but forgot to put the fruit in it to please him I cut it in half and sandwiched it together with cream but it was a right
mess .Now I order a cake from a rep who brings us the sweets.I have a rough iced snow ball this year it is very cute.

Elder daughter and SIL have gone to see if he can stay here today the weather is awful and everywhere seems deserted.

I am hoping we are able to go to the supermarket on Thursday. With everything stuck in the post I think some people will be getting things after Christmas .My elder daughter ordered a special turkey for SIL from Kent and it was surposed to be with us yesterday.

Jane and Melenie thank you for your snowy scenes love to have pictures
of other peoples snowy conditions it makes me feel a bit better with about
9ft now in the garden and terrible road conditions. I am scared to venture out in my old car so have to rely on ho .

I shall be wondering if my son will be able to come over for Christmas Day he is snowed under in Malvern.Luckily he does have some holiday and does not have to travel to Worcestershire each day.But Christmas would not be the same without him.

April like every child loves the snow Uncle Bryne Ryan and Beanie built her a snowman she could not do it her hands were getting cold.

I loved Christmas with a nice big coal fire which was in the front room and
sitting cracking walnuts in front of it and eating a orange taking in piece by piece the flavour only seing one at Christmas.
I love orange and lemon slices and marzipan fruits. However I am not bothering this year due to my diabetic state.
I do not think I could prick my finger three times a day Shirl it makes me jump once a day but I know you are right!!!!!x

I feel very sorry for people who are ill or have lost a relative this Christmas thinking of the soldiers .I must pop up the road to check on my lady who is very old she wont leave her house .I did invite her for Christmas dinner.

I hope everyone is keeping warm have a nice day.
Sorry about your dad Fiona

The animals are being looked after in Wales Shirl by a farmer they were taken up to a farm called Cosy Nook . April said the barn was cosy but Rashers was very naughty and christened the place on arrival which did not please the farmer.
There is a field for her horse still called Princess and shes been learning to ride but was a bit nervous. So we will see how it goes when she returns home.

Morning now, Afternoon when I finish.

Hope Santa dosen't need you christmas eve Jane. Two shineing hooters will dazzel everyone.!!! Keep warm my love, and get plenty of TLC from COLIN!!!!

No more snow this morning, I have cleared Ros's car and they have gone to the Cinema.

Real Christmas smell in our house, have soaked the gammon on day yesterday. Changed the water. Boiled it with Carrot, onion, celery, bay leaves and pepper corns. All drained off and skin removed. Made my glaze. and baked for half an hour with all the cloves in. been baisting all the time. Going to put it in the fridge in the garage with a cover over till Christmas Eve. Must not forget to get it out.

Still no Snow in Rutland. They are going to meet up with us tomorrow for lunch (weather permitting) at a newish garden centre that a bit upmarket with their dinning hall. They also have a skating rink, but Lewis won't be able to go on it, as under fourteens have to have a adult with them. and I don't fancy my chances.

No 1 son will be coming up tomorrow evening to pick up Lewis. His mum is on holiday, so there is someone to look after him, and it will save them another trip on Friday Morning. and see us before Christmas, even though they will travel to Rutland Christmas day. Have just been told we are invited to Janes Daughters for Boxing day at Weldon. Nr. Corby. More driving for Ros.

Mandy have PM you.

Not going out myself today Jane, just keeping on top of the housework, mind you with only just me & OH living at home now, it's just a general tidy up every day, OH has decided to work from home till Christmas now, not just because of the weather, but a lot of the people from other works are closing up for christmas so they are not answering calls or e-mails.

well I off to get some lunch, BBL
