Good morning all, didn't have such a good night last night, couldn't get to sleep, then did and woke again 2 hours later, went on like that all night finally waking up at 0915.

I have still got a lot of post Christmas/holiday tidying up to do and am going out with a friend at 1.30pm. supposed to be going to Gloucester docks to take photos for photography group at the end of the month but it is not very nice so not sure what we will do.

Morning all,

The suns just trying to shine here this morning and pc says 8 degrees and cloudy. At the mo we have blue sky but as I awoke the sky was grey and the larch trees were bending in the wind.

HW today I think as I still have ironing to do and I need to tackle some cobwebs. They seem to appear just after I have hoovered up all the spiders I can see.

Hope Vera slept better last night as she needed it and hope the head dos'nt ache too much this morning.

What are you up to Anng?

There's posts from Will on the 1st and the 3rd and I think there could be another one too.

Well I hav'nt done a thing today except feed all the chickens and wild birds and do bacon and egg. I have just sat looking on the pc at various things. I seem to have lost my get up and go at the moment. I did take the recykling up the top as they come tomorrow and I did'nt put it out last week cos there was'nt much in the box.

I hope you sleep better tonight Vera and wake refreshed for the day ahead.

Mandy how's the Owl going? How many have you knitted now as I have lost count. I can remember the mouse the ram and thats all.

William, did you do a later post about researching Suffolk or is the post you are talking about the one that said:

"As I mentioned Suffolk as a subject for one of my poems I have been doing a bit of research and wishing that on the times I visited the county that I had taken more photos and done more sketches".

If so, that one was posted on 1st January and is still there. I'm sorry to hear that Carmel isn't too well and hope the antibiotics improve things for her.

OH did some jobs in the garden in sunshine this morning while I cooked his beloved Sunday roast dinner. As soon as we had eaten and I wanted to go out there it came over as black as the ace of spades and then the heavens opened. It stopped a little while ago but now the computer is telling me rain is starting again soon. It's got quite cold again as well.

Mel, my geraniums were past saving I'm afraid, so there was no point bringing them in to the conservatory and they had rotted too much to cut back. I just wish I could work out how they got so wet so I can make sure it doesn't happen again.

Mandy, I don't know why I am not sleeping at the moment but it is not through worry over the next eye injection. I was very apprehensive before the first one but now I know exactly what to expect I am quite calm about this next one. In fact, life generally is pretty good at the moment (apart from tiredness and headaches!) so it's not stress keeping me awake.

It sounds as though you had a good long session with your friend AnnG.

I've been at the computer upstairs for quite a while and I didn't put any heating on up here. I've just realised how cold I am so I'm going downstairs to get warm now. I hope we all have a good night and wake up tomorrow without any aches and pains.

That is strange William, you are right it has disappeared, I remember reading it. You didn't accidentally delete it I assume as nobody else is able to delete your posts. How weird.

It stayed dry until 2pm here but has rained a bit off and on. I went with my friend for coffee at 10.45 and got home ar 2.15, two cups of coffee and a chocolate brownie, missed lunch and just had a cup a soup when I got home. We were talking most of that time then just a quick wander round the garden centre. So nothing done at home today. :-D :-D

Well I don't know what is going on with this thread? I posted a message a couple of days ago and now I can't trace it! It was to the effect that I'm am researching Suffolk so that I can write a poem on it. Yes, I know I've been there a few times as it bordered on my native Essex but I like to get some facts into my 'pastoral poems' Especially where my illustrations are involved, but you won't be able to see them on here. My latest booklet of poems has sold well and I am just chasing up some that I sent by post. The strikes and holidays have delayed most of them and they are only just reaching the recipients.

Carmel hasn't been well these past few days and I had to get the local surgery involved to get her antibiotics. What with that and the weather I only seem to get out to go shopping, roll on spring, summer and some good health. Now I hear they are talking about snow on the way! Oh well, if that's the case, I'll just write a poem about it.
Have a good Sunday folks and I hope this message doesn't just disappear.

My shopping did come on the 5th in the end and now I had a job to get Tuesdays order to £40 but managed it in the end. I was getting worried about you as you had'nt posted for a few days. I sent you a pm.

I have ordered some lambs liver as oh would'nt eat liver I hav'nt had it for years. I shall enjoy that with a bit of mash and some kind of greens. Mum used to cook liver on a Saturday when I was young. Its supposed to be good for you so I'll give it a try and if I don't like it now I shall take it up to Hazel for the dogs.

Evening all,

Had a couple of busy days sorting out the cupboards and getting the Christmas bits put away ,today we went out and cut up the Christmas tree ready to take to the tip next week ,we have traffic lights in the town and the roads were gridlocked the past few days it was taking an hour just to get through the town .

I'm afraid my Geraniums will have had it as they weren't taken out of the pots .

We had two jigsaws for Christmas, one is a snowy scene with phone box, post box old car etc and the other is a swirl of flowers in blocks of colours looks a hard one so I'm not sure which one we'll start first we usually start one after Christmas.

Its been a drizzly day we were lucky it started just as we finished cutting up the tree but this afternoon the sky was that yellowish colour it did look strange .
Talking of cutting trees there was a chap in the churchyard yesterday cutting a tree not sure if it's being completely taken down but he cut lots of the thinner branches off and shredded them ,I expect he might be back on Monday to finish off as the tree does look dead we've been saying for ages that poor tree has had it , it's an elm.
It was quite fascinating watching him climb the tree ,he was just swinging by the rope at one point and the chain saw was swinging by another rope .

Sorry you had a few rough nights Vera do you think you have your hospital eye appointment on your mind ,hot an eady appointment to have to go too.

Mel I take it your shopping did turn up in the end ,did the driver say why it was so late in coming .

Anng hope your daughter and sil got home safely and didn't get any hold ups with the traffic.

I wondered about cutting them back a bit.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 7 Jan 2023 18:02

Mine got hit buy the frost in my shed and even the plant in the little plastic greenhouse in there. I brought mine in and put them in the lounge by my sewing machine in the west facing window and am hoping they shoot in the spring when I cut them down. Oh's money tree , big one that we usually bring in the lounge in the winter was put in my shed by BIL but thats had it and I had covered it up with some netting stuff too.

Just give them a chance and move them away from the windows and they may shoot once the better weather comes. I don't think Vera's that were in the poly greenhouse will be any good but you could tryng moving them to the conservatory and cut them back a bit.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 7 Jan 2023 16:53

Interesting about your geraniums Vera as that is how mine look, never seen that before and two of them were plants at least three years old and big plants too. I have left them for now I will have the garden group here next Thursday so will see if anyone has any ideas. This happened when I was away so not sure if there was a hard frost, strangely though there is a trough on the shelf by the window with three bedding geraniums in and they have survived. And also some cuttings have survived.

I seem to have been on the go all day today. I went to the hsop after doing a wash as it was sunny but then at 12.23pm the heavens opened and it poured with rain just as I was going up the shop. Did that in the rain and then dropped off Em's eggs and had a litle natter. Came home and had some toast and marmalade so I xcould take my pills. O I had put the slow cooker on this morning too with some mince and veg so I have something to put in the freezer for quick dinners. Then I opened a parcel that was given to me by the postman while I was in Em's. It was some things I ordered on ebay thinking they were dolls house size and when I realised I could'nt retract my bid so I had to pay for it and they are Dolly size so I think they will be going to SIL for her little sort of grandchild. She's really Eyla's aunt but she calls her gran. SIL's sister died and she more or less brought up her daughter who lived with them and then she met her hubby and they had Eyla so SIL is now gran.

Then I did some ironing which I am still doing but had to stop to corn the girls and I had to put some clean sawdust in the nest box and house. Then I have sat here and read your posts.

Hope you get a better night tonight Vera as you need some good sleep. Well I better get on with the ironing now and get that out of the way.

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 7 Jan 2023 13:08

It's grey, wet and windy. Apparently it's 9 degrees but feels a lot colder to me.

For the last few weeks I've been generally sleeping better but now I seem to be going through one of my periodic not sleeping sessions. I've had very little sleep over the last 3 nights so now my head is aching all the time and, although I am wearing plenty of clothes, I can't stop shivering which I think is down to tiredness. I'm a right grump at the moment :-(

I am interested in your geranium problem AnnG as I discovered yesterday that I have lost all my geraniums in the mini-greenhouse. The cuttings in the unheated conservatory seem to be fine and look green and healthy but it's a couple of dozen mother plants in the little plastic greenhouse that have given up. I looked at them a couple of weeks ago and they looked OK but the soil in the pots seemed very wet. I normally keep them dry so I asked OH if he had watered them and he said he hadn't touched them. On days when it has been a bit warmer we have opened up the front of the greenhouse to let in some air but we have closed it again late afternoon. Yesterday I found all the plants brown and wilted and it looked as though they had some form of mould or mildew. Good job I've got a few cuttings.

I can't understand why the plants were so wet. They haven't been watered since they were lifted in November. There doesn't appear to be any water or even condensation getting in the greenhouse - the inside walls are bone dry. I've never had a problem with geraniums before. It's a complete puzzle.

Lunch now and then I'm going to stay off the screen for a few hours as it's not doing my head or eyes any good at the moment.

AnninGlos Report 7 Jan 2023 10:13

It is a fairly unusual name, at the moment I can't recall where in the tree it appears but I think it is other half's tree so would be somerset, Dorset or Devon I think. Yes it would be a coincidence.

Checking the geraniums in the conservatory which is not heated at all, several of the larger scented ones have been hit by frost even inside there, not sure whether to leave them or throw them out.

howling gale and pouring rain here. 12 degrees.

Morning Anng and all,

We have sunshine here at present but how long it will last goodness only knows. We had lashing rain and high winds last night and it was a wonder the things were'nt blown all over the garden. Well they may have been as I hav'nt ventured out yet. Not been up long and I went to bed earlier last night.

Not sure if BIL is coming today but I think not as he will want to go over Exmoor to take pictures. Suits me as I may be able to do some craft stuff.

We,ve not heard from Mandy for a while now so I hope all is ok and she's just busy with the children and her knitting.
