Mel Fairy Godmother Report 12 Dec 2022 09:50

Morning all,

Very hard frost here this morning so I don't think I will get to Holsworthy for chickens food but the sun is trying to shine so it may thaw a bit. Its one of those days where its cloudy out the front and brighter in the back. Having said that it is -3 here on the pc and says partly sunny.

I heard a rumble yesterday and wondered what on earth it was then thought it must be the snow coming off the solar panels and when I went round to the chickens it was but it let a bit more sun o the panels.

What a dreadful journey your nephew had Gwyn it must have been a bit frightening for him. I hope he had plenty of fuel.

I wonder how the others are fairing? We hav'nt heard from Ann or Mandy. I hope Ann's hubby is'nt suffering with his tooth and he can get it fixed soon.

Sending love to all past and present. <3 <3 <3

Gwyn in Kent Report 12 Dec 2022 09:28

Good morning everyone.
I hope you are well this cold morning.

AnnG ..That was a long time for grandson's journey yesterday. I can visualise his route and it must have been an anxious time waiting for him to turn up. Good to know that he made it safely home again.

The weather is quite regional, it seems.
Yesterday, we met up with my nephew, as arranged for lunch in Rye, Sussex.
It has really 'Olde Worlde' charm, especially at this time of year.
After lunch we exchanged presents and set off home. We were travelling east and saw just a hint of snow on car rooftops and some pavements in one little town on our way. He was travelling back to Surrey and never made it home :-( He had to shelter somewhere, because the snow was coming down so fast that he couldn't see to drive safely. I will be pleased when the message comes through to say that he has safely reached home.

I looked out of the window this morning wondering what on earth I would see, but we are snow-free and not even a hint of frost here. The bird bath has filled with yesterday's rain and no sign of ice.
Daughter works from home and when she went online with her colleagues earlier, many have quite different weather, some with quite heavy snow and one with no electricity near Canterbury.
I think we've come off lightly here

AnninGlos Report 12 Dec 2022 08:52

Good morning all. Still a lot of snow on the ground but now completely frozen of course so many of our roads may be lethal. All Goucestershire schools (except one determined to stay open), are closed as many live out in the Cotwolds or forest of Dean areas where it is impossible to get the school buses for a start.

Don't know if I said (probably did), but Grandson got home ok by going the longer motorway route. I was so pleased to hear that he was home.

Mel you will have to keep your car driven now as it could be that your battery is on the way out.

Hope everyone is snow or ice free this morning. I am so glad that I don't have to go into work. and we would have been expected to get in, no snow leave or working from home for us. If anyone else from our area got it that was that, no pay.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 11 Dec 2022 19:51

Just realised I had'nt posted today. Sorry for being late on parade but I need chickens food and the car would'nt start as the battery was completely flat. Ed came round and went to put my big mobile charger on it but when he clipped the clips on the first one broke so he wedged that on and then the second one also broke. We put oh's charger on the car but that was taking ages so he went and got his one. We put that on and it was on most of the afternoon but it charged it up a treat.

If we don't get any more snow and the frost clears in the morning I may go then. Ed said the main roads are clear but its getting up our drive that may be a problem.

Was bidding on ebay again today and I lost one but got another so that was good.

Well they finally got here just before two having left waterlooville at about 0915.
Over four hours to do a journey that doesn’t usually take two.. and with a young dog in the car too who was bouncing by the time they got here. They left just before four to go home, it had stopped snowing but started again. So now I have to wait until I hear they are home.

Still snowing here and 0 degree. snow looks quite wet, just hoping it is only Glos that has it so the rest of the journey will be OK. I won't rest until they get here.

SuffolkVera Report 11 Dec 2022 09:38

No snow here but -3 and earlier it was very foggy though that is clearing now. I hope your grandson has a safe journey AnnG.

I pulled up the last of the annual begonias from a trough yesterday. The frost eventually got them but I’ve never had them blooming so late before. I still had some nemesia in flower in a pot but it looks as though the frost has killed off those blooms today. It will probably come back in the spring.

I'd better brave the outside and go and defrost the bird bath. Have a good day and stay wrapped up warm.

Good morning all. Well I will definitely be staying home today. It is -2 and there is a blizzard outside and the snow is laying. Unfortunately my third Grandson is due to drive here and back from Hampshire today to collect presents so I am hoping this lot clears up a bit later, he does have a pretty big 4x4 vehicle Not a Range Rover but similar so it is pretty solid on the road. He is a good driver too so fingers crossed.

Wonder what Mandy and Ann are up to??

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 10 Dec 2022 17:12

That was kind of him to take you to Tesco and carry your shopping.

It stopped snowing for a while and then we had a little light rain. Postman came very late afternoon so more tracks down the garden road. I hope it dos'nt freeze too much tonight cos it will be like an icing rink down the road tomorrow. at the mo we have sort of sleet but it not much. Pc says its stopping soon but its only 1 degree.

I am just about to make sausage rolls which I forgot to do this morning!!! Had it all in the fridge ready and completely forgot. I shall have some for my tea so it will save me cooking later on.

AnninGlos Report 10 Dec 2022 13:30

Very sunny here and no snow as yet, please keep it there Mel. It is 3 degrees here now.
Jay left here at about 12. He took me to Tesco first, did all the packing and carrying of bags. Then took me round to Norton where we had coffee and he had a scone (no breakfast of course) and I had an eccles cake.  I have to say he is a very considerate and safe driver these days (must be driving the buses), I felt very safe driving with him. And yes he is a very thoughtful and kind young man I am proud of him. he has a lot to worry him as His wife, since having the second baby (who is a year and almost 2 months now) has mental health issues, many anxiety attacks, thinks people are talking about her, has mild depression and is now supposedly borderline autistic. She likes where they live but doesn't get to know anyone (it is very cliquey in that area (North Cumbria) and she comes from way down in South Devon. And their eldest daughter (6) also is suspected as having mild autism and can be very challenging stubborn and determined to do and have what she wants. So wife clings to J which is a bit smothering so it was good for him to have time away to himself. She was on the phone this morning asking when he would be back. I should add she is only five minutes from my daughter and she does drive. and I think eldest daughter is with her Nanny my daughter this morning to see Father Christmas etc.

Anyway it was good to see him and I will wait now to hear he is safely home.

Thank you for your card Mandy, it just arrived. :-)

Its stopped snowing now and Ed's been with my shopping from the shop and now I have great big tyre tracks down my road. It has started to melt a bit,OOOOO just looked out the window and its snowing again!!!!!!!!!!

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 10 Dec 2022 11:34

Keep the snow down there please Mel. Thick white frost everywhere this morning so it looks like snow. At the moment it’s -1 but might get to 0 in the next hour and that seems to be the highest the temperature is going to go. OH went out a while ago and de-iced the bird bath. It’s definitely a Brrr.... sort of day.

I’m going to have our main meal around 1.30 today instead of this evening so I got it in the slow cooker early. I’m using the washing machine and tumble dryer today to wash a load of towels plus the dishwasher is on so I dread to think how much electricity I am using. Oh well, it’s only money.

AnnG, I think we do in time get used to things like being on our own but it’s nice to break the monotony with a visit and your grandson sounds a lovely fella

Not sure what I am going to do for the rest of the day. I might put a coat on and venture into our unheated conservatory to check over the pots that have come in from the garden and check if any of my cuttings have rooted.

Enjoy your day whatever you are doing and stay warm.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 10 Dec 2022 09:17

Morning all,

I could'nt believe it when I looked out the window and thought it was a hard frost. Came into the kitchen and the car and road are covered and the grass is'nt so much.

I have asked Em if Ed would go to the shop for me as I am sure the car is not going to start and if it did I don't think it would get up the hill on the way to the hsop as water is always running down there so its bound to be icy. I don't need to be stuck anywhere but inside home as I have the girls to think about too.

Not sure if BIL was coming again today or not so better ring him.

Morning Mel,Ann and all

Brrr..... it's just edged up to -2 here, very frosty. Snow wasn't forecast so I assume it's frost, very white and cold anyway,
I'm on the laptop early keeping an eye on a 8-5.30 delivery. I think it's safe to get washed and dressed at the moment.

Ann, nice to have company, I think I'm a long way off wanting my space back. Nice that your grandson enjoys chatting with you.

Mel, enjoy your snow. I don't mind you keeping it to yourself ;-)

AnninGlos Report 10 Dec 2022 07:58

Good morning all. I think we have a hard frost but it is still quite dark so It could be a dusting of snow. Grandson is still in bed, he needs his sleep as in his job he often has 5am starts so sleep is precious, I had forgotten how I actually enjoy my own space. Being on my own for 2 years I have got out of the way of sitting talking instead of watching TV. They don't have TV so he is nor used to watching anything although he did watch Susan Calman in the Lake District. Talking non stop from 2pm until 10pm I was quite exhausted. (well more he talks I listen). But it is lovely to see him.
