Mel Fairy Godmother Report 7 Dec 2022 08:07

morning Anng and all,

There was a frost here earlier yesterday evening and then when I went out much later it had all gone off the wood around the ponds but was still on the car roof.

Its 4 degrees here and cloudy so the pc says.

Busy today with all sorts so see you all later on.

Good morning all Might be a light frost out there as it is minus one but It doesn't look like there is now The cars are not frosted. I think a bit of housework is on the menu for today as I have nothing else on. Definitely need to dust downstairs as I have the garden group here tomorrow.

Thanks Vera it was a great garden centre, had grown since I last saw it about four years ago. It is now part of the British garden centre group. Quite a nice garden centre, plants looked good but the main thing was the huge marque area where they had the most fantastic display of Christmas decorations, many of which I had not seen anywhere else. It was not expensive either. I just bought small ornament, a gnome who sits on the edge of furniture and his long skinny legs with big boots hang down. There were some beautiful Christmas ornaments but pointless when going away for Christmas and just me here. But the main reason I wanted to go was to get a couple of garden gift vouchers and I did that. Then we called in to my friends to see her decs, she has over 60 Father Christmas ornaments from about two inches high to quite big. She also has a collection of penguins and another of snowmen.. then we came here so she could see my cottages. We didn’t go until three and we’re back at 4.45 but it was a good trip out, Inenjoyed it.

Afternoon all

It’s been very cold today but dry and we even saw a gleam or two of sun.

That was nice of your friend to offer to take you to that garden centre AnnG. I hope you enjoyed it.

That’s sensible to order new lights Mel rather than take a chance with a broken wire. OH bought a couple of strings of tiny lights to hang along the gutter the other day but forgot to get batteries and we had just used the last of that size so I must remember to get some.

That’s good that you’ve got more online courses booked Ann. I know you enjoy them.

Yes, Island, it’s sometimes hard to get motivated but try and get back to your machine embroidery. All these hobbies help to pass the time and it will probably give you a lot of pleasure once you get going.

I did find my scarf Mandy. I knew I had been in the house when I took it off so I tried to visualise it and remembered I was in the bedroom upstairs. Then I remembered that while I was there the doorbell rang and I got a picture in my mind of me throwing the scarf onto the trouser press. Of course it had slipped down the back but not right down where I would have seen it. It had caught half way down on the arm that supports the jacket hanger bit. It’s back in its drawer now.

This afternoon I’ve been to the Ladies Club Christmas tea. At the last meeting we all put our name down to take a food item on the list and I opted for a few sandwiches to make life easy for myself. There was more than enough food and the committee provided mulled wine, tea and coffee. You wouldn’t think a group of older ladies could make so much noise! We also had a secret Santa and I got a nice set of 3 hand creams.

Tomorrow we are going on a coach trip to Holkham Hall. We have been there a couple of times before but never for their Christmas decorations and lights. We have a longish stop in Holt first and will probably have lunch there. The weather is promising to be very cold and there is a yellow warning of ice so I think I’m going to need lots of warm layers.

Morning all,

We have sunshine at the mo and its dry but cold and 5 degrees and pc says cloudy so I suppose the sun won't last long before it decides to go behind some clouds.

I ordered new lights on Amazon. They are only battery lights and the little tiny rice lights as anything else would be to heavy to go up there. Its looking rather bald at the mo but I will put the red berries on it today and my lovely rose hips.

AnninGlos Report 6 Dec 2022 07:43

Good morning all 3 degrees, very cloudy, no frost though as far as I can see.

a free morning but friend realised I was feeling 'down' because of change of plans, she knows how we oldies look forward to family visits (OK I know it is only postponed a few days) so is taking me this afternoon, to a local garden centre that I have not been to for about 5 years. It is a smaller one but, since I went, under different management I think so will be interesting to see what they do. No cafe unfortunately. and then to her house to see her Christmas decs (she collects Father christmas ornaments, and then to mine for her to see my tree. She was widowed the February before me.

Island that sounds really frustrating. I am assuming you tried the shut down completely and restart cure? I don't have Hotmail so can't help. I will check among my friends to see if anyone else has the problem.

Island

Island Report 5 Dec 2022 19:00

This new hotmail layout is driving me mad. Conversations have been condensed and I'm sure some sent items have disappeared. Apologies to anyone who I haven't replied to or thought I had but it's been eaten.
Mel. I've just discovered some emails from you in my inbox, which I rarely look at, except for online things when expected, instead of the allocated folder - no idea how that happened :-S Apologies for that. :-(

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 5 Dec 2022 18:37

Island I have that happen, or it appears in the middle of the email to which you are replying so annoying.

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 5 Dec 2022 18:33

Oh thats so annoying finding they don't work after you've put them up Mel , yes perhaps you could treat yourself to some new ones from the garden centre .
I bought some new lights for our inside tree as when I brought the old ones down and tried them there was a bulb out and I remember last year saying there's a bulb out but I had already got them on the tree and they flickered a bit then , the old ones had bulbs you could change and we'd already used the spare bulbs ,you can't seem to buy the spares anymore but these new ones are LED ones so if a bulb goes you can't replace them .
I was reading the other day about a chap who had turned his tree lights on for the fifty third time ,don't think I would like chancing them at that age I'd be worried they might catch light .

Island

Island Report 5 Dec 2022 18:26

Thanks Mel. I googled it and got two versions, both C&W - neither were what I had in mind :-S How strange....
Be careful with those lights, as AnnG says - buy some new ones. There might be more breaks in the wire.
Very annoying when posts disappear, happens to me sometimes - and typing plonks itself into the middle of text further up when I type emails. :-|

Just wrote a load and lost the lot.

I put the garland up over the double doors and the big cone in the middle. Got the rice lights out and put new batteries in them and put it along the garland and turned them on and only a few lit up. Down it came again and there is one of the tiny wires broken. I wonder if I put a bit of fuse wire acrss it and taped it up would it work?????? They are my only set of warm white lights as the other two sets are coloured. Blast....... :-|

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 5 Dec 2022 17:06

here you go Island.

Put another log on the fire.
Cook me up some bacon and some beans.
And go out to the car and change the tire.
Wash my socks and sew my old blue jeans.
Come on, baby, you can fill my pipe
And then go fetch my slippers.
And boil me up another pot of tea.
Then put another log on the fire babe,
And come & tell me why you're leaving me.

Now don't I let you wash the car on Sunday?
And don't I warn you when you're gettin fat?
Ain't I a-gonna take you fishin' with me someday?
Well, a man can't love a woman more than that.
And ain't I always nice to your kid sister?
Don't I take her driving every night?
So, sit here at my feet cause I like you when you're sweet,
And you know it ain't feminine to fight.

So, put another log on the fire.

Afternoon Mandy, had a good look round town while waiting for the battery I gave him an hour, even managed to fit in a coffee while waiting. Battery was only £25 so I was pleased about that but it is quite an old phone the newer Iphone batteries are dearer. I was looking for a thicker type of sweater, there only seem to be thin ones around at the moment but I managed to find a thicker one in Bon March, not as thick as I would have liked though but it will do.

Forgot to say Ann that is good finding two courses to look forward to.

Afternoon all,

I don't think it's quite as cold out today we nipped to the tip this morning to get rid of garden rubbish thats been hanging about and it was quite nice in the sun then down came the rain but it didn't last long and we got home in the dry .

Vera thats the first injection over and it did sound nasty with all the pain you had after it .
Has the scarf turned up, you've had it in your hand and done another job and laid it down somewhere I expect.

Oh no Ann you've done one job in the car and made another lol I know when Colin has the battery off the car that takes the radio out and if the clock needs going back or forwards when the clocks alter we get son to do it for us as I'm not sure what buttons to press.

Mel it will be nice for you to go out to the garden centre ,I can see you having a good spend up ,make a list as your sure to forget something .

Anng hope you've enjoyed your trip to town and managed to get ths battery sorted for your phone .

Island I had not seen that, the poor man, I hope people have looked after him and replaced his clothes. What sort of evil person could do that. As you say it is sometimes an awful world we live in.

Instead of coming today until tomorrow, Grandson is coming Friday until Saturday. He has all week off so can do that (he is a bus driver). He has to be here before Sunday though as that is when the presents move south as other grandson and his wife drive over to collect them and take them back to Hampshire. Christmas is very complicated in this family.

Island

Island Report 5 Dec 2022 12:47

What a horrible world we live in.
I've just been reading about a homeless man who was chased through the streets of Cleethorpes by a gang. Later his tent was set alight while he slept in it, destroying everything he had.
It's nice for us to have the luxury of reaching out and sharing what we have on chat forums and FB but I really feel for the likes of this man. :-(
