Gwyn in Kent Report 16 May 2025 15:05

Just popping in to say 'Hello'.

I try to read the thread most days, but I have zero energy at the moment and spend much of the day resting or dozing ;-)

I can't concentrate on anything for very long and even small tasks are tiring.
Today I took the last of my antibiotics, so I hope they've worked their magic and I will soon feel better.
I can at least get upstairs now without getting breathless.
Daughter is looking after me really well and willing to cook whatever I want, but I've lost all interest in food, although I am drinking plenty.
We settled on egg sandwiches for tea last night.

Good to see you are back in the fold, Mel.

Hope to be back with you before too long.

Frustrating for me having spare time and hearing about the pot planting going on when I dare not plant any more before going away. there ia enough for cynth to water as it is. One of the tomatoes hhas already given up so has been binned I do have surplus so that is not too bad at the moment. I think that was the one that got scorched whe the conservatory got hot when I was out. The tumbler still doesn not look healthy but is still alive so hopefully when we eventually get some rain it will be ok.
Not the time of year that you can have the air con playing up at least with the hot weather we have had. Having said that, it is not that long ago that we didn't have air con in cars. It was just 'open the window'.
Your life today Ann seems to be a tale of 'well laid plans!' So solicitor another day.
I assume the blood thinners are not helping the wound to heal. Sounds as if the plaster need to stay on a while longer. If it is open enough to bleed it can let germs in from soil in the garden.

Morning All,

Warmer with a bit of breeze today. We lost connectivity with SKY last night and OH was really tetchy as I tried to reboot the box. He seems to think I should know how to operate the big telly where the sky box is, but I never watch it these days as he always has sport on!! He gave up and said there must be a problem with the line and went to bed, so I tried again then and got it working, but only for 5 minutes. I did it again this morning and it's fine now.

He had to go for more blood tests first thing this morning and we were then going to the solicitor as she wanted a copy of something and lists from us both. I did the photocopy and told him it was next to his PC on the table to remind him to do his list. So Mr Tidiness decided to move it off the table into a pile of his other papers and forgot about his list! We had planned to have poached eggs on toast at Morrisons nearby after the solicitor and I needed a few more of the plants I got yesterday from the garden centre that wasn't far from there, so we went but left going to the solicitor. On the way the garage rang wondering why OH's car wasn't there for the service and MOT!! He'd had to ring them over a week ago and re-arrange it for next Friday due to his blood test this morning, but they hadn't noted anything in their book, so I don't think they were convinced. Then we noticed we were getting very hot in the car and found the aircon wasn't working. We tried all sorts, temperature full on then low, full blast to no avail, but on the way home just OH's side started working again but mine wasn't. Another thing to sort out! I bit my tongue and said nothing, but there's always been a problem with one side hotter than the other, but he never got it sorted out even while the car was under warranty.

I'm beginning to despair. I took his plaster off his hand yesterday afternoon and everything was dry and healed over nicely. This morning he pushed his hand hard enough in his jeans pocket to scrape and start it bleeding again. More plasters!

That is a strange problem with genes AnnG. I'm waking around 6.00am lately and think it is the light mornings in my case. I must try going on genes then and see if I have any trouble.

Vera and Mandy are putting me to shame with getting jobs done so I'd better go and plant up the pots each side of the arbour near the field.

Good to see you back Mel what was the problem and who fixed it for you?

Your meal last night sounds nice. Glad Stu enjoyed it.

Lucky the weather is warm then if they didn't deliver the oil. don't they let you know if they were unable to access it?

Yes that building is lovely, it is not far from the cathedral ane there are several old buildings along there but none as lovely as that one. all the buildings are close together but the alley between the others (where there is an alley) are much wider. I dread to think if there was a fire, there was some years ago in one further down the street.

:-D :-D :-D :-D :-D I'M BACK :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

mORNING ALL,

iTS A BEAUTIFUL DAY HERE AND ITS 17 DEGREES AND VERY SUNNY WITH ONLY A COUPLE OF WHISPY WHITE CLOUDS IN THE SKY.

iTS SO GOOD TO BE BACK AS i HAVE MISSED IT SO MUCH FEELING ISOLATED.

Sorry did'nt mean to shout but i'm not typing that again.

Stu came last night for dinner and he enjoyed the home cooked ham. He came down on his electric byke instead of his car. We had the ham with carrots brocc, mash, and creamy leeks and even though I say it myself it was delish. Not cooked that dinner for a long while.

Lovely pics of the old building Anng and what a lot of work to save such a wonderful building. It looks good now for a few more hundred years bt its a shame it is so close to other buildings.

Annx thanks for letting the other know I could'nt get on here and hope G's cut is healing well now. If I have a cut that keeps bleeding I put vasaline on it and then the plaster. It heals well like that.

Vera can you come and do some of my ironing please as with the nice weather Iv'e done loads of washing but hav'nt ironed it!

My oil was supposed to come yesterday and it did'nt turn up so I have to ring them this morning to see why. I bet its because they did'nt send the small tanker. I must go and clear the old greenhouse BIL has dumped by the oil tank or they won't be able to get to it.

O its so nice to be able to geton here and now feel like you are all there for me if I need you. Thank you for being my friends. XXXXX <3

I spoke too soon. The sun has gone in and the wind has got up again. It’s a cold wind as well. I’ve given OH’s new shirts a rinse through to get out the “dressing” before he wears them and they are blowing away on the line. I’ve also had a good hoover through downstairs. Yesterday’s h/w and ironing gave me backache so with what I’ve done this morning I feel shattered and it’s barely 10 o’clock. If I can find some energy I could get some gardening done. Perhaps a coffee will put some life back into me ;-)

Morning all,

Another cloudy day should only get to about 16 /17 degrees ,yesterday was really chilly all day I had a cardi on but I did get dusted and hoovered right through .
Yesterday we drained one of ths water butts to give it clean out ,it collects water from the little wood shed and I've been using water from it so it was getting low, hopefully we'll soon get rain to fill it again, they get all sludgy in ths bottom so it will need the hose in to clean it .
Hair cut day today

Good morning all 10 degrees and sunny here, better than the grey morning yesterday but no rain so more watering to do. I do like this weather as, even if it is too hot outside, it is lovely to look out at.

Had the usual (lately) problem with being up at 0615 and not being able to download Genes until after 0730. It is very strange, but not a real problem. Would just be interesting to know why. I am tending towards it being Firefox rather than anything else. It is not Wifi as I got into face book, Gmail and the Mail on line sites with no problem. The other day I also could not get on via my Ipad but I didn't try that this morning. I have actually emailed Support to see if they can offer an answer.

Good morning

It looks like it’s going to be nicer than yesterday’s cold, grey day. It’s started sunny and is about 9 degrees.

I didn’t go to our coffee meet yesterday though OH did. I did a pile of ironing and, at long last, gave the conservatory floor a good scrub up. In the afternoon I did some other jobs while OH went to our local men’s shop and got 5 more shirts - all the sort that will need ironing, groan. Not sure what I’ll do today. I might make it another h/w day.

Hope your internet is fixed soon Mel. Enjoy your bacon joint.

I’ve had my first cuppa and I can hear OH up and about so I’d better get going. Have a good day everyone.

Afternoon All,

It's much cooler and quite cloudy today so I'm off to the garden centre in the sticks next while OH has an online talk to listen too. The greenhouses there will hopefully be cooler today so I can bear it in there to have a proper look.

These driving test delays are a nuisance Mandy and I expect a lot of people are booking them earlier than they would normally. I hope Jake passes his theory test this time. Two of our neighbours used to have children with their grandchildren visit every week but we never see them now. Once they are teenagers they just want to be out with their friends like we did!

That's a good age for your rose AnnG and it sounds like Jake's treatment cutting it right back may have given it a new lease of life.

Vera that was a good point Mandy made about making noise to attract attention and I wouldn't have thought about it either. I will now if a noise is persistent though.

Mel texted me and is feeling it is a long while till Monday when she gets help with her internet. :-(

No sign of Mel yet then?

Been to the chiropodist. Felt very weary in town so disn't do too much just wandered a bit. Went in M&S for coffee but if I wanted to use the Sparks App I needed to log on and reset my password. When I tried to do it, with the small keys on my phone and my lack of patience, I mis typed and now have to wait 24 hours before trying again so I didn't buy anything in there.

Morning Anng ,morning all,

Cloudy here and quite chilly I woke in the night and was cold .
A day for doing a few inside jobs , a bit of dusting and hoovering upstairs I think

Anng the rose has done well then if its 35 years old ,sounds as if it liked the good cutting back it would be a shame if you lost it its a pretty rose .

Wonder if Mel will try to post with her tablet again .

Good morning all. cloudy here this morning so a bit grey but 9 degrees. We are not forecast rain but who knows I could get wet going to town for the chiropodist. I didn't have a bad night last night but nor so good as usual has been..

I meant to say about the roses. The large red ones in the first 3 photos were in this garden when we moved in, we have normally just let the plant be (It is only one plant. Each year it has had 2 or maybe 3 reluctany roses on it. It is about 35 years old. No idea why it is so full of blooms this year. I have counted about 15 and the flowers are large. It could be the weather but it is the first time it has been cut down so low. I bet this is its final fling and it will die now.

Mandy, this afternoon we just assumed he was making something but this evening I went to close our study window which is upstairs and overlooks some of their garden. I could see him doing something around his summer house. It has stopped now as it is too dark to see.

That’s a good point about him maybe trying to attract attention. I should have thought of it but it didn’t cross my mind. It’s unlikely that both he and his wife would be incapacitated and unable to reach a phone. Their daughter lives locally and they have our phone number and probably those of other neighbours. But I should have done a bit of discreet checking just in case.

Ann Jake has another theory test I think he said this Friday, if he can just pass that I think the Instructor might put him in for a test because there's such a long waiting list now .
Yes they are all growing up we don't see so much of them now ,son always seems to be running one of them somewhere or picking them up .

Vera have you checked if they are OK next door ,he's not banging to get someone's attention is he ,seems strange to be banging this late .

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 14 May 2025 20:40

Annx, it was Boots that referred OH to Newmedica. They did give OH the choice of that or the hospital and he said he'd go to the one with the shortest waiting list. I wasn't given the choice because I've been having eye treatment at the hospital so they want to do the cataracts there. The doctors and other staff are great but the waiting area is dreary, the parking is expensive and you can't even get a cup of coffee at the eye treatment centre. There's also a long waiting list.

OH hasn't mentioned wrinkles (his or mine) but he's boring me silly by constantly telling me how bright everything looks.

Next door on one side we have really lovely neighbours who are usually very considerate but all afternoon the man has been hammering away at something in his garden and is still at it. One or two of the other people in our quiet little Close go to bed quite early so I am wondering how long the hammering is going on. What can he be making that requires constant banging?

Annx Report 14 May 2025 19:09

Yes I was a bit confused about Mel's PC too Vera, but I would think the issue must be the internet connection to her PC. I remember having a disabled wireless adapter causing connection problems on just my PC once when I was doing those art courses. I don't even know whether her PC is wireless. My first thing is to switch off the router and restart it to see if that works!

I'm glad you got a bit of sleep last night and it's good the clinic was happy with your OH's eye and have booked him in for the other eye to be done. Has he noticed more wrinkles since like OH did when he had his done? I was well pleased when they sent me to the Spamedica private hospital under the NHS to assess my eyes for the cataracts to be done a couple of years ago. I suppose when Boots eventually agree to refer me it will be to an NHS hospital next time which, like you, I suspect won't be as good, with no free parking and a busy journey. I see you have had a busy day too, but with more shopping success for your OH! Yes, that did seem mean of that person to not leave a donation for the book, but I suppose they may not have carried any change. They could have asked the shop to hold it for them for a few days and gone back though.

Annx Report 14 May 2025 18:47

I still haven't managed to repot my Hostas Mandy as they are in so tight. I think I have an old carving knife in the garage somewhere that I used to trim the lawn edges next to the concrete path at my old house that might cut through the roots once they die down in the autumn. You managed to have a good shop today and it must have been strange being served by Jake. I can't believe he's going to be 20 now! How are his driving lessons and that written test going now? Chelsea must be a young lady now too. I was shocked to see how much the younger 'Owens' had grown on the TV prog. Young Violet already aged 14 and baking for the family.

I was so keen to not be late getting to the hairdresser I forgot to ask how long it would take for the car part to come. Steve probably didn't like to say in case he let me down if he was wrong! At least it shouldn't take long to do, but of course they will have to strip the door down again now. They've said not to slam the door, so I've told OH (the door slammer!) and he laughed and says he's not even getting in the car till it's fixed unless he has to! lol. :-D I'm being careful about potholes and road humps too.

The Buzzard has been back with it's mate today and flying very close to the tree where the Magpie nest is several times. It seems to be watching and waiting, poor things.
