Mel Fairy Godmother Report 2 Feb 2025 17:01

The fence is'nt really fixed now but its stANDING UP at least. Pc is telling me rainn on Tuesday. Its been dry all day and we did get a little brightness for a while.

What a todo with the Scotch Pancakes. I read the wrpong recipe to start with so I had too much flour, I had put in 8 oz instead of 6 but I had all the other ingredience in there and tried to do a couple and they were horrid. First I had to put in 1/2 teaspoon of cream of tartar and 1 of bicarb and a pinch of salt. Still readng the other recipe I pout in a teaspoon of salt so tried to take it out but must have taken the other stuff out too. I had to start all over again and I now have a huge plate full of pancakes. I did'nt know where to chuck the other mixture but I think I may cook it in one and cut it up for the birds.

A disarster of a day and a waste of milk egg and flour. Iv'e not eaten anything much yet either just a couple of the pancakes to see if they were alright.

Afternoon All,

Seems a bit warmer today with a little sunshine.

It's a jolt in OH's car too AnnG! Both of our cars have cruise control too and the speed limiter, but we've never got round to using them. Even when OH did so much mileage he never bothered with them. It's the feeling you've lost control like Mandy said. I wish I had electrically heated wing mirrors though for when it's frosty. I'd even be grateful for a rear windscreen wiper on mine!

AnnG they were much quicker than I expected when they fitted our new garage door. It will be good to get it done. It's a shame you need a new desk top as well, but a new one should be reliable and last well. OH has hundeds of CDs, not many are my taste though. You got quite a bit done in the garden if you've half filled your bin.

Mandy I bet Jake is excited to be learning to drive. I remember I couldn't wait to have the freedom of going where I wanted to visit my friends, as my parents had moved house to the country a couple of years before and I hardly saw them since. I bet the meat Jake gets from the butchers is very good.

It's good you are getting more eggs again Mel and handy they lay different coloured eggs so you can tell which are laying. Is the fence fixed now?

Just went out for another ten minutes to cut a bit more off the buddleia. 8 degrees here now.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 2 Feb 2025 13:35

You've done well in the garden Ann. Its too cold out there today for me to go out and do anything. I am just going to make some drop scones so I can have them for tea.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 2 Feb 2025 12:56

Yes Mandy but hopefully both will see me out.??

I am sorting through the hoard of CDs in this house, keeping the ones I like and some can go to Irene for charity. It is annoying though when I find empty cases. T has probably had those in his car and they will have been left there.

I have just spent an hour in the garden. It is a beautiful day, I didn’t even need a coat, just had a sweater on. I have got a half full brown bin now for Tuesday.

Morning all,

Dry this morning and Iv'e not been up long so don't know if there was a frost. Iv'e had another nose bleed, not one that runs but when I blow my nose it starts. Iv'e put my cream up it as the doc told me but I think the dates run out so I better ask for some more.

Mandy I have 5 girls altogether, three white ones the newer ones and two old black ones. They are not laying but they must be 6 or 7 years od. I maybe will get a couple of brown eggs in the summer. The white ones lay either white or greeny blue eggs.

Has Jake driven a car before? I do hope he gets on ok. He'll love it and it will make him so much more independant once he has passed his test.

Oh's Audi had cruise control which is very handy on places where this is a long speed limit. It also had heated seats which was lovely in the very cold weather.

Had my picky salad and througherly enjoyed it with a slice of bread to mop up the juices.

Hope the op went off ok and he gets on alright at home. I did'nt know they could replace discs. Yes the girls are laying better now and I am getting three eggs some days.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 1 Feb 2025 21:23

T’s Lexus had cruise control but none of the other gizmos. Son in law’s car has the lane adjuster it is quite disconcerting sitting in the back if it corrects the car as it is a real jolt usually only happens on the motorway if the lanes are narrow.

MillymollyAmanda

MillymollyAmanda Report 1 Feb 2025 20:57

I'll set an extra place Mel what time will you be here lol

Yes the lift will be handy for getting the ironing upstairs.

Another thing on sons car is he can set the speed ,say thirty and he can take his foot off the accelerator and then as soon as he puts his foot on it again it takes it off and he's got control again ,I must say I wasn't keen when he did that ,it was like he didn't have control of the car .
The hairdressers husband should have been operated on about lunch time today ,they wanted him on his feet tonight and he should be home tomorrow, what about coming home that quick after an op like that ,he said he could only sit for twenty minutes but he could lay but not bend down

I keep meaning to say Jake has his first driving lesson this coming Tuesday.

I have two tiny snow drops in flower I noticed them yesterday.

You and OH have been busy today getting the HW done Vera. Your OH's dusting sounds much like my OH, but it still helps as you say.Thank you for the info about those tablets. OH wasn't taking enough of the painkillers, as he is like me and takes as few as he can.

Yes I will get more used to OH's car controls the more I drive it, but I hate driving in the city now. I worked in the city for nearly 40 years, going in most weekdays, but the volume and speed of the traffic nowadays isn't pleasant and the signage and road markings are poor. What other city has a bus lane going down the middle of a road or a cycle lane between two car lanes? I suppose it's getting the same elsewhere though.

This car is the same Mandy and AnnG. My old car has 6 gears and I can cope with that as just 1 thing, but OH's car tries to pull you back if you start to change lanes as it thinks you are fallling asleep! It beeps if you are anywhere near a speed camera (handy), more beeps if it thinks you are close to anything. What is useful is that it displays the speed limit where you are on a clear screen in front of you together with the speed you are doing. I expect most new cars are the same now. I'm sure I read somewhere that garages can't sell them unless they have speed limiters on now that slow the car down if it exceeds the speed limits.

That's good you got the stair lift fixed in place Mandy. It's there for whenever it's needed now and you can use it to take things up or downstairs too. ;-) Lewis will probably want to try it out! I hope all goes well for your hairdresser's husband's op after hobbling so long.

Are your Snowdrops in flower Mel? My few are looking good.

Mel Fairy Godmother

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 1 Feb 2025 20:04

I'm cming to dinner with you tomorrow Mandy as thats my favorite. YOu will be able to put all your ironing n the stair lift so it takes it upstairs for you and other thigns too I expect.

I have been watching you tube and got carried away with the parrots. They are so funny and reminded me of the one I had years ago, my Captain. He talked in my voice and my hubby's voice and my sons. He would say Hello when I answered the phone and many other things. He is buried up the top garden.

Must get something to eat as I had'nt realised what the time was. May do a salad as I have some nice ham and cottage cheese, cerlery and toms and I can just pick at it.

Evening all

I'm here Mel had a busy couple of days yesterday was hair cut day ,should have been next week but hairdressers husband has gone into hospital today to gave an op on his back poor chap has been hobbling for a year now since hurting his back and he's having new discs put in .
Today we had the stair lift put in ,lovely chap ,he explained everything so clearly and Colin had a couple of goes on it to get the hang of it

Vera it sound a nice resting place for your daughters partner and how nice that the helicopter went over just at that time .
Glad you got the electric back on ,did you ever find out what took it off .

Ann, I don't think I could drive a new car with the stop and start and the handbrake that comes on automatically, when I get in sons car there in front of you is all these lights and a camera showing you the back view of the car and then there's all the pipping when he reverses and it gets quicker the nearer he gets to whatever he's reversing up to ,then there's the six gears and cruise control lol

Anng well done sorting out the CD players leads ,it's so satisfying when you can do something like that ,you'll be able to play a few cd's now .

Mel are the girls laying better now and did you get the fence sorted out in the end .

Oh Gwyn I did look at the fat quarters but I already have so many in my stash I had to reluctantly pass them by but I did get four balls of wool :-D even though I have lots of those too :-D

It was an easy meal tonight Pizza and chips, we haven't had pizza for ages ,tomorrow we have a nice piece of topside from Jakes butchers .

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 1 Feb 2025 17:58

I must admit I felt proud of myself for getting the CD player sorted and I have enjoyed listening to Michael Ball and Jack Jones this afternoon. The first time I have actually listened to Jack Jones for over four years. Since T died I have just not been able to listen to ballad type music.
Strange the way loss affects us. When daughter’s late husband died she stopped reading. I have read a tremendous amount in the past four years but couldn’t listen to music.
Mel I would have to sit right near the player and concentrate to listen to books. I would rather read.

Ann although both daughter and som in laws cars have similar controls to yours, they are both automatics so a bit different. But the hand brake came as a bit of a shock to daughter. She is used to it now of course.

Mel Fairy Godmother Report 1 Feb 2025 17:18

What a good job you've made of getting the CD player down to the lounge. See you can do these things when you put your mind to it. Have you ever thought of having the talking book? I find they are great company having someone elses voice in the background.

Gwyn I now have two months supply of my heart pill as they have trouble getting it as its quite often out of stock. I shall order more when I have got through the first 28. We have to give 5 days notice for our scripts now, it used to be three days.

No Mandy again yet today.

BIL came and he has started clearing the apple tree in the orchard he has cut lots of the small twiggy branches off and put them over the side of the orchard where I can burn them up when I get a nice dry spell as the wood is so wet at the moment with all the rain we've had and it may need a bit more cutting up.

Annx what a lot to remember with oh's car but I am sure you will get there in the end as you're a clever girl. I would'nt know where to start with driving one of those I think I may have to give up driving if all cars are going to be like that, I'd nevedr remember the way to so these things. Did you both ahve a better night last night?

Vera you've done a lot of HW today and with oh helping its good he will do some hoovering and dusting even if you have to go round with the duster again thats not heavy work. The hoovering always hurts my back.

Sorry Gwyn and Annx, I somehow missed the last post from you both. Sending you a wave ~~~~~~~~~~

SuffolkVera Report 1 Feb 2025 16:25

I’m sorry you had such a bad night AnnG. I hope you sleep better tonight. Well done in sorting out your CD player, you should be pleased with yourself.

Annx, you are an experienced driver so I am sure you will be fine driving G’s car. I hope he is feeling a little better today. It doesn’t really matter whether Tramadol or Codeine are stronger. It’s what suits you and eases your pain that matters. They are both opioids, Codeine is natural and Tramadol is synthetic. They both come in different strengths. I know a little bit about it because I have looked into it in the past as I have had a strong co-codamol on prescription for 22 years. I am allowed to take 8 of my tablets a day (I never do) and that’s the equivalent of 20mg of morphine in a day. But, as I say, if your tablets suit you and ease your pain that’s all that really matters and here endeth the lecture.

We have had a h/w day. Having been away for a couple of days this week and having granddaughter and boyfriend coming for Monday and Tuesday I thought I had better get a bit organised. I’ve done some washing and all sorts of little jobs, cleaned the glass oven doors and the sinks in the utility and kitchen and generally sorted and tidied while OH has dusted and vacuumed through. He does a good job of vaccing but I am less impressed with the dusting. However I bite my tongue and keep quiet. At least he offers to help which is more than you can say for some partners.

It’s been another cold, grey day though it has stayed dry. We got up to 6 degrees but the temperature will apparently soon be dropping again. Fingers crossed for a good night’s sleep for all of us.

Annx Report 1 Feb 2025 15:45

You did well to carry all that AnnG. It always surprises me how heavy paper is. Well done sorting out moving your CD Player too. It's always a nice feeling when you have solved a problem! :-)

I got the car adjusted for me first before we set off Mel. I don't like that it has 'stop start' on it, so whenever you stop, so does the engine and you think you've stalled it. Dipping the clutch starts it again. Also, when you stop the handbrake comes on itself (usually!). If it doesn't there is a switch next to you that puts it on. You don't let the handbrake off yourself when starting off, you just accelerate gently against the resistance you feel and away it goes. You can switch the stop start off on the dashboard, but every time you switch the engine off, eg to pop in a shop, you have to remember to switch it off again when you get back in the car, as it reverts to it being on! The car's a bit high for me to get in, but much better for OH's neck and back. It doesn't have the acceleration of my coupe, so there is more gear changing, but the body is narrower so easier to get through gaps and to park in small spaces. I found it fine to drIve, it's just remembering about the handbrake and stopstart. I will drive it more over the coming week to get more used to it. I've intended for ages to drive it more to get used to it in case my car was off the road, but never got round to it.

Gwyn thank you for the info about your experience with the dentist etc and your blood thinners. I'll tell him. I think we should hear from the hospital on Monday and his appointment with the dentist is in about a fortnight, so plenty of time for him to stop the blood thinners beforehand if needs be. The dentist seemed to think it would be ok and said he could always put a stitch in as well.
