Hi Gwyn :-)

They indeed were married to each other. They were both Scotland born in 1857. Moving to Manchester circa 1902 - for work reasons by the looks. My Great Grandmother died in Manchester South - Didsbury. Which is where my fathers Mothers family also lived. On her death certificate it states married to - so this more than leads me to believe that Great Grandfather John was still with us during this period. I have reached 1943 in BMD's for death and the 1935 one still top of the pile.

Gwyn - I live overseas and do not have access to electoral lists. Is there a possible site/link that I may be able to access this information. Any further help greatly appreciated.

I'm looking in on this search a bit late, so don't know what you've covered.Please forgive me if you've already gone down this route...........

Can I presume that these great grandparents were married to each other?
If so, when did your great grandmother die, ...Was she a widow?
If she is listed as ....Wife of John Campbell, have you looked at the electoral lists for her given address to see when John is no lomnger listed there.?... He may have just moved, of course, but it might help limit the years of searching.

I have decided that breaking up the search for BMD details is the way to go. Thus far the 1935 entry is still on top of the pile. I have searched through to 1939 as of last night. I will keep going just in case he made it to really old bones. But as my father has said he cannot remember his grandfather I have a warm feeling that 1935 is the go. But before spending more dosh - I will trawl through more entries to see if anything more turns up.

And indeed mis transcription of the name Campbell by the dropping of the p has also been in my sights :-)

Remember to check for variant spellings of Campbell - the most common one is omitting the p

Good luck. I know how annoying it can be when you can't finish them off. I had my great gran alive in 1906 when she was 50 and started trawling through quarter by quarter. I spent a whole day and eventually found her death in 1949 aged 93!

How right you are. I also have struck upon this where one death age was 15 years out - I think my head is so foggy from looking that the obvious is actually in front of me.

I will go back over the death entries 'again' even into the 1940s - I will do this over the next few days. I think breaking up the search for the upteenth time may help. Will see what turns up for John. I will still focus on Manchester S and if the 1935 entry comes up on top of the pile then will become the next certificate to order - thank you so much for your thoughts - much appreciated.

Steve, dont forget the info is only as good as the informant knows. Last cert I sent for was 8 years out, and that was his daughter that registered it!

I have looked on Freebmd through Rootsweb & I tried to find him through Ancestry.com. Maybe I have looked so often I am missing something...but results for 1929 and after are very thin on the ground [especially freebmd]. I am at a complete loss as to where he could be??

Yesterday was g r e a t. I finally received by mail the correct details for my Great Grandmothers death. Which is just wonderful [Extra big thanks to the G.R.O. as the certificates arrived 3 days earlier than expected - my heart skipped a beat when I looked in my letterbox]

Unfortunately the accompanying certificate which I had equal high hopes for was incorrect. It was supposed to be the death details for my Great Grandfather. Right name - wrong person :-(

This has made me frustrated 'again' as I have tried and tried to pinpoint him and his death details - but with no luck sadly.

What I do know is that he was born in 1857 and he died in 1929 or after. Most logical place of death is Manchester [South?] or surrounding areas. His name was John Campbell.

Is there anyone out there in Genesreunited land who may be able to help me with locating his death details? John's death details will bring to a close a mighty long journey in BMD's for this part of my Campbell Clan - H E L P!
