Is there a way of finding out if two people are related without ordering birth certificates? My Great Great Grandmother Kate Cullum born 1885 had in her possession a birth certificate for Catherine Ling born 1866 in Suffolk. Nobody in our family knows why she would have had this. Closest link I have found is in the census records whereby the Cullum family lived a couple of houses down from a William Ling widow. This is in the 1891 census. Any suggestions would be greatly recieved. |

thanks for your suggestions. The birth certificate for Catherine Ling is in my possession. Her dad was William Ling her mother Elizabeth Smith. Catherine was born in Plomesgate.I have surmised that the only reason you would hold onto a birth certificate is if that person was a close relation. Kates maiden name is Cullum. If she is the daughter of Catherine it means Catherine was involved with Robert Cullum (Kate's dad) I am also assuming Catherine may have died when Kate was young which would explain why she became a Cullum. I just do not know how to find the link between Catherine Ling and Kate Cullum. |

Thanks for all the suggestions. Not sure Catherine lived up North as Kate Cullum I believe moved to Kent and spent the rest of her life there, however the surname cooper does ring a bell. Definately food for thought. Thankyou for your help. |
