GlitterBaby, Is correct. The marriage cert for Harry to confirm fathers details and the birth cert for the Harry in question would be the only way to progress,

The Harry D Peate in the census is Harry Douglas Peate not Harry Dewhirst Peate, and I am doubtful that the death of Harry D Peate is the Harry I am looking for.

This is pure speculation and need to be backed up with documentary evidence, As GlitterBaby has asked for.

I think James Dewhirst may have been named as his father on the marriage certificate as James seems to have married Annie when Harry was only about 2 years old so would think of James as his father (which he probably was but not married at the time to Annie).

I wish Diana would come back to the thread with some answers.

Could this be his death - if Peate was the name he was born with and Dewhirst was his stepfather's name he may have decided to just use Peate in later life (actually his father may have been James Dewhirst as Harry was given his surname as a middle name but I doubt that his father is named on the birth certificate):-

Two things are needed

First some more info from the marriage cert

Second for the poster to get the birth cert for Harry to confirm the names of his parents and then to compare the info already provided to see if any of it is correct.




At the moment feel I am wasting my time as the poster seems to have completely ignore the possible entries as Dewhirst which without the info from the marriage cert and birth cert surely can not be ruled out !!!!

Marriage certificate - Elizabeth Ann Webster (nee Turner) - her first husband Walter Webster was killed in action in France in 1916. She married Harry Dewhirst Peate in 1917 and gave birth to a daughter Edna (my grandmother) in the same year. The Harry D Peate in the census is Harry Douglas Peate not Harry Dewhirst Peate, and I am doubtful that the death of Harry D Peate is the Harry I am looking for. Harry Dewhirst Peate seems to be recorded in full at his birth but his middle name does not seem to appear anywhere elst. Thanks for your input.

I would have thought the Annie Peate who marries James Dewhirst in 1993 (after Harry's birth) is too much of a co-incidence not to be the right family.

It's the second family we have listed and not the first which is wrong.
