Hi,

I have 3 FHL film numbers which I think will shed some light on distant relatives. Anyone got any ideas on how I go about using them?

Thanks

Use the Family Search site

https://www.familysearch.org/search/hr/search

This will open at a page entitled Search Historical Records

Click on Film Number under heading "Restrict records by:"

Enter film number and click.

Using a test surname gave me a film number to try this out and showed 18 results (an unusual surname).

Using only the film number though and there were 82,483 results

Maybe someone else can help you more.

Do you have any other information to input to reduce results?

Do you have a Latter Day Saints Family History Centre near to you? I'm sure they would know where to find the films and how to order them for you to view at one of their centres.

Have a look here and put the town where you live in the search box and it should give you the nearest centre:-

You can go to https://www.familysearch.org/search/catalog/search to see what's actually on that film.

Then, armed with that film #, you can rent it for viewing at an LDS FHC as Kath outlined above.
