Hi there

One branch of my family tree seemed to be career criminals which I find very interesting. Does anybody know if Ireland and more specifically Northern Ireland police took photos of their prisoners from let’s say 1870-1970?? For drink and theft related offences. I believe I would have to go to public records office Northern Ireland for these , but it would be worth it f they had photos!!
Thanks very much in advance

John

Have you tried contacting the Records Office to ask?

I would doubt that records as recent as 1970 would be publicly available, in any case.

PRONI has an on-line, searchable catalogue, containing 1,000,000 records. You might find out if they hold what you are looking for, before travelling to Belfast.

Good luck!
