I wonder if anyone can help find the maiden name of the mother of Sarah.

Her father was Francis Morrison born in Lancashire 1806 and died in Oldham 1849.
Her mother I believe was Sarah maiden name unknown but I think she was born in Dublin about 1807 and died in Oldham 1859. Sarah the child was born in Lancashire 1841c and died in Oldham 1850. I don’t know where and when her parents married but the first child Esther was born in Lancashire 1825c
Many thanks

Have you found the family on any census? There is a possibility that her birth wasn't registered as it didn't become compulsory until the mid 1870's.

Bearing in mind the Oldham connection, is this relevant?

I don't see the death of any Sarah Morrison in Oldham in 1850.

There was one in Manchester, and one in Liverpool, but none in Oldham.

Thank you all for your replies. I haven’t had time to study them all as yet but will do so shortly.
Found the larceny conviction for Esther interesting as I knew nothing of this. I’ve tried to look in the records for the prison and there seems to be 3 available at Wigan, Liverpool and Lancaster but I haven’t the knowledge to look in them. Does anyone think there would be a newspaper report? As she lived in Oldham I suppose Wigan jail would be the nearest.
I only know she was born in Lancashire, married in Manchester and died in Oldham.
In 1841 she lived in Oldham and was included in the 1841 census. Don’t know what date the census was taken but she wasn’t in jail at the time.

+++DetEcTive+++ Report 27 Feb 2019 08:39

The 1841 census was supposed to reflect the night of 6 June 1841

There’s no obvious newspaper report listed on Findmypast although there could be one in a small local paper. You could contact Oldham local studies & Archives. They might request a search fee

Thank you for that. I’ve just sent an e mail to the archives at Oldham so I will see if they come up with anything.

PatW

PatW Report 28 Feb 2019 13:24

I have received an e mail from Oldham archives and this is their reply.

Unfortunately, the Oldham Chronicle and Oldham Standard newspapers only came into being in the mid 1850's, so we have not been able to search them. I did notice that underneath the entry for Esther Morrison in the England and Wales Criminal Registers that a Sarah Morrison aged 44 was charged with receiving stolen goods. She was also committed to 4 months imprisonment. Could she be Esher's mother?

Sarah was Esthers mother and maybe she was also jailed as she received the goods Esther stole.
