He might not have arrived in New York at that early date ............

immigrants from the UK also went to Boston, Philadelphia, or to Cnaada then across the land border.

Hi Rose

I though (according to ancestry) they had the NY/Ellis Island passenger & crew lists from 1820 - is that not correct?

I haven't checked FMP as I only have access to that when logged on at work.

Tree on FS gives marriage place as Duboque, Iowa, so this could be a mistranscription?

It's too early for passenger lists.

Flip

Flip Report 31 May 2019 21:31

According to the 1850, 1870 & 1880 census I think he was in Oregon with wife Mariette but he was just listed as John, no middle initial. Mariette born Missouri to English parents. The outgoing lists didn't start till much later, but there are a few possibles for John Skaife on ancestry but I don't have the world wide sub.

Someone else should be able to check though.

Julie Report 31 May 2019 21:11

Please can anyone advise on trying to find John H Skaife b Yorkshire 1822, married in Missouri, United States 1849, I have tried to find him on passenger list on GR but I am unable to find anything at all for that name.
Thanks Julie
