I am going to cross post this on more than one board.

If you register for a free account on the National Archives, in the current Covid times, you can download some records for free.

I have just downloaded for free, some records from Royal Naval Reserve Service Records Index, 1860-1955 for a relative, that would normally have cost £3.50.
