FamilyTreeMaker 2011

I am having a new desktop computer to replace my ancient one which wasn't new when I got it. My local friendly computer professional is transferring all my data onto the new one. There seems to be a problem though with FamilyTreeMaker and my tree. I can't find the original disc which it seems is needed. He has taken it away to see if he can solve the problem and I am waiting to hear from him, but it occurred to me that someone else may have had the same problem and could recommend a solution.

If I did a Gedcom (correct term?) to my email, would that transfer enough information to install elsewhere, and if so, where would you recommend?

Thank you Namelessone. Forgive my ignorance, but how would I do that - getting the information from the old computer into a new installation? My aging brain is having difficulty with the logistics!

I hope you did a backup beforte you did anything - to another hard drive maybe - I don't understand the cloud.

Can't really help as my FTM is 2012! Ther must be on line help.

Added: foiund this by googling:
whether you are using Family Tree Maker for the first time, or upgrading from a previous edition, FTM 2024 is a standalone program that does not require a previous version in order to be installed.

Thank you! I shall show this to my IT man - maybe it will make sense to him!
