I have recently obtained a Menu Card from a family wedding in 1913. Does anyone have any idea what a Spanish Sandwich is? Many thanks |

Hubby said it would be a ''Spanish chutney thingy'' (lol) Then I googled and found this: SPANISH SANDWICH SPREAD 6 green tomatoes 6 cucumbers 6 green peppers 6 red peppers 6 onions Grind and drain. Dissolve and bring to boil: 4 c. vinegar 4 c. sugar Add vegetables. Make a paste of: 1 c. sugar 1 c. mustard 1 c. flour 1 c. vinegar 1 Tbsp. turmeric 4 Tbsp. salt celery seed and pepper to taste Add to vegetables and vinegar mixture. Boil just long enough to cook flour. Seal in jars. Merry |

Have found a spanish website that says a Spanish sandwich is normally York Ham and cheese, served in white sliced bread. To be honest I think it was probably a very general term and would vary depending on region. |

eeeeh that sound disgusting. I think I'd prefer the Cress, Lobster or the Potted Beef & Cucumber sandwiches. Many thanks for that, perhaps I'll save the recipe for an auspicious family occasion! |

DON'T DO IT SALLY 111111111 That recipe won't work - anything that has those ingredients, cooked in that way, will be very 'slimey' in texture - ! tbsp of Tumeric will mean it will be VERY yellow, and 4 tablespoons of salt will be VERY salty and will also probably 'see you off' !! (Not too good for the kidneys you know!) Luckily, the food in Spain that I regularly partake of is a LOT more delicious !! Dea Xxx |
