I started another long trawl through my latest 'hot' matches only to find that amongst the usual helpful ones of same name born on different continent, I have a number of names that aren't even in my tree! I have sent a message to GR but wondered if anyone else had this problem? Sharon |

I really think they need to refine their computer program on the Hot matches to take into account the area that is added to the name. It seems only to hone into the name and nothing else. Wots the use of flagging a name as a poss match that was born say in scotland when your entry shows they were born Bethnal Green London |

This debate comes up each time Hot Matches are updated. The matching is currently by Name and Date only. That is the fact, whether or not it is helpful or otherwise. We would all like it to include a check on location, but this is not available yet. Perhaps in the future. |

received my hot matches today, the 3 i got were all rellies that I am are in contact with or have been in contact with. I suppose it works properly if you are connected and not if there is only a tenuous link of a same name but wrong area. Ann |

i had 5 pages of the blooming things, what a waste of time they are, my james white and george reynolds were born in England not Utah or Colarado! I think the tactics behind this confusion of names from all over the world is to keep you on the site for as long as possible watching the adverts !!!! |

I have just gone through the latest list and discarded them all. I have in the past suggested changes to the Hot Matches such as include geographical location, don't show matches to people you are already in contact with, don't show matches to people with unknown birth places, stop repeating the same matches time after time. Hot Matches while a good idea need refinement if they are ever to be usefull. Since they started mine have not got beyond the letter B, how many years will it take to get to the end of the alphabet? |

I have had a couple of these phantom matches today too, where the name is not and has never been in my tree. I will be very interested to see GR's reply to you about it. But on the plus side, today's crop for me, among all the Browns from around the world, included somebody who looks as if he may possibly be descended from my great-grandfather's brother. I'm eagerly waiting to hear back from him, as I have never managed to contact anybody from that branch of the family at all, although I've been a member of this site for ages. So Hot Matches do sometimes come up trumps! Kate. |
