Found him on the Durham Mining Museum Site. Click on Who's who on the left hand side then scroll down to F.I.M.E. Period 1896-1897, then click on Members. He is listed as Maddison WHF The Lindens Darlington. Dianne xx |

Yup, just had another look. He has half a dozen servants in 1901, and his father had servants on the 1881 too so it looks like the family had plenty of coin. I bet he owned the mine. Dianne xx |

Looby on the official 1901 census they have transcribed his occupation as Mining Engineer. On the 1891 census he is a Mining Engineer. Georgina. |

It looks to me like Mining Engineer. But it also says that he is an employer. Could he be a mine owner?? Dianne xx |

Would someone have a look at a 1901 image for me – can’t distinguish occupation. The name is William H F Maddison, born abt 1865, living Darlington Yorkshire – think it says marine engineer, but would appreciate some confirmation, of anyone’s other thoughts. Have the image if anyone would like it mailed – just let me have the addy. Many thanks Looby |
