Hi Have just googled the name Benery to see what came up and it appears it is a proper name and not a short form. Just one of those weird names that pops up. Just thought I would let you know and then you are not going round in circles trying to find out what it could be short for!

Anyway, she (presumably the younger one) is listed as Benery on the GRO marriage index entry in 1894, so I guess it was her 'official' name. Kate.

The Benery on the 1861 certainly looks like Benery; just having a look at 1881 now.... yes, it looks like Benery there too. But certainly that could have been a nickname or short for something. Kate.

Maybe Bernie (short for Bernadette), or Bridie? Both Irish names. Perhaps the enumerator misheard the name?

Could it be a mistranscription of Bernadette which is very much an Irish name
